Huge just huge - great job Coach Gandy! Welcome aboard John!

ICC's Weber honored by the MACJC (9/15/2008)

Itawamba Community College defensive end John Weber was named the defensive player of the week by the MACJC today (Monday) after his performance last Thursday night in the Indians 12-9 victory over rival, Northeast. The sophomore from Harvey, La. had 8.5 tackles overall, including two and a half sacks and two tackles for a loss.

"John had a heck of a game for us against Northeast," said ICC head coach Jeff Terrill, whose program has now captured 25 wins in the last 32 regular season games. "He is a really fine defensive end for us and would get more headlines if we didn't have an all-American (Pernell McPhee) at the other defensive end position."

Kenny Jackson is the defensive line coach at Itawamba and he agrees with his head coach's assessment on Weber.

"We all know Pernell is such a great athlete, but to be honest with you, John is actually more consistent than Pernell," said Jackson, who was a standout on the defensive line at Ole Miss before playing some for the Detroit Lions in the NFL. "He's a guy that will be definitely playing at a solid (NCAA) d'1 program next year."

Jackson added that most of the schools in Conference USA and the Sun Belt have shown a great deal of interest in the 6'3, 275 pound former all-state performer in high school, with Kentucky, the only school in the SEC that's recruiting him, as of now.

"I think we'll see John add 10 more pounds and at 285, he'll be playing defensive tackle for one of those division one schools next year at this time," said the fifth year assistant coach at ICC.

ICC will battle Northwest in a first place showdown in the north this Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. in Senatobia. You can listen to the game beginning at 6:10 p.m. on fm95 (95.7) and also on www.iccms.edu and www.fm95radio.com.

Excellent pick-up...Man, this class is looking better and better...Coach Dodge and his team are doing waht looks like a great job, and this class should be ranked pretty high in the SBC. Looks like some immediate help is on the way in some spots that needed some of that help. Nice...very nice.

I continue to say and believe...good things are happening at UNT these days.
