Started 2nd series in 4 man front as well.

And as I type, Richards gets a sack from the outside.  Amazing what happens when he is freed up.

Staff is proven it can make adjustments. Something North Texas coaches have struggled with in the past.

Yup. And for the life of me I can't understand why. 

I also do not understand how Rogers was not EASILY named the starter. Pitiful talent evaluators.

While our 4-man front isn't perfect, it is better than our 3-man front. Both LA Tech TD's came against Caponi's 3-man front. That's not a coincidence.

What has happened is they have taken Mike LB and moved to just a Will and Sam backer. Think I would have moved a DB out and gone 4/3/4. But I’ve only coached at Middle school level.

Not sure we have 3 legit backers.  But I want more than 5 in the box.  We’ve seen some 4 man fronts, but then we’ll go light and have one backer within 5 yards.  I don’t know what we’re trying to do, but I’m not a coach.  Just get some numbers on obvious running downs.

A couple of observations (defensively)...

First thing I noticed last night.  Saw the 4 DL look, got happy.  It worked.  We got QB pressure(s) (and sack), contained the run (more often) and gave LaTech some problems.  There were other times we walked down the LB to create a 4-man look and reduced the DE/DT down inside.  This helped as well (but not as much as true 4 DLs).

I understand the need to be in multiple fronts and show different looks throughout the course of the game.  There are times when being in a 30 stack make sense.  HOWEVER, inside your own 10 is not one of those times.  The field is already compressed from a passing standpoint, get bigger/stronger upfront in these situations!

The best way to help your DBs in passing situations is a pass rush (this from a former DB)!

Prevent D (let them use up clock defense) only works if your come up and make the tackle!

Finally, we have to be smarter! Giving them 30 penalty yards (clock stopped) on a PI and facemask can't happen.

Caponi might be a "Thick Head" and refuse to totally give up on three man front cause his ego gets in the way....

Yea I know...but there's a time and place on occasion for the three man front.

Isn’t this exactly what Bennett’s D was?  4-2-5?  Hence, why Mazin was able to make an impact when in that look.

maybe just maybe (totally spitballing here) we only used the 4 man front occasionally due to only practicing it for a week.  Given the off week coming up and then playing an ACU team, followed by run-heavy Navy, we should get some great time to install a large playbook with the 4 man front.  

Of course, I may be completely wrong, and the stubbornness to stay in the 3 man front, come hell or high water, may still happen as well.
