  1. I get the sentiment, but what to do about all the incoming players?
  2. Yes proximity to an infectious person and breathing in the virus can make you catch it. Having sporting events with no or very limited spectators is a reasonable precaution. This is mostly transmitted through breathing it in, not as much from touching your face. Agreed on authorities (here and abroad) trying to strike the right balance in messaging to prepare people without causing a panic. Not an easy balance to achieve of course and once panic starts it’s probably more infectious than COVID-19.
  3. Mortality outside of China has shown to be fairly consistent so far. I wouldn’t bet against China obfuscating the truth, but genetic studies of the virus suggest this version is a natural mutation that occurred in October or November last year. China being a lying authoritarian regime probably didn’t help, but this disease appears to be pretty infectious so it’s also likely that wouldn’t have mattered much anyway. I highly recommend listening to the Joe Rogan podcast with Michael Osterholm.
  4. No science that I’m aware of yet to indicate that. Other Coronaviruses are NOT affected by heat (MERS, for example). It’s too early to tell about this particular virus, but we shouldn’t count on summer to help us.
  5. Meh, it’s a bit of both. Both extremes are silly. COVID-19 is much more lethal than the usual seasonal flu, but the ‘cancel everything so it looks like are are doing something’ is also silly. It looks like you mostly catch this disease from breathing, unless you’re planning on stopping that you are kind of hosed. We really can’t shut down everything everywhere for months or years until a vaccine is tested and ready. COVID-19 will likely get worse in terms of death totals. It’s scary because it’s so new, but it’s possible that this could end up killing less people than other causes o
  6. IN AZKABAN! Sorry, nerd joke just came out.
  7. Did you rescind ‘the board may panic’ directive? If so, does this tweet allow panic mode to be reengaged?
  8. How are you using Benford for this argument?! Wren let him coach out every game on his contract and then fed some BS line about how players can get in trouble after in season coaching changes...which was also total BS (felony charges). If anything Wren’s total inaction on Benford is evidence he will do nothing.
  9. Region 1 travel is quite often loooong distance, especially after the first round. Decatur might choose to feel fortunate for the long drives as that keeps them out of the murderers row of region 2...
  10. Are you and @El Paso Eagle throwing punches? If not then maybe you're just having a vehement disagreement...
  11. Boedeker was trash. Ben Baby moved up in the world (twice). Vito is really pretty good. High school coverage by Steve and Reece is good as well. I don’t think the DRC is selling only online subscriptions to UNT coverage so their total package is worth considering.
  12. Journalism’s long slow death is about 50/50 societal change/it’s own undoing.
  13. Meh, the quality of writing overall (specifically talking mostly about non-sports articles) has been declining at the DRC for some time now.
  14. It isn’t ‘holding’ when a blocker pins an opponent down. That’s a ‘syrup block’, as in putting the syrup on the pancake...
  15. Y’all leave Katie Hill alone. oops, not the politics forum. #sorrynotsorry
  16. Those of you wanting prompt action for gross incompetence should remember that UNT just doesn’t do that...
  17. My wife noticed a person named Tristan in an Instagram add for the new season of Married at First Sight looked quite familiar. In looking at his bio and the one pic on that site it sure looks like Mean Green great Tristan Thompson. In Lifetime’ Meet the grooms preview it sure seems to look like him. I’ll count on my wife to watch and tell me about it, but in case any of you and yours wanted to know...
  18. You must be just a horrible person to be around. Since you seem to lack the emotional maturity to have a productive discussion and are allowing your blind partisan hatred to drive your continued ad hominem attacks I see no benefit in continuing to address you.
  19. I intentionally turned that phrase since I was referring to the shared trait of speaking in an unpresidential manner, thus the use of 'lip' instead of 'hip'.
  20. Thank you for adding that to what might have been a civil and productive discussion. I'd really hate for everyone to miss out on some of the bitter partisanship.
  21. Obama had his share of shooting from the lip. With the current deeply divided partisan political climate we have I doubt we will see a correction anytime soon. Both parties are either somewhat or completely reluctant to correct bad actors in their own ranks. Impolitic statements are likely to continue in a climate where much worse transgressions are covered up or ignored.
  22. There's been a lot of unpresidential behavior during this and the last administration. Unfortunately, it appears that is likely to continue into the foreseeable future. Obama kicked open the door of under qualified candidates, Trump ran through it and I don't think our current climate will readily allow a return to the older state so we will probably keep seeing unpresidential behavior even after this administration.
  23. I was more of a MBB fan (and a very loud one) than anything else and over time slowly began to attend football games. We even kept our season tickets for the entire Benford era. I know me well enough to know that once I stopped going I was unlikely to return. I wasn't ready to give up on UNT sports so we kept going. Finally dumping RV kept me strung along for another basketball season. I couldn't stand the thought of Benford getting all five full seasons and I never thought anyone would be so dumb as to allow that to happen. Those awful decisions you cite in your last paragraph are s
