The poor communication from the PAC on expansion: ceding the narrative to their enemies (Big12) and then finally responding with vague and deadlines that didn't exist creating expectations unnecessarily is bad enough, but the SDSU thing is beyond bizarre. How can this level of PR dysfunction exist in California, the home of vapid and endless PR?

You really want this PAC dysfunction to be your new home?   I understand the perceived promotion to "P5".  But the label is getting watered down by the year as more move-ups happen and more access to the CFP, eventually it will become P2 and G8.

Yes. It's still 8 figures of additional media income every year, it still comes with much more visibility in the media, better opponents that people have heard of and have credibility, this easier recruiting and better attendance, and associates SMU with some premier national universities. There are almost no downsides, despite having to deal with California idiots and dysfunction.

Plus, think about Cal fans showing up at SMU and realizing the Bush II presidential library is there!  Perfect.

So it appears that SDSU jumped the gun and may be a ship without a port. Would the BIG 12 consider them and if so who would they pair the Aztecs' with for admittance ?

Colorado is rumored to be seriously considering it.   The Big 12 would rather have PAC12 schools than another moveup in SDSU.  Anything that weakens the PAC12 elevates the Big12.

You guys may very well buy yourself in to the PAC but I took particular joy in seeing twitter posts from the Highland Park Hand Humpers loyal who actually believe you will stop playing in front of 15k crowds if the opponent is Cal and not East Carolina. I'm aware our attendance sucks for student body size, fair, but I'm not delusional enough to think switching to the PAC would change that.

The Big12 is not going to vote in a team that would lower their payout, and I don't think the networks are willing to take SDSU at a full share so no, I don't see it happening.

This whole Colorado thing is so silly. It's not happening for many reasons. Most of all logic.

Those two things are direct contradictions

The Big12, Pac12, and ACC are roughly on the same level now, but the Pac12 is on a slippery slope.

If the Big12 can purge from the Pac12, it wounds them further and knocks them down.   Less assets for the next round of media deals would be worse than this round.   

If the media deal now involves less exposure for the Pac12 on mainstream networks like ESPN, Fox, CBS, etc, it hurts their visibility to the rest of the country.   Out of sight, out of mind.

Seems like more then a few Pac12 schools are not happy with their potential payout from a new media deal, and if they dont get what they want then they will leave.  None of the media outlets are keen to even make a deal knowing these schools are on the verge of leaving.  They may have to end up using their own pac12 network and offer direct to consumer, however there are no guarantees on payouts.

Here is an article that relates to D2C, Direct to Consumer, media.   It will require subscriptions and doesn't sound like a winning answer to a lot of questions if this is the format they go with.....

I think we should be.  But if the main media partner ends up being Apple+, Colorado leaves, and/or we don’t Getinge one of the 3 best brands left in the league in Denton every year we shouldn’t.  Regularly getting 25k for PAC 12 matchups isn’t out of the question.  I still believe you can activate at least half of the 300k local alumni by competing with P5 teams and wining over 45% of the time against them.

I think a version of that using Sinclair to distribute and buy a few games for Stadium TV is the way to go if a streaming partner is not willing to “overpay” based on the rumored payout numbers released.  I believe  The next conference that figures out that over the air isn’t dead for live events will be able to grow their brand.  Until most larger TV screens are produced without digital receivers or pay TV over the air is developed broadcasting over the air is far from dead.

Not the first time it's been talked about. This tweet came out quite a few days ago.

Notice it says a more substantive framework will be presented on their media day, not that any kind of deal or even numbers/final numbers would be presented. There is no concrete info on a date and everyone is just guessing. So take the good and bad reports with a huge grain of salt, as most things out are best guesses.

Informal deadline according to who?  This speculation. There have been endless "informal deadlines" guessed at. Just guesses. No evidence to assume this deadline is any more real. PAC has a year before they must have a deal.  Time is getting short but nowhere near critical.
