  4. Free throws killed us down the stretch against UAB and if this doesn't improve soon it will kill us in post season play. You can get away with it against lesser competition but come March, not so much. I don't know how realistic it is to expect this to change this late in the season. That's just who we are at the charity stripe right now.

  5. My pleasure and you are all very welcome. I was wondering if GMG would be against me posting the link, but if that's allowed I'd be glad to drop a link for any future games when I can.

  6. need to finish this thing off and win by 30+, a win by only 20 will probably drop us a seed line 😉

  7. College GameDay just now said "UAB could make a North Texas type of run" as they talked about teams on the bubble. As much as I like hearing UNT mentioned on the GameDay type programs, that's not what I was hoping for.

  8. hmm. This post leaves me unsure that I understand the word "purged" correctly.

  9. My God McCasland is special. I have been a UNT fan since '86. I have never seen a tactician like him in any of UNT's major sports. Rice didn't have a prayer against NT in either game, because of Grant's defense. If and when Grant is purged by a bigger program, Ross Hodge needs to be the HC (unless he gets purged). We need to keep this system going from within. Hodge has been with Grant for many years, knows the system and has seen the results here. The blueprint for winning here has been set.

  10. If we had shot the same FT % as UAB in that game, it would only make the difference of 2.2 points. I think the reason we lost is our defense wasn’t as good in that game. In most of the games we lost, Buffalo, Kansas, UAB, Miami - we have up 69 points or more. We aren’t good enough offensively to win those kind of scoring games against good teams. We need to keep teams to low 60’s or lower to have a good chance to win.

  11. Good for them. The SBC is a much better landing place for all three of them.

  12. I like McCasland's style and think the NCAA should limit play to 6 deep total (starting 5 + 1). Not sure why this isn't be considered. More scholarships towards baseball and women (for Tidal Nyne).

  15. Another win for North Texas Basketball. Ten wins in a row and a dominate lead in CUSA West. The time has come for NT Basketball to be the lead topic on GOMEANGREEN.com. You know it, I know it, even Vegetable Lasagne knows it. Moderators, the fans demand it. Basketball at the top spot on GMG.

  16. Both UAB and UNT have made the bubble watch. Obviously both need to win out and make a deep run in the CUSA tournament, but a 2 bid conference seems a little bit more plausible. Both listed as work to do. https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/insider/story/_/id/33209419/ncaa-tournament-2022-bubble-watch-brace-month-march-madness-bracket-selection-drama

  19. North Texas likely to finish the day as the top defensive scoring team in the NCAA. Baylor shelacked Texas down in Waco 80-63.

  23. Well, they avoid ranking quad wins when you played them because what if a team is massively overvalued in a December OOC and then they go .500 in their league. It goes to show they weren't REALLY a Quad 1 team.

  25. How about rating the losses? UAB has five (5) losses against teams that average a NET of 127. NT has four (4) losses against teams that average a NET of 59.

  26. Oh what OU & UT Hath wrought. I’m trying to sort that & NIL out. What will be funny is when a particular G5 school “out-NIL’s” many of the P5 Big Boys & then wants to join their conference. Politics at every level stinks, but that will never change I’m sure. •••Anyone remember Denton’s Tom & Jo’s Diner? They had a great hamburger, club sandwich & BLT.

  29. In the postgame interview Mac basically said that Hodge is responsible for the defensive success. In fact he said “Ross Hodge is the best defensive coach in the country.”

  30. Do we think Grant is interested in captaining the ship to the American? I mean it has to be pretty interesting carrot right? In my mind it means he would have to be leaving for a P5 situation. I think it does help us that his style and his recruiting are far from flashy. We do, however, owe this program an uptick in support. That would be the main strike against staying at UNT right? Playing in front of some great crowds.

  38. Completely depends on who wins their conference tourneys. With automatic qualifiers for conference tourney champions, we can't have Cinderellas win any tournaments. It would make the at-large bid that much more difficult to get if several underdogs with NET 100+ rankings win their conference tourneys taking a bid that way.

  39. I assume we--as departing members--get little to nothing from whatever exit fees they pay, right? And whatever they end up paying will serve as precedent for what we will have to pay. It's probably in our best interest that they get a good chunk of change shaved off their exit fees.

  41. I think UAB's loss to Marshall tanked their chances at an at-large birth. Mid-majors simply don't get at-large bids with losses that bad. Especially, when you don't have a marquee win to balance it out with. IMO, we're in the same boat to receive an at-large...win out with a loss in the championship game. And if we do somehow win out there's no way we're seeded lower than 11. Hell, at 27-4 a 10 seed would be more likely than 12.

  42. I doubt with six wins between them, any will lose sleep over being barred from the CUSA men’s tournament and it’s no different from what JMU is facing. Sort of late to boot them off the baseball and softball schedules even if they get barred from the tournament, again same thing JMU is dealing with. Men’s and women’s indoor track, need a few more hotel rooms than already booked to get them to Birmingham for the indoor track championship. Women’s golf can accommodate them in Daytona. Men is at El Dorado, AR. Hotel rooms might be an issue there for the four newcomers. Men’s and women’s tennis in Peachtree City, GA, they can handle a few more teams no sweat. Outdoor track in Mobile, no issue there. Only problem for them is potentially men’s and women’s hoops, baseball and softball. In return they land where they want to be. Cost is not a big whoop. CUSA keeps their cut of revenue either way, and they go on the dole with the Sun Belt starting July 1, so financially a win. CUSA may file to get specific performance, courts generally don’t like specific performance though I have no idea how Texas courts are and Texas courts are the only one where the court would have jurisdiction over all the parties.

  43. I wish it were that simple. Further questions remain. Would that model, with lost fan interest, be sustainable? What would the TV money be like? How would donations be impacted? Money gained: does our new, lower level impliment a playoff postseason format? Is there more money in that? Previous administrations have said "f this" and dropped to lower levels before. I wasn't there, but I hear it was awful for our university. I suspect it would be even worse now, because the money is moreso blatantly and obviously being funneled to the top.
