It’s becoming glaringly apparent that North Texas is not an attractive opponent to have on your schedule even if you’re ranked #22 in the nation and on national TV.

This is disappointing.  Could not even out-draw the 10:30PM blockbuster between Montana State and Sacramento State.

Looking at past ratings, I could surmise that having Tulane on our schedule is an attendance/viewership killer.

Keep playing as we are beginning to play and we'll improve.  We are newcomers to big time TV and it'll take a little while to get known.

While it's true that we haven't raised much of an eyebrow yet, this year will depend on how many times we'll make an appearance and who the opponent is.

I wonder how many people in Denton County knew that we were on national TV?  We need to advertise...establish watching parties...take out a few ads when we are playing away.  We've started in that direction but we still have a way to go.

It seems our last games are turning heads.  Just win a few and we'll be on our way.

Our problem is branding and lack of sports culture on campus.  The student turn out is terrible, and the student body is larger then it has ever been.  Its not because the team isnt winning, I remember plenty of bad seasons where student turn out was still good.  there is no social culture for students when it comes to game day.

At this point, just accept it. Where else can you go and get to watch your team play for such a large value? It’s not any other school near here. Those 47k that attend UNT pay for this thing. If they don’t care about it, then don’t worry about it.

We are never gonna be an athletics school. We just aren’t. We are an affordable option for students who want a quality education close to DFW. We are an arts and music school first. That our window to the university and it’s the one the leaders have preferred for decades. I used to get embarrassed by the lack of support and attendance. But now I just want their dollars to keep flowing here. None of us can make students, faculty, alumni, or Denton citizens care about this place’s teams any more than we have tried before. So just accept and move on. Enjoy getting great seats at DATCU Stadium without a hassle. And just enjoy that there are about 5000 or so folks who get to enjoy the program to themselves.

Is North Texas a tiny school? No.

Is North Texas one of those schools that has a pathetic record every year? No again.

So what's the problem? Why do absolutely no college football fans have interest in this school?

North Texas has done absolutely everything wrong concerning branding or lack thereof.

It's incredible how a Tier 1, Research 1 university with 47,000 students can be considered such a "generic" product, strictly an educational appliance, treated with all the respect of a diploma mill.

Animal House College Shirt                                          being generic would be a joke at any other college

But here we are. Our branding sucks beyond sucking. We let absolute imbeciles select our uniforms to represent our school. We let an absolute dumbass monkey with our heritage and add an unapproved color to our school colors on our branding site. Nobody does a damn thing to correct anything, nor will they, until it affects their ability to cash their pay check.

Our newest branding initiative is what? We're going to reintroduce a myriad of obsolete logos that very few people remember existing? Dear Lord, START FIRING PEOPLE FOR GROSS INCOMPETANCE!

Hey Players, want to wear black and white for university events? Go the F* somewhere else.

Hey Coach, want to wear black and white for university events? Go the F* somewhere else.

Hey Athletics Director, want to wear black and white for university events? Go the F* somewhere else.

Hey VP of Branding and Marketing, want to wear black and white for university events? Go the F* somewhere else.

Hey University President, want to wear black and white for university events? Go the F* somewhere else.

Or we can continue to let those same people that need to be dismissed blame the students, alumni, community, and the television viewers.

North Texas needs a major image overhaul.

Preach!

I thought a major overhaul was coming when we switched to the AAC, but it turns out things remain the same. Our uniforms still don’t match our helmets, and it’s not a good look on national television. We’re leaving a lot on the table.

Definitely disappointing, but I’d rather play on Saturday’s with these ratings than on weekdays with a little bit better rating.

On another note, doesn’t the low rating say more about a ranked Tulane than it does about us?

Kind of disappointing but somewhat expected.  Academic elite small private schools aren’t a TV draw.  The only time they would be is if they are viewed as a legitimate threat to get a spot in the playoff.  But the number isn’t a good reflection on our program either. I am very critical of our program because the only way to reverse the perception of it is to win big and consistently win 8 games a year minimum.  So yeah we can celebrate beating an undefeated UTSA team to get to 6-6 but that does nothing for our program long term.   Too many losing or right at 0.500 seasons preceded it.

112K for a school that has an enormous alumni base and enrollment is shocking. I tried watching some of the SMU-Temple game, but between it being such a blowout and how awful Temple is, it was unwatchable. And somehow, with going up against playoff baseball, the SMU game had over 548k viewing.

WE had a lot of competition Saturday at 2:30. Alabama vs Tennessee for example.

TV ratings don't happen in a vacuum. Other games happening at the same time will pull away casual fans just looking to see what is on. At the same time as our game there was Alabama/Tennessee, Texas/Houston, Minnesota/Iowa, Wazzu/Oregon, and Okie State/West Virginia. Plus, we are on ESPU2 which only available in about 2/3 the homes as ESPN.

Yes, we need to be doing better in rating. But frankly, we should be doing better in home attendance which will ultimately hope build the program more.
