To add a word of encouragement, the guys that are out there are practicing their asses off. I continue to be very impressed with how Mr. Wallace moves. He explodes off the line and he's a couple of yards in before anyone slows him down.

The DE's are the most impressive group. They all FLY off the line. And most of the time they are step for step with Bergland (and some of the RB's) when they try to take it around end.

If there is a downfall to the McCarney regime, it will be because the defensive line cannot stop the run or rush opposing QBs with any consistency.

Alabama wins with an un-sexy offense. Ditto LSU. Their lines are outstanding.

The quarterback race is nothing. The games are won and lost in the trenches.

There is some upside, though...because most of the C-USA is not the old Sun Belt, the competition level really won't change as much as we thought it would. So, we've got that going for us.

I'm starting to expect that Wylie Reinhardt will be moved to defensive tackle shortly after arriving on campus this summer.

We were able to flip him from Texas State on the pitch that he'd play tight end here, rather than o-line. But he has a defensive player's mentality if you look at how nasty he is blocking on his film, plus he was athletic enough to play tight end.

A redshirt year would do wonders for him, but we might have to throw him in the fire immediately because of our depth, or lack thereof.

And we're hoping our one DT signee for 2013 qualifies but he double signed incase he doesn't which is never a good thing. If we lose Abbe or Boutwell in the fall we might be toast.

I don't know. How many?

You can play a fun numbers game. But, I'm not pretending that either Alabama or LSU (or Kansas State, for that matter) put everything in against us. The national powers go vanilla against schools they know can name their score against.

Besides, I know you're not saying you wouldn't trade Alabama or LSU's defensive line for ours. They wouldn't trade theirs for ours no matter what stats showed in our games against them.

Our defensive line is thin in depth and small. This coaching staff has signed three classes and none have improved our defensive line.. If schools still run at will and keep their quarterbacks upright, we'll have yet another losing season - no matter how vanilla Georgia goes against us.

Any idea what injuries he has suffered? He had a great game in the HS All-Star game he participated in, and then had his redshirt year last year. When, how and what did he injure?

We have had defensive line problems for a while. Since that problem was supposedly addressed, we have had 2 head coaches and 3 defensive coordinators. To hopefully rectify that problem, Dodge and or Deloach hired a new and supposedly seasoned defensive line coach who has served with the 2 head coaches (Dodge and Mac) and 3 defensive coordinators (Deloach, Bowen, and Skaldany) What might the common denominator be in the problem now? Hmmm.

Same dude that made us all scratch our heads when he moved our most productive DE, Eddrick Gilmore, to DT in his first year here?

Lost just about all confidence in that guy when he did that.

But, Nelson is Mac's guy. He ain't going anywhere.

Will this be an increasingly common occurrence going forward?

With the growing knowledge of long-term injury impact for football players, will guys be advised by their families to cut their college careers short (1) when the pros aren't in the future and (2) the family can afford to pay tuition themselves (especially if 2-3 yrs was already paid for)?

It seems a trend of this sort would certainly hit a program like ours more prominently where on field success has been hard to come by.
