In my opinion VY is better than Vick.  We will see.

Just more successful only because he won the NC. Young's talent around him was FAR superior to what Vick had at VT. Mike Vick was a better passer and runner.

Vick single handedly put VT on the map.

All, IMO, of course. cool.gif

Reggie Bush fit's the mold of Marshall Faulk. An all purpose back.

Julius Jones is only 200lbs. Tiki Barber has shown he can carry the load. Reggie Bush will be a helluva plater in the league. The man has acceleration like no other. Unreal.

As for the Texas 'love' I just don't get the "you're from Texas be happy" explanation.  I highly doubt Tech & aTm fans are saying the same thing. dry.gif

I was cheering for USC the entire time. 8 months of burnt orange boot licking will be hard to take. dry.gif

I was happy for my friends/family who are alums/fans of UT. I was happy for the same reason when OU won it 5 years ago...have the OU fans in general grown tiresome since then (ok, up until last year), yeah probably...but that doesn't change the fact that I'm glad they got to experience that. Do I personally want to hold a parade for UT??---NO way! I'm greenblood all the way and wouldn't consider myself a part of that.

I just think ranting about how much UT (or Vince Young) sucks, right after they win a national championship, reeks of inferiority complex. So you might run into a few bandwagon fans who talk too much trash....ok, darn, that's tough. But I'm sure many of us have friends/family associated with UT...why should we hate them for it??

That said, when August/Sept (whenever our game with UT is) comes around, I will hate them like dogs when we line up against them.

First off, I applied to, was accepted by and chose not to attend UT....just like FSU, Colorado State, Tech, and a slew of other schools.  I do appreciate your lame ass attempt at comedy.  I can only hope your day job is secure because you won't be headlining the improv anytime soon.

Now, as to VY versus Michael Vick.  Let's all throw a parade for Vince Young and the Longhorns.  Wait, hold your confetti TI, I think someone may already have that task covered.  By your logic Josh Heupel is better than Ken Dorsey and Chris Weinke.  They've both lost in the BCS national title game in the last five years.  And hey, that Josh Heupel is just tearin it up in the NFL these days huh?

Nope, no joke. Just trying to understand where the jealousy/hatred comes from...you can't have just been born with it!

?? Josh Heupel? Beside the fact that his team won the national championship on the strength of it's defense (13-2 vs. FSU), why don't you try sticking to the players that you brought up in your original post?! So....care to try again?

You people make me sick...what are you a friggin liberal?! How could you cheer against kids born in Texas, went to Texas schools and full of the state of Texas pride? Not liking Texas is one thing but openly cheering for a California or Florida team to beat a Texas team is unnacceptable...get a rope

I was for Texas Wednesday night and I'm a "friggin Democrat". Anytime they play another team from another state, I will always be for them.

Otherwise, I respect their program and what they've accomplished, but (as DeepGreen might say) I don't like the "arrogant sum'bitches".

And it annoyes me when people go out and "buy the T-shirt" and suddenly they are part of the "Texas tradition". And they've never even set foot on the campus, much less taken a class there. dry.gif

--I find that very offensive. I am a Democrat. I and the rest of us do support this state. For over 100 years Democrats held every office in this state and the state did pretty well. Until the Democrats passed the civil rights acts, the GOP could not win any offices in the state. Much of the south then converted to the GOP as as result. I have one word to say ---Delay. We are not pagan-gay-socialists despite how Pat Robertson and some of them want to paint us. I suppose Carter is not considered Christian. Learn the truth. Our conservative GOP has not had ONE balanced federal budget since 1980, The Clinton years balanced it 6 of 8 times, actually had a surplus if you remember. . Again learn the truth....... The current group in Austin can't even pass a school budget and schools are hurting and college tuition is skyrocketing because of their inemptness. I am in education.

---I take great Pride in a comment Will Rodgers made when asked which political party he was a member of. His Response--- "I am not a member of an organized party, I am a Democrat"........ to me meaning that it is a very diverse group that cares about people.

Enough politics... learn the truth and don't just take some idiots word as true.

1)Vince Young is no Michael Vick.  Period.  End of story.  Don't bother with a rebuttle.  Vick's arm strenght, foot speed, and ability as a quarterback are head and shoulders above VY's.  Period.  Vince Young is a special player true enough.  He's also the recipient of being the first and last option (with the backs and receivers thrown in somewhere in between) when Texas lines up on EVERY play.  He will get his yards...goodie.

2)I don't give a rat's ass if Texas is "from the state of Texas."  This is about the most tired, backwards argument in the history of this board.  When was the last time you had to sit next to a bunch of Florida State, Ohio State or Michigan "fans" and listen to them belittle every possible thing about our alma mater just because Wal-Mart had a sale on UT t-shirts?  I can't remember either.  If the Klan from Texas gets into a riot against the Aryan brotherhood from Montana you won't see me waving my Texas flag and telling the Klan to "bring one home for the good ol' state of Texas."  I'll call both groups ass-holes and hope a good episode of Family Guy is on that night.  Likewise with UT, they're just ass-holes who reside in my state.

3)Reggie Bush should be the first pick in the NFL draft.  He is an amazing player...yes, better than Vince Young.  I don't know if he's a better athlete, he may not be, but he's a better player.  Reggie Bush as a tailback is better than Vince Young as a quarterback...step away from your keyboard and tell Vince to give you back the engagement ring because it's true.  In the NFL the "zone read" that Vince Young runs is called the "catscan" because the first time he runs it against an NFL defense he will be carted off.  Even Michael Vick, who again is the better athlete, doesn't tuck and run anymore because the pounding is too great.

4)Texas will not, let me repeat this, WILL NOT win a national title again next year.  With or without Vince Young Oklahoma will not stay down, Ohio State comes to Austin, and a slew of SEC (LSU amongst them) will be greatly improved.  Enjoy your cow t-shirts while they last.

1) Wrong. Simple as that.

2) You're just rambling because you're a UT hater and you're pissed. The Klan analogy is a false one.

3) OK, maybe so.

4) You're probably right on this one. And no cow shirt here.

Everyone knows the Aryan brotherhood from Montana would kill the Klan from Texas. laugh.gif

If only they could kill each other... dry.gif

Religion has probably caused more wars (and stupid arguments) and caused more people to die than any other reason in history. Even this Iraq war has religion as a big issue.

Second on the list is probably racism which was started here by the first post on this thread by -Emmitt- but don't think any group has a monopoly on that issue. Ever see the movie "Hotel Rowanda" ????

I hope this thread now dies.

Why can't you stop Vince Young if he is the main option in the offense? If you and everyone elso knows he's going to run the ball for 200 yards......why can't the 2 time defending National Champs do something about it? Vince was a man among boys in that game....and two of those boys had Heisman Trophies.

As far as the Michael Vick comparisons are concerned....time will tell. Vick hasn't impressed me in the NFL just yet. So to try to tell me who is going to be better......at this point.....just is dumb. You have no clue......yet!

If you can't watch that performance and appreciate it for what it was, then you have no business calling yourself a football fan.

I'm sorry, I did not mean to tick off the democRATS...I have since edited my post.

I'm just quite sure that guy eats salsa made in New York City wink.gif

---Sorry, afraid not, my family showed up on the Texas Frontier in the 1870's, even one member was scalped by Indians. Some members were even denied the right to vote by the Republican reconstruction in Texas. My Grandfather lost a lot of Texas land due the Republican economic and banking policies during the 20's which caused the Depression. I am not quite a Yellow-Dog Democrat but getting a lot closer due the the policies regarding schools by the present GOP-led legislature at the moment. The GOP in the past have been the RATS ( the polite term you used ) and seem to be getting there again.

---Are you a 5th generation Texan as I am ??? and are you enjoying all the tuition increases and educational policies we have had as a result of the past two GOP-led regular sessions. They passed no school budget (a first in Texas) which caused many schools to open without needed supplies. I seem to remember them approving a Law School for North Texas and then not funding it. Yep, they are really great guys (Delay et. al.) --and that is why Stayhorn has left the party.

Dang! Between you and Plumm, I feel like the new kid on the Texas block. My family moved to Palestine around 1881. My grandfather was the first born in Texas (1892), so I guess that makes me a third generation Texan.

My grandfather was a union man (Railroad), a mason, and (as my Republican mother used to call him....with much disdain in her voice) a "Roosevelt Democrat".

He was also invited to join the KKK......which he declined.

---Smart man (to decline), personally I would consider you fourth generation Texan since your great-grandfather apparently died in Texas. The KKK was more active in the eastern part of state and not so much in the western (frontier) part.

---My father's side were German immigrants but on my mother's side, her mother's family came from the Confederacy and her father's family came from the California Gold Rush (49er). They settled on land that was part of the Chisolm trail....You could still a little evidence of it when I was a kid. Doesn't really sound like I am a yankee from NYC, does it. LOL
