It all comes down to money, if the PAC12 pay out is better then you could say its worth it.  However I have to wonder based on who is left and who could possibly join the PAC12, is the pay out going to be worth it?  Its safe to say, with out SC, CU, and UCLA the payout per school is not going to be close to $30 million... Will it even be half that?

If the 4 corners leave (which they will be) and when Oregon and Wash leave there will be no payout. That's the very root of the problem they are facing out there. There is nothing left that warrants any TV revenue.

I think you'll have a hard time convincing AAC schools to join a conference whose main media partner is streaming. The CUSA6 tried that and know how bad it is, and any of the other 8 who didn't learn from that lesson...good luck.

One thing missing from many of these conversations is the logic that there will be any logic used in these decisions. College football is an excellent example of how perception is sometimes greater than reality. A lot of SMU's notoriety is still from when they were a top-level program. Many people still remember the name SMU more so than what is taking place. It will be hard-pressed for schools currently in P5 to want to "drop down" even if the money goes away, just as certain schools currently in G5 would pretty much do anything to get into a conference with the legacy and name of the PAC.

Prediction surely to be wrong - At some point down the road would not be surprised to see several leave the PAC. They will pull from the MWC and the American. Then, the AAC and MWC merge.

Any PAC media deal will have to include clauses to account for new calculations based on conference additions and most importantly deletions of current members.

I think the money for the media deal for the PAC prior to this defection could indeed have been at about the 30 million range with a lot of streaming. Who knows for sure at this point. But even then it is also financially smart for CU to leave. The P12 deal needs to outright beat the B12 deal for them to have staying make sense.

What gets often not enough discussed is that the B12 pays out a good deal more (like 5 million) than P12 with similar tv money, because it does not have the same HQ and prior network disaster liabilities plus a good deal more NCAA tournament bball units.

For anyone making the jump another bit of caution is that it does not seem likely that P12 wants to let anyone join with anything even approaching full share. Hence SDSUs troubles. If the media deal is lower and instead in the lower 20 mil range half shares start being seriously problematic for teams that have to pony up 17-34 million exit fees in order to join a place that doesn't appear stable

Instead of P5, you could use A5 for the autonomy conferences which is spelled out in NCAA rules and not a media made up term
