OU WR Cody Barrow to transfer to UNT

I'd think that this coming year would not be very productive for a walk-on wide receiver at UNT.

Yeah, I guess it just depends on how hard he wants to work. We've had some very nice walkon receivers over the past few seasons. One of which is graduating this year as an Honorable Mention all-conference guy, another, an honorable mention all-American.

Our key walk-on advantage over the privates (SMU and to a lessor extent TCU) is the reasonable cost of the education at UNT. It's really hard to walk on to a place that is charging 50K plus a year in tuition when you have no assurances that you will be extended a ship. Mac has embraced this "you help us and we'll reward you" philosophy and he now has tangible evidence to share with prospective walk-ons transfers etc... The lure of being at a "Big Time" program is strong but, when you get there and you aren't playing it can become a miserable experience. Good athletes want to compete -- they want a fair chance to play. Take for instance the stockpiling of defensive linemen at places like OU etc... there is no way that all of those guys will see the field. We should be pointing that out and in turn offering them a good education, environment, facilities and a realistic chance to get on the field.

You would have thought that in 2007 after Todd Dodge brought in what seemed like an entire class full of top WRs. . . . And the star ended up being a walk-on already on the roster but buried on the depth chart.

Tried to look information on Cody Barrow but was not able to bring up any HS information or other offers. Can someone provide this info? Thanks

Answer was provided above - he walked-on at OU. No offers. All high school highlight are him playing LB and on special teams: http://www.ncsasports.org/football-recruiting/tx/allen/allen-high-school/cody-barrow

Doesn't tackle runners head on or stop them; they all fall forward.

Not sure why OU would list him as an WR...unless they just needed more WRs on their scout team.

Part of the lure of extra DL's (especially DE's) at places like OU or NU is the possibility to compete in wrestling without getting a precious wrestling scholarship. I worked with a guy here at the bank that played sparingly as a backup DE at OU in the mid-2000's (yes, he played in the infamous 1st Dodge game). It was a way for him to compete in a top-level NCAA wrestling program despite not being on a wrestling scholarship.
