That prediction was made in June though from what I can see. That and ND hasnt offered him a scholarship yet

true. Just went back and looked. Great get if we were to get him, but does he fit the mold of Littrell's offense? Have we made contact or offered?

Thats the golden question right there..but at this point we just need to find a QB that can complete a pass on a consistent basis. That and just get more QB's in here that can compete and watch the Cream rise the top. This kid has a great arm and throws well on the run so I say if we can pick him up, lets grab him. He's to good and to close to home to let him slip away a 2nd time

They have the Rosen One. That would be a dumb move on his part unless he plans on committing to a redshirt and not playing until he was a redshirt junior. However, can't beat the location, weather, or education that UCLA has to offer.

The NFL will be drooling to get their hands on Rosen as soon as he's done with his junior year.  Unless things go terribly wrong the next two years, he's a sure top 10 pick, if not a runaway #1.  Starkel could potentially redshirt next year, backup Rosen his RS freshman year, and be ready to start his sophomore season.  There are worse QBs to backup and learn from.

That said, I have no idea what the competition is behind Rosen.

If he goes to UCLA:

2016 - Starkel redshirts, Rosen plays as sophomore

2017 - Starkel is a RS FR, Rosen plays as a junior and declares for the draft after

2018 - Starkel can start as a RS Soph and be a 3-year starter

If he goes to UCLA and doesn't play, it won't be because he can't beat out Rosen. It would be because he couldn't beat out the guys after Rosen.

Very true. The Pac-12 has a tendency to hang out to their QB's throughout the college careers for whatever reason. In the even that this does happen he could be the starter as a RS sophomore. Emphasis on the on the word could. They will land 2-3 more HS quarterbacks after Starkel. There are probably 2 or 3 more QB's behind Rosen right now. So it's not going to be a cake walk into a starting role there. But it is UCLA, it is a World class education, it is in southern Cal, so there is not much not to like. Unless he has a lot of confidence in his talent he should look elsewhere if he is serious about being playing college football or serious about watching other people play college football.

He seems like the anti-Aikman.  Troy was a quarterback who could fire a bullet on short and intermediate routes but his deep passes were generally flat, lacking ideal arch.  This kid doesn't have a strong arm to fire the Bang 8 route in tight coverage but does have a strong arm to throw down field with a very high arch.  He seems very accurate on all his passes and does a great job of dropping the ball over the shoulder and into the hands of his receivers on those deep routes.

Kid's arm is strong enough on intermediate throws for Trent Dilfer to say he throws the seam ball like an NFL QB during Elite 11.

He definitely has a strong arm.  He throws a great deep ball with plenty of touch.  But when you watch his highlights you never seen him set back and fire down field 20 yards to a receiver between the hash.  In his highlights, when he does through intermediate it's a touch pass that is very accurate and catchable.  He doesn't through those laser beams that Aikman did while his deep balls have terrific touch.   That's just going by the few minutes of highlights.

Not gonna say he's Troy Aikman but am gonna say I've seen him make that throw plenty and when Elite 11's lead evaluator says he makes that throw like an NFL QB (actually he said better than most NFL QB) that should clear up whether or not he has the ability to rip that throw in there.

The chance to get Starkel is slim to none, but the only chance may be to offer Lee ASAP...only if the staff sees him as an offerable player.

How about a compromise he can be a preferred walk-on :) then everyone is happy and their teammates and Nick is throwing BB's all over the field.  I will agree that he has a cannon just chooses to not use it all the time.
