  1. But one of the Murphy twins just jumped offsides. And the other one just fell down faking an injury.

  2. Easy with the "stupid" talk. They need to learn, but their hunger is what makes them explosive too. Don't call a player stupid.. that's out of bounds, like an Aune pass.

  3. I've been following UNT football for a loooong time. I watched us lose a competitive game to the Pony Express in Texas Stadium. I lobbied UNT classmates about why we should approve the vote the move football from D-2 back to D-1. "Don't you want to see Notre Dame or Penn State play us in Denton?" (Oh how naive I was back then.) I was listening to the live broadcast of the Baylor game when George Dunham asked, "Do you believe in the Mean Green??" I was in Lubbock in '97 and '99 when we beat Texas Tech. I recall how proud I was when friends would ask, "Didn't Erric Pegram go to North Texas?" I was there when Dickey's team donned those awful looking black shirts and I was there when McCarney's team shit the bed against Portland State. I watched Brewer's awesome punt return in the Arkansas game a few years ago (family commitment kept from witnessing that one in person). I'm sure there are a few more, but those are the highlights (and lowlights) that immediately come to mind for me. 4+ decades of following UNT football and that's all I've got. I was once a die-hard, enthusiastic Mean Green supporter and took my family to the game every weekend. I knew our football schedule by memory. Many years of disappointment have taken its toll on me and stolen all my excitement for UNT football. Season tickets are something I no longer even contemplate buying. Instead I've immersed myself in my kids' sports - I coach them and I can control how good the teams are. When we lose, I know how to fix things. I know how to get better. We win and we win a LOT (I'm a competitive SOB). Oh, I'll still check the UNT score, but it may not be until mid-week or later. Friends will ask, "Who does UNT play this week?" I have no idea and will have to check my phone for the schedule. When we make some spare bowl game it doesn't really do anything to excite me. A lot of teams make spare bowl games these days. No big deal really. Why did I just share all of that??? Why?? Because I'm just one of thousands of disenfranchised UNT football fans that have found better, much more fulfilling things to do with their time. We are a sleeping giant, right? I've heard on this board many times. Hell, I've even said it myself. What will it take to ignite our fan base and is that even possible?? A top 25 ranking?? Top 10?? Undefeated season?? Will one season do it or will it take multiple seasons of success before the average UNT grad feels proud enough to say, "I went there!" and start attending games, buying merchandise and raising TV ratings? What will it take to get Top 25 programs to play in Denton on a regular basis?? I fear nothing short of a P5 conference will result in getting home games against P5 programs. What will it take to make top 100 Texas recruits want to play college football at UNT?? We will likely never compete with Texas, OU or A&M for top Texas recruits, but we should be able to compete with any other Texas school. The school districts north of Dallas; Allen, Frisco, Plano, Denton have some of the top talent in the country every year. Yet, we struggle to get even one of those players to play at UNT. I ask all these questions as I watch undefeated UTSA, now ranked #24 in their 10th season of playing football. Charlotte, in their 8th season, gets invited to the same conference as UNT. UAB terminated their football program in 2014, and didn't play for 2+ seasons, yet in 2021 they also are invited to the same conference as UNT. Liberty just started playing FBS football in 2019 and cracked the Top 25 in 2020. I'm surprised they didn't get the nod over us for the AAC. Why not UNT? How does UNT fix things?? How does UNT get better? What does the future hold? Why is it so hard to have a successful football program? We haven't been ranked since the 70s, will we go another 40+ years before we crack the Top 25?

  4. 43 yard punt return set up the TD for the Bucs. I thought JD was gonna take it to the house. Nance just said that's the longest punt return in the NFL so far this season.

  5. Not sure if anyone else caught the pregame show on the radio or their interview with Wren, but he said something to the effect of: "I know the football season has not gone the way we wanted, but we hope everyone will stick with us until the end of the season, and then we'll address what changes need to be made to get back on track."

  6. Why do people keep saying how much talent is on this roster? A bunch of bogus “recruiting” experts selling subscriptions? From what I see on the field - I’m not buying it. We can do better.

  9. Looking at the roster, I did not realize we have 84 players that are SO, RFR, or FR. I assume that Covid year may have something to do with that, but man that is a young roster. We have 8 seniors and 13 juniors on the roster. Based on the media guide for the Liberty game we had 2 SR starters on offense (Jason Pirtle, Deandre Torrey) and 4 SR starters on defense (Dion Novil, Caleb Colvin, Tyreke Davis, Makyle Sanders). Not sure what this says about us, but we are most definitely not a senior laden team. Trying to find some positives among plenty of negatives.

  10. The UTSA coach had a very successful Texas high school coaching background. The SMU coach has done it with transfers and marketing. Somehow I don't think its rocket science to generate a profile as to the background needed by a coach to be successful in Denton . I have been supporting UNT football since 1961 but gave up my club seats this year. Some of it has to do with my age and concern for COVID but basically I am just tired of decades of horse shit football. Yes we had a few good seasons with Corky, Darrell , and Seth, but when you must reach back to the 70's to have something to hang your hat on you have an ongoing problem.

  11. You SHOULD care more about your kids’ sports than North Texas. So what? It’s a bad football season. Hope is just a new hire away. With a new, good coach and the transfer portal, next season this roster will look nothing like it does today. Our basketball program is fantastic and deserves support. I just bought season tickets to that for the first time ever. Go Mean Green!

  12. As one of the few that has been a fan longer than you. I see real hope for a variety of reasons: NT has put the dollars into the program, second largest budget in CUSA: A great indoor practice facility I like NT's leadership in the President and AD Apogee is a great venue The move to the AAC should be very positive for every athletic program 42000 + students Located in one of the best areas for growth in the USA The substantially improved NT academics are being recognized What does what Liberty, UTSA, etc. have to do with NT Might as well complain that La Tech, USM, MTSU, WKU are not going to the AAC, because all have as good or better athletic histories as NT. If your top 25 programs you want to play in Denton are p5's, it is probably not going to happen. Those programs seldom play in OC games away and they are certainly not likely to play a G5.

  14. When it was passed time for RV to go, I told the folks calling for donations, "look, write this down, don't call me again until there is a new AD, send that up the chain." Hand-to-god, it was the very next day after he stepped down and the phone started ringing again.... I have no doubt that if SL is still at the helm in the new year, this will happen again. I knew there were some others who had done the same thing, it wasn't a big PR campaign, weren't trying to publicly embarrass anyone but it became impossible to support not only athletics but other departments and projects as it had grown (with other things certainly) to the point where you were really questioning what we as a UNT Community stood for at the time. Things like, what are our standards going to be? What's our return on investment looking like? Are we doing our best and is this the best we can do? I respect SL, will always appreciate the good he's done, I think he's a man of high character and integrity, who cares deeply about people and North Texas, but just like Coach O at LSU, you may get a year where expectations aren't met to fix it but after that, it's time to move on. It's business, not personal. He's had a good run, he's been given time to fix things, we've regressed, he got more than a fair shot to fix it, it's not an easy thing for anyone, any where, some tough breaks along the way, a play here or there, or may be costly injuries, it's the same story everywhere, and always has been, so is the ending, it's time to move on. I think everyone would love to have more reasons to justify him staying versus leaving, there's always adjustments when a new coach comes in (I hate the term 'rebuild' and don't use it, not fair and disrespectful to the SA's who are already there and have been there IMO), those adjustments can be frustrating and requires even more patience and faith, but patience and faith has run out on the SL era, it's neither good nor bad, its just the way it is *sings* IN THE CIRCLE OF LIIIIIFEEEE.

  18. No chance he's back. None. I have faith in Wren Baker to right a very glaring wrong. This will not be a Tony Benford 2.0 scenario. Some say we can't afford to change. I say we can't afford to not change. We are already struggling for 1/3 attendance. Finish this year up and bring this staff back we will struggle to fill 1/4, maybe a 1/5.

  19. The first bowl with a losing record we only got because the academics under Coach McCarney were so good.

  20. IMO, wearing our NT throwback unis/helmets is now synonymous with losing. All we do is take L’s with them on. Our equipment team needs to pivot and only use the throwbacks on rare occasions. Bring back the wing helmets and use that as the alternate option.

  21. Is there anyway we can steal Billy Napier away from Louisiana? I don't think it would be possible financially but man would be awesome if we could steal a good young HC from a smaller conference like we did with when we got McCasland from ark st

  22. Bad hires have have a ripple effect. I don’t know how true this is anymore but I’ve heard we don’t have a great reputation with high school coaches. That’s more impactful than we’d like to hope. Your comment on new programs goes to my theory that no reputation is better than a bad reputation. We really need to make a good hire and ride that into the AAC. I tune out in bad seasons and just cherish the good ones. Probably the best way to stay sane.

  23. That game turned when they tossed out Gaddie for the bogus targeting call. They toss a TD right over his replacement within a play or two. Then we lose both starting corners. Defense played great, but ran out of depth. Then you have the awful no call on the intentional grounding in the end zone that should’ve tied the game and given us the ball. Can’t remember a game where I felt the refs just flat stole it, but tonight was close. Those two calls were game changing. I hope we’re sending in a complaint to the league office.

  24. It is a great indicator how far we are performing below where we should be. We have resources and we have made Investments but are failing to see the result on the football field
    4 points
  25. The problem with having a lot of transfers is the overall numbers impact. We can only bring in a certain amount of players every year so if we lose a lot to transferring we're not able to replenish the numbers
    4 points
  26. Nothing says we can’t replace the outgoing with better incoming. Especially if we get a home run hire. And I don’t think there are any players on this roster with eligibility next season that I would say “we CANNOT let that guy go” they’re all replaceable imho could be a net positive

  27. HIRE A REAL OC, NOT YOUR OFFENSIVE LINE COACH!!!!!!!!! Seth is so incompetent and clueless, he promoted his OL coach, who developed a solid OL in 2020, and now everything has gone to shit. No creativity, and when there is a glimmer of it, most of the time it fails and isn’t ran properly. The top donors need to break the friendship up and fire Littrell

  31. It is called treating him with class. Here or not after this season, he brought a change to our culture, success with Fine, etc. No need to kick a man while he is down. This event was a celebration to excite the fan base and talk up the conference move. Littrell’s contributions to this move should be highlighted. I am sure, considering how this season has gone, that he felt uncomfortable, but it was the right thing to do.

  32. He won’t be the head coach after this year.

  33. A lot of coaches would take $1.3 million to $1.8 million a year to coach UNT, which is among the highest in G5. Winning at least 5 games once in your first two seasons is not asking for the impossible.

  34. Seth inherited crap as far as talent and recruiting. The next coach will be a lot more fortunate.

  35. There is a minimum number of schools a conference must have (8 I think) in order to have an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. So anything less then that must trigger some sort of exception clauses, because the tournament is such a big revenue generator for the smaller conferences.

  36. I didn’t know the score until I walked into the stadium. I didn’t want to see the score until I bought a ticket to see my friends inside. So I lollygag around the house watching a tragic 9OT game at Penn state. I make it inside the stadium in the third quarter and am shocked we are winning. Just didn’t want to know we were getting blown out by 40 before the Apogee gate. Then it all dissipates. The warmth of a win is gone. Liberty roars back and does what I thought they would do, win easily. I remember those days too. Drives to NMSU to witness the miracle in the desert. The flat tire in the panhandle on the way tk Air Force - repair arrive by halftime - 2 wins on the plains over TTU. A drive to see my Mean Green battle Jake the snake under the lights in sun devil stadium. so many awesome memories and then this array trots out with Seth still on the sideline. I’m sorry but a job opening for head coach at UNT is the worst kept secret in college football. Why wren and Neil do you allow him to continue and Contribute to the driving of our program into the ground? Your work is not done. You got us into the AAC. But you are ignoring the most obvious thing that needs to be done. It’s sad. Meanwhile utsa rolls on. Smu continues to position. Your inaction is quite the action and seems miles away from the teams I have followed from coast to coast. gmg

  37. You’re correct, but it’s a warning when people freak out when a good player leaves. I mean look at SMU in 2018. Sonny hired the right coaches, got the right guys to transfer in, and boom they start winning a year after

  39. Who would have thought after a tough loss, we would have fans that want to fire the coach and change QB's. That is the normal reaction on fan boards of unsuccessful teams. I actually thought that NT played their best game of the year. Yeah, that is not saying much; but the effort was definitely there. The lost of wide receivers and defensive backs probably was the difference. Littrell is not going to fired during the season and the odds of another QB emerging that is better than Aune is minimal. However, if you think it accomplishes something; please feel free to continue to plaster the board with those sentiments.

  40. No we lost the game on our own merit. We had a two score lead, then it was cut to 26-21. On the next drive we have a big 3rd & 7 conversion downfield however it’s negated by a f***ing holding call. Another drive killer penalty, we then punt and they take it back to the house, taking the lead, and never looking back.

  41. Or, alternatively, NT should have been up soooo much more than 13 points, if it does even semi ok on red zone, gets not sideline infractions etc. Like that this 9 point swing would not have mattered either, because NT would have been so far ahead But I agree, alternative reality is interesting, but rarely useful

  44. These aren’t pros that get drafted. They picked this school. Maybe you want to give them another reason to find another place to play but I sure as hell don’t. It makes zero sense to make UNT students of which most will become fellow alumni resent the school we are supposed to love. You can tell Seth to go to hell, bitch the refs and opposing players up and down the field all day long but you absolutely do not boo our own players.

    3 points
  48. Yeah, I don't think they were going to be like: "And don't worry, guys, we're gonna can this guy soon and get back to winning YEAHHHHH!" I believe Wren is simply planning on giving SL the year to coach out and finish and wishes to support him along the way. That's all. I mean, they also spoke glowingly of RV. Nature of the event, so I wouldn't read too much into it.
