Any Advice For The New Orleans Bowl ?

Visit the Acme Oyster Bar...great place. Lots of great places to enjoy a cold one or two or three or four. After having a few make certain your wallet is firmly secured...

Enjoy NO...it's a fun place for an evening or two...go have Beignets at Cafe DuMonde the next morning...fun and "traditional New Orleans"...got to go at least once.

Most of all...stay out of the New Orleans jails...not nice and don't throw an attitude at any of the New Orleans cops in the French Quarter. They have seen it all and heard it all before...you will not win that battle. Play nice and you'll have a great time!

Tell your head coach to tell the players that they are on a business trip to win a bowl game. Our coach back then approached the bowl as just a nice reward for a good season and there were far too many distractions prior to the game. That is why we only won one of the games, in my opinion. Fun after the game is the best policy.

I don't know about this. In the first game, we probably didn't belong there in the first place, but we squeaked in against a very good Colorado State team, who spanked us. The second game, we won. The thrid game, we lost to a very good Memphis team in a very good game--this one I could see maybe the distraction-thing happening. The last game, though, against Southern Miss was a complete mismatch, both in talent and coaching. That USM team was so much bigger and faster than us. We didn't lose that game because of too many distractions. Memphis, maybe, but the CSU and USM losses were butt-kickings by much better teams.

Any must-sees or must-do's or must-don'ts (especially restaurants to avoid) ?

Since you guys have been to the Bowl more than anyone, thought I'd ask those "in the know".

Thanks a bunch !

WWII museum is a must see. On Magazine Street, as I recall. Reserve half a day.

Acme Oysters is great. Also check out the Commander's Palace. Mother's Restaurant on Poydras is good for breakfast or lunch. Both available with a bloody mary while you wait in line. If you get a sandwich, get it with the "debris." Felix's is good after the game.

Wait MORE than 1/2 between hand grenades. Don't wander too far down Bourbon street or you might be a bit shocked!

For other activities, WWI Museum is great. Also right the street car from Downtown through the Garden District. There is a Harrah's that has separated my from my money on every visit.

You might consider stopping in Marie Laveau's House of Voo Doo (on Bourbon) and buying a curse on the So Miss team. Some of their folks will be buy a curse on your team, so it's just being defensive.

Get off Bourbon St. and take a cab to Frenchman St. That is where the real music lives. And if you see or hear of a place down on Frenchman that has the New Orleans Jazz Vipers playing STOP AND SEE THEM. Great great band.

Also, if you walk down Bourbon out of the bar district and into the gay neighborhood part you'll find the second oldest continually operating bar in North America. It is called Jean Lafitte's. It is in an old blacksmith shop. (BTW - it's not a gay bar if that is a concern.)

Once you leave Jean Lafitte's keep walking down Bourbon until you get to the Esplanade. Once there take a left and walk a few blocks. On your left you will see a small place called Port O' Call. GReat burger. (Trust me 3-4 days of cajun food will have you longing for a good burger.)

Also if you want breakfast at 4AM but you still want a pitcher of beer find your way to Trolly Stop Cafe. No clue where it is. We just poured our drunk asses into a cab and asked for Trolley Stop. Good bloody marys too with pickled green bean.

New Orleans Bowl Musts Part 1

Tours

See the French Quarter in the day (The National Parks Service on Decatur gives the best tour and its free)

Ghost tours are better than vampire tours, I like every company except Haunted History Tours

Carriage Ride (that includes a stop a cemetary)

Ride the Street Car (Its a $1.25)

Fine Dining

Muriels on Jackson Square, NOLA, K-Paul's (All the really nice restaurants have great lunch specials)

Best Fried Chicken

Coops and Frioellas both on Chartres (If you go to Willie Maes Scotch House take a cab)

Oysters

Fleix's across the street from Acme is just as good. Also check out the Oyster Crawl Tour on Fridays

Drinks

The Hurricane a Pat's O'breins is classic and you get to the keep the glass

The Monsoon at Port of Call on Esplanade is the best hurricane in town (and the strongest)

Drink a Hand Grenade from the Tropical Isle but don't make that the first drink of the night

(Don't let anyone in your group drink a red bull and vodka daiquiri)

And shop at my friends store, Walnut Street Gourmet Gallary at corner of Royal and Toulouse.

Oh and up on Canal next to Harrah's is the world trade center. At the top of it they have a revolving 360 degree bar that affords views of NOLA and on certain days of the week they offer $1 drafts. They should be finished remodeling by the time you get there.

The other reason we won the Cincy game was they only had a week to prepare and the school was already in BBall mode.

All the places everyone mentioned suck. Go to Razzoo Bar and Grill. Only place you need to be.

Then, after that, go F yourself. Go Southern Miss! (jk, not about the USM part tho)

Seriously?? Why wouldn't you root for the conference to be well represented???

Well, its been a few years since I've been, but Definitely visit the WWII Museum. I believe there is also a Civil War Museum in NOLA as well. Hand Grenades and Tropical Itch's are great drinks, but definitely wait between drinks. Go too far down Burboun St and you hit the Red Light District. However, if you want to hear some real Jazz, there used to be a small jazz club. I cant remember the name or the street, maybe someone on here knows the bar Im talking about. Its a few blocks into the Red Light District, then you turn left (north I think) and its near the church. If you are a military history fan, there is a store on Royal which sells actual antique weapons. Krystal's at Burboun and canal is good to soak up the alcohol erly in the morning, but be prepared for a wait. Oh, and as was stated, watch out for the prostitutes. Even if the LOOKED clean, you never know what they are, lol. Harrah's Casino is on Canal. I would recomend staying at a hotel on Canal near Burboun St or on Burboun St, you dont want to walk a long distance when you are drunk. LOL. You can walk to the Superdome, It can be a bit of a walk, but its not THAT bad. Its been a while since Ive been, but I loved visiting there, and Im sure you will too.
