You aren't the only one on here and two, you wouldn't have known about the poll if you hadn't come on here to see what had been posted.

It was clear we were going to leave AAC, so you were added to replace. You're welcome.

Our success in establishing ourselves as a solid P3 team will put our recruiting clearly on that level, and that will allow players on the upper G5 level we might have recruited to filter down to your level, raising you up.   You're welcome!

We were unofficially in the PAC with SDSU for a good year before it became public and even before that it was clear to Aresco we were aggressively tying to move up and might be successful.

PAC blew up. Bad luck.  Snuck in to ACC.  Good luck. Either way not a surprise to the AAC.

Also, again, attendance smack from UNT is insane. You have enough students to sell out our (and your) entire stadium, meanwhile we only have 6000 undergrads.  And yet we've had significantly higher attendance than you this season.

We’ve been underwhelming the last few years. Of course attendance is going to suffer. What’s SMU’s excuse? String of solid seasons, moving to the ACC, chance for 10 wins, and spot in the conference championship and yet maybe only 12K show up? Really screams P5 material.

I quickly learned, that fact facts do not matter to a certain faction over here. Only thing that matters, is hate on SMU and trash any program, that is proactive in changing their programs situation.

Speaking of proactive. Just read that SMU signed Rhett Lashley to an extension and pay raise. This also included, 7 million dollars for staff retention. Yeah, but let's continue to call them smut and douchebags, while we continue doing the same thing and expecting different results. They also flipped a 4 star running back from east Texas, that was committed to UCLA.

Our average has increased every year for at least 5+ years.  Unlike UNT, we don't have many hundreds of thousands of apathetic alumni sitting around DFW just not choosing to go, we have to build the fan base. 

2023 attendance averages:

UNT: 17,761

SMU: 22,616

But consider the relative alumni populations.  UNT has 324,000 alumni living in DFW.  SMU has 60,000.  

So take attendance by % of alumni living in DFW:

UNT: 5%

SMU: 38%

This doesn't even include students which would skew it even more.

Who has bad attendance?

Have to pony up and keep our DC.  Defense has been so critical this year, and we're going to have to really rely on it vs Tulane with Stone out.

1) I enjoy the Pony fans on this site. I hope they stay around.

2) It is 100% true that we will pick up a few players in the coming years that would have otherwise gone to SMU. That's just how it works. Conference affiliation matters. So does money.

3) If we were enjoying the success SMU is having the last couple of years, we outdraw them and it's not even close. They know it and we know it. If we are 10-2 in the AAC and they are 5-7 in the ACC we double or triple their attendance. If the Ponies are 10-2 in the ACC we still outdraw them. If you are a SMU fan and want to argue this...just don't. You know I'm right.

4) Both teams have fickle fans. Both fan bases expect a lot and have a multitude of entertainment options. That's just how it is in the big city. Exhibit A was how many fans failed to show for the game in Dallas this year. They just aren't going to spend time and money to watch that clown show of a defense we suffered through. 

5) Here we are, the fans that actually show up left to duke it out.

You still had to BUY your way into a conference.  When the ACC implodes and the SEC/Big10 break off, you will be back.

Every team that moves up has to buy their way in. We just had to pay a little bit more, but we're still getting good return for our money and we're still going to make more income in the ACC than AAC.

If it all blows up and we fall back down to the AAC, at least we tried, instead of huddling around an uncommitted admin firing the coach every 5 years pretending you'll get different results.
