Travel To A Football Game - Rice?

I am so glad that we can start planning for the spring football games!! It would be great to get a large UNT showing at the Rice game!!! The Exes UNT Alumni organization is interested in putting together another discounted trip to an away football game if it would serve the group well. As the trips have been in the past it would likely be a turnaround trip, minimal cost, bring your own tailgating necessities, won't include the game ticket unless you want us to arrange that, and be a lot of fun traveling in force with a group of great friends. We would get there in time to attend the tailgating that will be sponsored by the Athletic department and the Exes and return just after everyone loads up (or stay overnite if the votes are there). Of course this time we will allow a little more time for "on the field celebrations after the win!!!!!!!!!!!

Bus? @$70 RT ??

Commercial plane @$136 ??

Overnite stay ??

Help us decide what you want!!

We are only in the fact finding phase. Any interest in this non-binding post???? :DNo, I'm not a lawyer!!

See us here!! http://www.unt.onlinecommunity.com/

Rice would be fine, but many of us have friends and family in Houston or places you pass near going there and back. I had planned a full weekend with side trips in my own vehicle. Having said that, if a Rice trip is organized, I would participate.

Is a K-State trip feasible? That is the trip I would like to make in group travel with Mean Green fanatics. Probably won't crank up the car and drive to that one.

I'd be interested in a bus or plane trip down and back to Houston. The OU bus trip was fun. This would be a longer drive, perhaps 5+ hours from Denton?? Do we know yet the Rice game time? A night game would make getting back to Denton very, very late.

I would rather plan a group trip to Kansas. However, that's a long trip and would probably involve one overnight stay. According to google maps, the trip to Kansas State would be about 484 from my house (in Fort Worth on the North Side of Saginaw), so that's about 450 from Denton. The drive time is estimated to be approximately 7 hours.

Houston is 280 miles and 4 1/2 hours from my house.

My trip to Houston is planned as well since I have family there. But I may be interested in a trip to kstate.

Thats my theory as well Houston is close enough to drive and I've got places to stay so I know I'll make that game. I'm not sure if I'll make it to KState but a resonable package could make it happen.

A Rice trip would be fine with me UNLESS I am stuck on a bus with the same driver we had last year to the OU game and back. The guy was a disaster! I do not think he ever went over 45-50 mph and we were hit by a passing car towing a triler (not the drivers fault, but caused delay), had to stop to secure the baggage compartment door (driver's fault), etc. etc. I was absolutely WORN out after taking at least one to one and a half hours longer than it would have taken by car!

Being with the MEAN GREEN NATION was, however, a blast...so bring the next trip on!

THANKS TO THE EXES FOR GETTING THIS GOING! :clapping:

Now the ULM roadtrip is an interesting prospect! I personally have planned to lay up in Shreveport, ala the previous Louisiana Tech game. My plan is check in at hotel in Shreveport, drive to ULM for the game, then come back to Shreveport for a casino crawl. Return home is planned for Sunday p.m.

Now if the Exes could put something like THAT together, it could be a winner for a conference roadtrip and there would probably be lots of interest.

Thanks for all the responses and suggestions. I hope more suggestions and comments keep coming in. I have been reading and taking your suggestions. Now you know why we need your input. There is no "Oklahoma" trip and this year will be a bit more tricky. But, hopefully we have time to plan.

Anyone got any Houston hotel recommendations? We were thinking maybe the Renaissance.

GMG!

How much are you wanting to spend and what area of town are you wanting to stay in? I live down here and would be happy to give recommendations.

Several good choices depending on where you want to stay what you want to do and price. I would say in general I am a big fan of the Downtown Hilton. Especially with the new Park "Discovery Green" opening next to their location downtown. I had dinner at "The Grove" restaurant in the park over the weekend and thought it was very good with great views of Downtown and the park.

Discovery Green

Hilton Americas

Like the other Houstonians on here I am willing to help anyone who ask; just PM and tell me what you are looking for.

I am very excited to see my Mean Green coming to H-Town and hope this becomes a regular home and home series. I think we are going to have a great crowd.

There should be plenty of hotels around Rice University, which is near the medical district.

yeah and downtown Houston is a very short drive from Rice. As HoustonEagle alluded, it has become a destination unto itself over the past few years. Plenty to do with or without little ones.

I'll be planning some sort of party for the weekend. As time nears, I'll give some more info.

Unless things have changed...the area around Rice is none too swell as a place to stay if you want to do any thing else while in Houston. Houston, on a weekend, is not a bad place to drive around, so you could stay almost anywhere you would like...nice hotels in the Galleria area as well and great shopping and some nice places to eat...all shapes and sizes.
