UNT to the?

  1. 1. If you were at UNT, which conference would you recommend we talk to about expansion.. Also, if you would like put some reasons(PRO and CON) for your choice

Anyways, I picked the AAC because it is our best option that lies within the realm of reality in the near future.  It's not a significantly better conference than the MWC, but it makes better geographic sense.  And either of them is better than C-USA, which frankly is going the wrong direction.  Banowsky's philosophy of adding schools based on market above accomplishment has proven to be the failure most of us thought it would be.

Though true, we have help pile on to that said failure.

If we can pick any conference I pick Pac 12. I love the academic standards associated with many of those schools and would like to be associated with the likes of Stanford, UCLA, and others. Plus with the amount of jucos in Arizona and California we got this past recruiting cycle it makes sense and would help keep that going.

I picked Pac 12 too because our style of play will translate well to that league and the Cali schools and Buffs get a nice footprint and access to the North Texas recruiting scene.

I agree. I just think we need to demonstrate we finally have our shit together by either kicking ass where we are or in a marginally higher conference FIRST. Then we wouldn't be the red-headed stepchild when we knock on the SEC's door.

Somehow I think that the MWC will have to precede the PAC. Unless Seth gets us a quick national championship of course.

No to anything west coast. I picked the Big XII because of geography and I think they are a better conference than most think. Texas likes to bully the rest of the conference. If their commissioner had any backbone, he would call them on it.

I picked the Pac 12. They are a respectable conference, bringing in National championship caliber teams like the SEC. I also think the Pac would like to expand their exposure into the Texas market as well. Teams in Cali and Oregon would love to get exposure in this state. However, (minus the fact that this is a very, very, very wishful thinking thread) I would be afraid that if the Big 12 implodes, there are going to be a flood of Texas teams up for grabs. 

I just think the Big 12 is already saturated with the Texas market, that they would be looking elsewhere... And that includes Houston. The SEC seems like they aren't in a rush to add anyone anyways.

Look, the ultimate end goal should be something like Big12, but we're at the bottom right now.  It is nowhere near realistic for UNT to go straight from the bottom of C-USA to any better conference, let alone a P5.  We have to work our way up.    For this reason, I chose the AAC.   The MWC would be great as well.   Gotta win first though.

I picked CUSA because I want to see us dominate our local rivals, and then we can focus on moving to the BIG12. I don't think we need to be thinking about a move until we can dominate CUSA though.

      The bats have definitely been the biggest disappointment the past two years. The run support simply hasn't been there enough. Now, I'm still optimistic for the tournament. Last year we won three straight to make it to the title game. But that double bye would have been nice especially if we only have two reliable pitchers right now.

      Why the NCAA model is dying and will be replaced

      You can rebuild a college basketball rotation to contend at a high level in one year. That is just 8-9 players. And if you get lucky with 2-3 absolute monsters, you can make a run in any given season. Of course, then those 2-3 monsters will get poached by deeper pockets and you will have to start all over again. But still, it is possible. But we can’t rebuild a college football two-deep in one year. That’s almost 50 players that we need to compete at a high level. And as has been demonstrated, any time we get football players who have any kind of success in the NIL era, they are gone quicker than you can say “Chandler Rogers”. Another reason it is easier for us to compete in the NIL era in basketball is because that sport is dominated by guards. There are LOTS of talented guards available in college basketball and some of the very best can fall through the cracks and land with us for atleast a season. And while many people would say that college football is dominated by quarterbacks (and that position is VERY important)… what really separates the elite college football programs from everyone else are the defensive linemen. The supply of 18-24 year-old humans who weigh 300 pounds with the strength to take on multiple blockers while also having the speed to run down a quarterback is no where near the demand. And these defensive linemen usually take a while to develop. But anytime a defensive linemen shows a hint of promise, he gets funneled to the highest bidder and that won’t be us. Which means we will never be able to compete with the SEC or Big 10 in football.
