ESPN- Mack Brown to Resign (to Coach Bowl)

All About UNT

Recommended Posts

Happens all the time, and at all levels of competition. Not long ago, Southern Miss and East Carolina ran off the most successful coaches they'd ever had.

Fans are easily spoiled.

Bama fans will be ready to run Saban off if his squad ever dares finish only 8-4 for a couple of seasons. OU, Stoops. Any of them. Clemson did it to Tommy Bowden...and, he'd never so much as had a losing season. Ever. With either Clemson or Tulane.

Georgia fans have been trying to run Mark Richt for years. Auburn pitched Tommy Tuberville...despite his 7-3 record in the Iron Bowl.

Jeff Tedford delivered some of the best football ever at Cal and got run. Joe Tiller took Purdue to their first Rose Bowl/Big Ten title since 1966, and was run off after crafting 10 winning seasons in 12 years.

There will be people on this board ready to pitch McCarney overboard next season if we don't qualify for a bowl.

I don't blame Georgia fans. They're the number 1 school in one of the top 5 high school football states in the country.

Every top school from the top 7 high school football states have won a national championship and made an appearance in at least two since the BCS era has begun except Georgia, which has had 0 appearances. Texas (UT), California (USC), Florida (Miami, Florida, and Florida State), Georgia (UGA), Louisiana (LSU), Ohio (Ohio State), and Alabama (Alabama and Auburn).

With those resources and that recruiting base you can't blame the fans for feeling like they have underachieved. Kind of the same deal with Texas. With those resources, that money, and that recruiting base they should be competing for a national championship and they haven't been close in 4 years.

He totally considered it lol. It's not hard to see that.

What's not hard to see is that he was perfectly happy in Alabama, let his agent float the UT rumor and then cashed in on the pay day. You'll notice that Saban never met with UT officials, not once.

The UT folks are now trying to spin this as "we didn't offer him a contract in time while we sorted out Mack Brown's future". What they're ignoring is that, if this were true, it's admitting that Mack Brown had the power to pick and choose when he came or went...not really in line with the whole "we're Texas, we can buy and/or buy out whomever we want" mythos.

Expect their consolation hire...whoever that is...to be on the hot seat in a few years when he doesn't sniff a national title.

That's not how they are spinning it. It's all about Mack not wanting Saban to take his job. Once it was leaked that it was possible if Mack staying then Saban signs his contract. Coincidence? I think not. It was basically within an hr that all goes down. Mack was threatening to air dirty laundry. Mack basically want two things. No Saban and to make Orangebloods look bad. He accomplished that. Saban was interested to the point he was contacting other coaches to gauge their interest in joining him at UT. It's completely hilarious that Mack was so powerful that he cost UT Saban. He kept UT from being a football monopoly all bc he thought he would have beat Bama in 09 with McCoy.

Makes our game against them the debut of the new coach.

So now with Saban out who do they hire? Gus Mahlzan?

I don't see him or Fisher walking into their Ad's offices and saying, "I'm not going to coach in the national title game."

And he should make tu and orangebloods look bad. It's trashy how they ran him out of town and how it was "leaked".
