It's hard to move up the rankings if you can't string together more than 1 win at a time. As 90 said, big time opportunity games on the road.

Would it be a stretch to say the next two are must win games? In the sense that if you want to make a bowl game, surely you must be able to beat teams that aren't in the top 100 teams in the country.

we would be a lot closer to 36 had we taken care of business in new orleans. that game is going to stick with me all year. i'm almost more upset about it now than I was that day....almost.

I think we have a 5 week stretch that sets up perfectly for us. two of the weaker teams on the schedule on the road (maybe the two weakest) followed up by three home games, where two are very winnable (utep and utsa) and one that will be used as another measuring stick (rice). this could and probably should be a 5 game stretch that breaks some of those infamous streaks that we've accumulated over the last 8 years.

gmg!

At this current time, and the games ahead of us, what do you suppose the best case scenario is for us as far as ranking goes?

If we were to win out in dominating fashion I think we might, might break the top 25. by dominating I mean roll the rest of the teams by 20 points. I don't see that happening.

I agree with you....The group of fans I was with sat in silent disbelief that we lost for about 10 minutes after the game ended....I am sure the way we felt was no different than how crushed the Ball State fans felt after their dominating first half against us.

Yes, I think 8-3 would get us a vote or two, 9-3 gets us at least close with a bunch of votes, and 10-3 definitely puts us over the top for the first time since the 70's. No room left to stumble unless we lose only one and come up with a big bowl win. I can see us coming home with a`lot of confidence if we can take these two on the road.

I'm not even going to complain about being #44, I'm just happy to be undefeated with a true freshman under center (who has been amazing) and all of the true freshmen and sophomores we have starting on defense. They have exceeded everybody on Cullen's expectations and Saturday's homecoming game against BYU will be a good test to see where we are.

Same can be said for UNT in regards to exceeding expectations. This appears to be the best team in over a decade and if the HOD bowl becomes a reality for the Mean Green, it could mean a whole new era in Denton.

Their offense was held to 7 points. Those other 14 were defensive scores, if I remember it accurately. Our team beat itself that night.

7+14=21

Tulane scored 24

The last 3 coming on an 80 yard drive when UNT desperately bedded a stop from the defense.

Where and when people started saying "we only gave up 7" is a great unknown to me.

But it's clearly, maddeningly wrong.
