When you must invest $8 million or so in a baseball venue it is a money pit, as you will never break even on operating costs, such as coaches, travel expenses, equipment, scholarships, etc. I am opposed to the addition of this sport, but realize it was a condition of entry into CUSA. Nobody really gives a shit about women's basketball. Men's basketball and football are the only revenue sports that actually can make money. Everything else is money out.

Lets see, I like wbb as well as some of the non-revenue sports.   As far as money, are you kidding?  I guarantee you that if you really measured it, football would be by far the biggest money loser  with men's bb a distance second.   Just subtract the athletic fees generated by students who don't go to games and other institutional resources donated to football and look at the millions lost.

Yes, but the only reason Villarreal introduced tailgating was so that the riff raff would stay out in the parking lot long enough for the magnificent 17 to enter the stadium without having to interact with us low lives.

Yes, the whole thing was designed so no interaction with low lifes would exist.  The suites are designed so that even to see the low lifes, you have to press your face up against the glass to look down and see them.

The only problem is, some of us love to tailgate, so alas, we must interact after all,  thanks a lot r.v.

I'm planning on making the game tonight to say my goodbyes. I'm just now coming off a wicked case of the flu, so if I were to shake hands with him would that potentially speed up or slow down the process? ?

It would give (yet another) excuse to tell the fans...

If it worked as planned, we would probably end up winning a few tourney games and save his job for sure.

“It’s huge,” UNT coach Tony Benford said of today’s game. “I would like to go out on a winning note in our last home game.”

If only it were true. Freaudian slip, Tony? Regretfully, the forecast says #hit20 and #1moyr.

Pretty sure the "go out on" is the season.

But we can all dream that UNT will finally fire someone that should have been gone 3 years ago.

Will it happen after today's game? Or will Benfird coach through the tournament? Or will Benford coach through next year?

We should know something immediately after a tournament loss, right?

Right?

But you don't care, right?  You have a real odd way of showing how much you don't care.

You should start a twitter account and send out more regular updates on this situation.  Inquiring minds will want to keep up with the latest updates and it would be easier than checking this website.

Is there a fake RV twitter?

So does RV start work on the extension for Benford on the plane back today or does he wait until the weekend? We all know that RV is banking on Benford breaking through in year 6 like JJ did. The sad thing is that RV thinks that next years talent will overshadow Benford's coaching inabilities. Didn't work so well in year one though. Oh well. The band plays on.

And makes up an ever increasing percentage of the 'butts in seats'.

I really admire their spirit though, even with all of the losing these last 4 years they still bring it every game.

Update on RV and the revenue hires he's made in the last 10 years. If men or women can't seriously turn things around quick, we're looking at 1 winning season out of 21 for this crop. And, you know, 145 games under .500.

WBB:

- 25-67 Stephens (2008-2011)

- 15-16 Aston (2011-2012)

- 28-61 Peterson (2012-2015)

- 8-13 Jalie Mitchell (2015-2016)

76-157 total

MBB:

- 12-20 Benford (2012-2013)

- 16-16 Benford (2013-2014)

- 14-17 Benford (2014-2015)

- 9-15 Benford

51-68 total

Football:

- 6-37 Dodge (2007-2010)

- 22-32 Mccarney (2011-2015)

28-69 total

*31-78 total including Canales

Combined Total:

155-294

*158-303 including Canales

145 games under .500

With another season in the books, here's where RV's revenue hires of the past decade stand heading into the 2016-2017 school year.

WBB:

- 25-67 Stephens (2008-2011)

- 15-16 Aston (2011-2012)

Combined Total:

161-305

*164-314 including Canales

150 games under .500, 1 winning season out of 21 for those coaches, and the first 10-loss football season and 20-loss basketball season in the same school year in university history.

“What we need now is for folks to come out and be a part of what we do,” Villarreal said. “It’s fair to say that we provided the facilities and atmosphere that people wanted. We have the kind of coaches who can do what we need to do. Dan proved that a year ago. We need people to come out, fill the stands and help move the program forward.” - RV during coaches caravan

Well, there will either be a firing or a vote of confidence within the next 48 hours.

The Benford firing watch is in full effect. Let's hope it turns into a warning.

In fairness, Johnny was extended twice by RV.   Those should "technically" count as hires, right?
