New 2015 Mean Green Offense!!!

I truly believe this is the offense we are going to run this year! Will there be runs sure, tire the defense down with tempo then smash it down their throat. Get those big Iowa and Tennessee DL running and running then you can sprinkle some runs in. I love this concept and by reading this article it sure seems like all signs point to, you guessed it TEMPO BABY!!! We will our same stuff, we have added quick game for tempos, I would guess early on 3-4 run plays 3-4 pass plays then as the game goes on tempo stays high, but you'll see more power runs with PA off them for your "shot play" don't believe me... Here check this link.

The article is encouraging. We have vaguely heard about offensive changes here and there in the past, but never have I read an article this in depth about it. Nor have I read or heard Canales slightly push a little of the offensive blame onto Mccarney like in this write up. This actually does sound like real change.

“You have to change as a coach and you have to change offensive philosophy and what we want to do. It was getting Coach Mac to understand what we’re trying to do, and he loves it. He just absolutely loves it. He loves all the plays and the tempo.”

Maybe Chico has finally shone the light through Mac's dark wall of stodgy yesteryear offenses.

With Canales being relatively close to getting fired last year I think since last season ended he put his foot down and basically said "if I'm getting fired then I'm going down with my offense, my plays, and my players."

An up-tempo offense had been talked about plenty in the past, but had never really been implemented the way we were expecting. It just looked like the same thing. Put a tall, prototypical pocket passer behind center, line up with two tight ends and a fullback, pound the ball and run play action. Anyone looking at Canales' body of work could tell that wasn't what he wanted to do. Since the end of last year he went out and got a dual-threat QB who isn't that tall but will not have to be throwing from under center as much, and has gone full-on into this type of offense.

Canales is coaching for his job, so if we're running a bunch of power from under center then it'll be because that's what he wants to do. Not just what Coach Mccarney wants to do.

I am happy they are talking up tempo. Now, I am concerned if they thought the spring game was up tempo. Because, it was not. If the offense will truly be up tempo, I am a happy man. Throw it and run it down their throats, while they are catching their breath.

The spring game is a generic dog and pony show for the fans. It shows nothing useful for our opponents to use. That's why I go to the spring practices and pre-spring game scrimmages. That's where you see what (and who) they're really developing. And the fall practices are where it really comes together. Hench the scrimmages being held inside the stadium and only the select few allowed to attend.

What I saw in the spring was not just more speed being put out on the field, but players, especially RB's, who were quicker off the start. They were also more "one-cut-and-go" in their running style.

When you look at the roster, you see seven RB's who are all fast and quick.....especially Mr. Porter (#34). And IMHO, they could all be starters if any of the others go down......that's depth. You have to go to our FB's to find a Byrd/Pegram style runner.

Early prediction. If Tre Johnson has been brought in to be our return specialist and he's the real deal in that role, then you'll see him running those wr-arounds that Brelan was good at running. Just from his films, he looks like Mr. YAC. And Mr. Porter could be the other one in that role.

Tempo is all well and good if you can still slow down and run the ball to salt away games when the situation calls for it.  Just going fast can create a whole host of other problems if you're not careful.

you have to have depth if you are going up tempo.  And you will need depth on offense and defense.  An up tempo offense may have helped our offense output last year, but our defense would have went from bad to horrible.

Is this based on anything other than speculation? Did coach Mac or RV come out and say this? I don't recall.

I don't see what he would've been fired for. Running an offense mandated by the head coach with a quarterback he would've never recruited in the first place?

“Everything around you is going fast, but everything has to move slower for the quarterbacks, and that’s what I’m trying to get them to do.”

As I understand things, that was what was supposed to happen for Greer last year, resulting in the happy feet dance behind the line.

Can you teach speed?

I absolutely love Up tempo offense but if you dont execute the plays you run then it will be a very short Up tempo game.

Yeah if you are not getting first downs the defensive coordinator is going to hate you?

every negative comment you guys are throwing out there was a reality not very long ago.

They will. Why would they be practicing tempo, short throws in the fall if they aren't doing it? Come on don't stay negative just to stay negative.

Canales said they have been doing this since Thompson's senior season.

I hooe you are right, but this is the same thing they said before last season. I'll take it as nothing but coach speak until I see evidence of it against SMU.

@UNT90 how about you and I put a friendly wager on it?? I'll buy you a 12 pack of your beverage for a pre game tailgate. It'll have to be yours bc I have no tailgate, you lose you bring me to your tailgate and you have to come back to this thread and recant your statement.
