Its not funny getting drilled in your own house and that guy wasn't having any of it.

Admittedly, I didn't see this incident, but you described him as "yelling at players" and I'm not sure there's ever an appropriate time for this.  I understand frustration but expressing that directly at an 18-21 year old who is working extremely hard to represent our university to the best of his ability doesn't feel productive.

He didn't make an ass out of himself.  In fact..only those around him even knew what was said.  We had to ask afterward.  

It was a strange...low key conversation.  But someone down on the field simply didn't like the message and he didn't cease from giving it and was asked to leave.  

Im guessing it reminded him of us getting our asses kicked by Portland State and seeing players act like it just another fun day in the sun last year?

I gotta admit, I've noticed this multiple times this year.  That is, players on the sideline obviously disengaged with what's going on on the field, joking with each other, pointing at things in the stands, etc. while their brethren are getting their butts handed to them on the field.  To my recollection, each time I noticed involved members of the QB depth chart.  Really annoys me, but so far not enough to shout at them.

Rick pointed the guy out to me while we were both in the gift shop and told me what happened. I went out of my way to go over and give him a "high five" and told him I was in total sympathy with him. His police escort just glared at me. Too bad.

In the real world you get fired for "goofing off" on the job. Especially when you're co-workers are working their a$$ of to have a successful outcome for the team. I learned that long before I was 18.

A better way to express your discontent is not to buy that extra hot dog, beer or etc and walk out with most of the 4th quarter left.   I have never expected the Mean Green to win all its home game or even be competitive in all of them. But Dam It for conference home games you need to be competitive enough in all of them that the outcome is in real doubt in the 4th quarter.  Anything less is TOTALLY unacceptable.  MTSU is a good program and we have several others in the conference.  But unless they are ranked in the top 25 their is no excuse for getting outclassed at home.

In my experience your co-workers usually handled it......usually with very disdainful and pointed remarks.  But eventually the boss caught on to what was happening and took action. No one snitched.

And if you'd like an example. If I had been one of the players standing on the sideline, intensely into the game action and yelling support to my team mates out on the field, and I had noticed some guys laughing and goofing around behind me I would have said (as loud as I could) "Hey! are we making too much noise over here? Would you like us to tone it down some so you can hear your silly-assed remarks to one another a little better?"

All I know some I saw players dancing and acting like asses last season while they were getting stomped. It was embarrassing to be a supporter of a team behaving like complete classless children. Mac let it continue too. And age had zero to do with it. Littrell needs to single out players behaving that way and put an end to it. 

These players need to act like men with class regardless of the scoreboard. They are representing the university, their families, the students, and us alumni.

This is a sign of a bigger issue, IMO.   The players in question are not behaving as part of a family and are not being good team mates.  These are principles that Coach Littrell preaches on and these players are not following.  If they were engaged with what was going on on the field and supporting their team mates, we wouldn't see this stuff.

A few things I saw that were frustrating....

1, Harrell watching our defense play near the end of the 3rd quarter. This made no sense to me. Our offense hadn't done squat since the opening drive. I thought our coordinator should have been working with the offensive players on making adjustments. I guess Harrell was watching the MT offense in hopes of getting some ideas.

2. I get tired of watching some of our DBs high five and celebrate on plays that they didn't make. When our DB has been burnt on a route and the receiver drops the ball, I see no reason for them to show out like they had something to do with it.

I had a pretty good view of this incidence...The guy in the stands was upset that one of the kids in a black shirt(transfer???) had a smile on his face while talking to other players on the sideline. I don't care how offended the fan was, I don't feel like he should have been yelling at the player on the sideline.  And when the security guard on the field, came over and asked him multiple times to stop...he should have done so.

So irritating seeing players dance to music playing over the PA. Even worse several did it while on the field.

You have no right to antagonize kids that don't even get paid, because they aren't sulking enough for your liking.  Its a game.  Its supposed to be fun, win or lose.   They are students who are playing football, not the other way around.  Why not let them enjoy it the way they want to?

What the heck.. only at North Texas would this happen..  I looked at her and laughed and proceeded to keep standing.  She told me I was going to be escorted out.  In the end nothing happened but seriously.......

I don't think fans should be antagonizing the student athletes, but don't let the pendulum swing too far in the other direction either.  A large segment of the team are being compensated with a free education.  It is the coaching staff's responsibility to teach these students to be good players and team mates, supporting each other.  I think the staff would strongly disagree with you when you say the game is supposed to be fun when you lose.

And speaking of expectations. Just when I thought that the Green Brigade couldn't have a more pathetic pre-game show.......the MTSU game set new standards of pathetic and underachieving. 

Meanwhile, the Band that claims to be the most exciting in America is getting their fans ready for the game....

Oh to have a REAL FOOTBALL BAND.

 

They know how to march to the stadium too......

when sitting in the stands it is important to remember you aren't the kid's daddy, you aren't his coach, you aren't his teacher, you aren't his boss. You have zero responsibility or right to provide lessons on smiling, the appropriate amount of fun to have in life, the appropriate amount of chuckles, or when to dance or celebrate

I believe it is possible to win and have fun. And lose and have fun (a necessarily less amount than the winning combo).
