What is a issue is there is NO support from BOR or administration for a competitive student athletic fee. The city of Denton is the other part of the problem. Ever consider why we draw 30K+ in Dallas and average 13K in Denton. Artsy fartsey Denton needs to attend to its jazz and pot heads before it can be bothered by somethings as mundane as a football team that can bring true recognition as well as bring Denton into this decade!

Hmm, I'd say that's more of an alumni issue. 200k plus alumni in the region...

Of course there's another possibility, mismanagement by the AD...

Really? I thought 35 years of terrible football had something to do with that!

Why increase the student fee when there is zero commitment by the university to be competitive in athletics?

How about the university decide to actually make a commitment before charging the students more for a valueless product?

Rick Villarreal still sitting in the AD chair and Tony Benford coaching men's basketball shows that this university could give a crap about competitive athletics, so don't up the fee when you aren't willing to do the other things necessary to win.

Because it won't fix a broken UNT administrative culture.

Why should the students subsidize over 50% of the program?

It's on the department to do better and bring in more money. Either through donations, membership, fundraising, etc.

Lets raise the students fees only if regular and season tickets for football and basketball are raised a similar amount.  If we're going to raise the department's income, all should shoulder the burden.

why are you here?

Cougar Queen is here because she is the worst kind of poster. She trolls sites to see where she can question and scoreboard programs that suck compared to hers, having been banned on several of them.

She comes here because she thinks its cool to brag about UH's progress compared to our on the football field. Its basically the equivalent of scoreboarding a homeless person because you live in an apartment. She probably does this because the folks in the homes and mansions she used to live in twenty years ago don't want her around.

1. Excess Supply
If the price is set too high, excess supply will be created within the economy and there will be allocative inefficiency.

At price P1 the quantity of goods that the producers wish to supply is indicated by Q2. At P1, however, the quantity that the consumers want to consume is at Q1, a quantity much less than Q2. Because Q2 is greater than Q1, too much is being produced and too little is being consumed. The suppliers are trying to produce more goods, which they hope to sell to increase profits, but those consuming the goods will find the product less attractive and purchase less because the price is too high.

I post the above just in case you were hung over one morning and missed this lecture.

I wouldn't say 35 straight years. There were a couple good years in there. It's really management issues.

The reason we consistently suck is because the people in charge aren't good at their jobs. Therefore, we keep losing. If UNT won people would enjoy watching games. No one wants to watch there school get annihilated. I stopped going last season.

Expecting students to pay more while the alumni do not do the same isn't exactly "fair" to the group with the least amount of disposable income.

Also, since Apogee only holds about 30,00 people the supply line is actually static unless more seats are added at some point in time. I guess we could artificially reduce supply by not selling tickets to the Wingzone as end-zone seats tend to be viewed as the least desirable.

The key comes down to shifting the Demand line to justify increasing the price.  I hear winning helps but that's just speculation on my part.

I would say that the BOR and administration are supporting this thing better than any point in history. So much so that they have agreed to write larger checks instead of hiking the student fee. We are in the top half of budgets and do not field the same number of teams as some ahead of us.

We are in a pretty decent situation financially and still have some room with regards to the student fee.

We are not far apart in our thinking. Yes, the supply curve is fixed...Pit and Apogee. To increase revenue you have to move the demand curve.  If you increase ticket prices, you will have less demand (even fewer butts in seats) UNLESS you put winning teams and quality opponents on the court/field. In that event, the demand curve will move toward the supply curve and you could start to implement modest price increases as the best sections start selling out on a regular basis. Overall, you could then expect more revenue. The student fee is a different animal (not that I think the kids should suffer) because they all participate, like it or not. At least, they are entitled to attend all events for that fee.  They should be getting Rudy's Barbecue for that fee but they're being slipped a shit sandwich.

Remember that half of the student athletic fee is tied to paying for Apogee.  NT's failure to find major stadium donors will cost this program for decades as available funds are soaked up for Apogee debt service.

Athletic events are far from free for NT students.  I can't believe anyone would advocate more fees for athletics from the students.

You must admire La. Tech. They, along with So. Miss. and Marshall, sure get a bang for their buck, as does ULL.

Effective leadership by AD and university leadership. Remember when USM hired a coach that everyone knew was a complete disaster several games into his first season? What did USM do? They fired him at the end of year one.

Same situation at UNT and what does UNT do? Let him coach out a 5 year contract.

Some are doers, some aren't.

UNT isn't.

That's like handing out 2 slices of bread per day instead of one to a homeless child.

And will your other account agree with you?

Riiight. And UH doesn't have its own issues with fanbase and alumni support?

Well, we already have almost 20k season tickets sold and it's not even May yet and our opening game in NRG (aka Reliant) has already sold almost 60k tickets. We're doing just fine and growing quite a bit. However, this topic has nothing to do with UH, so stay on topic please and don't derail the thread.

And you have nothing to do with UNT, so stay at UH and don't come on here.  Oh, wait, your own don't want you either, do they?
