There is never "too many wins".  You play 'em to win 'em.  If that results in UNT losing its HC to another school....well, good for us.  We'll go get us another good one like the one we lost.  This job pays pretty darn good money these days and a million dollar plus salary provides one with a pretty nice lifestyle in Denton these days.  There would be no lack of candidates.

Just win 'em and we'll go from there.

It took PJ Fleck two 8-win seasons, followed by a 13-win season and 4 straight number one recruiting classes in the MAC to go from Western Michigan to Minnesota.

It took Matt Rhule two 10-win seasons and the second best recruiting class in the AAC (behind Herman and Houston) to get him a P5 job.

Willie Taggart won 10 games in 2016, won 8 the year before, signed the number 1 class in the AAC in 2015, consistently recruited well, and had previously turned FBS startup WKU into a winning program. And he was far from the first choice at Oregon.

Jeff Brohm won 30 games in 3 yrs at WKU, including a 12-win undefeated conference championship season, and decent recruiting (#3 class in the conference in 2016) to get hired by Purdue.

Finally, Tom Herman won 22 games in 2 seasons at Houston including wins over Oklahoma, Florida State, and Louisville, who had the heisman trophy winner. He also turned heads nationally in recruiting, while signing 5-star DT Ed Oliver and the number 1 class in the AAC in 2016. That obviously got him the job at Texas.

And that's the extent of the coaches who went from G5 head coach to P5 head coach last year. So based on that, Littrell is a huge uptick in recruiting plus about 20 wins over the next two years away from having a resume that resembles these guys who made that jump.

Great info.. to early to tell on SL, but he will need a big uptick in recruiting before he draws attention.

Boy, have things changed through the years. Our last head coach hired away from us was Jerry Moore. His two year record (79-80) was 11-11.

Haha yes we can. Amsterdam the last few days and then to Brussels, then to France...contemplating rolling through the channel tunnel on my own into Dover, UK, but that is still in question. I'm still creeping on GMG throughout the trip though.

Yep.

But I agree with the posts about consistency. Even if we win 10 or 11, nobody at a P5 is jumping to hire him away unless they're a lower end program and are in such dire straits that they can't snatch up someone with a longer history of success as an HC. Even then...he may not take it.

Plus, look at this year's schedule. Even if our performance is middle of the road (compared to all fbs schools), that would get us 6 for sure and probably 2 or 3 more if we're slightly better than average. 2 or 3 10 win seasons including a couple of big upsets and great recruiting could do it. Faring better than the average mid major for a year or two with a schedule that isn't very tough? Nope...no worries about him being offered if that's how it goes.
