  1. https://www.walmart.com/search/?query=University of North Texas Never thought to look here. They have more UNT gear than I thought they would.

  2. A story worth reading about racial integration at the University of North Texas, both academically and in sports. Since North Texas is playing UTEP this week, I thought this story would be relavant. Very proud to say that North Texas was ahead of its time. The story of Abner Haynes and Leon King is really quite remarkable. https://swcroundup.com/news/2018/10/3/the-1957-north-texastexas-western-game-and-the-integration-of-texas-college-football

  4. He's saying a 3-way tiebreaker would look something like this: LATech beats UNT UAB beats LATech UNT beats UAB Then, the head-to-head matchups don't help. You have to move to the next line of tiebreak rules.

  5. I enjoyed the article. Makes me wonder why it took the player asking to move the best CB on the field to cover the WR that was killing them.

  9. I’m sure I’m not the first person to think this, but after 1.5 seasons of watching Darden return punts, I think it may be time to let Brewer do it full time. Re-watching the LaTech game and seeing the muffed punt(AT THE 5 YARD LINE) is the straw that broke the camels back for me. Darden is electric with the ball in his hands, but he seems to make a mistake like this every other game. I get the homerun potential, but I’d rather have consistency and intelligence when it comes to returns. Not saying Brewer is the answer, but I’m not sure I can trust Darden back there anymore.

  16. I wouldn't necessarily say we were expected to lose to Portland State that year. That current moment was the lowest of the low. The loss to LaTech does hurt. Almost like the 2013 UTSA loss hurt. We made it so far in the season and that one loss in 2013 gave Rice the spot to go to the championship instead of us. It's just reality of being a Football fan, it's a dedication and test of will. Fortunately there is lots of season left and anything can happen to propel us into the conference championship game over the #1 in the west, just like Rice in 2013. Our 2018 team has to put the loss in the past and focus on each opponent one game at a time.

  17. "Deep down we really all knew the NY6 was unattainable." Respectfully, I would like to disagree. It was always unlikely and by no means a slam dunk even if we had finished 13-0, but I still wouldn't call it "unattainable." Any G5 team that completes its non-conference schedule by blowing out every single opponent is squarely in the conversation.

  19. I heard an interesting news story about BeIN sports yesterday (10/3). BeIN is currently sueing the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia because a pirate TV station on Riyadh is broadcasting content from BeIN without paying any license fees. They did that for the entire World Cup which BeIN had bought the middle east rights to exclusively carry. It seems BeIN is a spin off of Al Jazziera and both are largely owned by the Qatari government. Qatar and Saudi Arabia have an ongoing dispute as Qatar supported many of the Arab Spring revolutionaries while SA was putting them in jail and sometimes beheading. Much of the BeIN programming is extremely popular in SA - soccer, tennis, F1 and motorcycle racing are very big in the middle east. SA seems to want to hurt Qatar by hurting Qatari companies. While SA claims they don't know who operate the pirate TV station, it has a tower and broadcasts from Riyadh. That makes the Kingdom's "we can't find them" rather unbelievable. None of this directly affects BeINs broadcast of US college football currently, but if the company suffers a large enough financial drain it could state to. If you watched the game last week on BeIN, most of the network promos were for the sports most popular in SA that are being pirated. I never thought middle east politics could effect my watching of NT football! Here's a link to a print news story about what's going on. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-10-01/qatar-s-bein-sports-seeks-1-billion-damages-from-saudi-arabia

  20. Man, that home schedule with questionable opponents is rough...Road schedule a little better with some quality opponents. Home schedule is: Angelo State, Texas A&M-Commerce, Maryland Eastern Shore, Maine, St. Peters, UTA, and Arkansas Pine Bluff....Not exactly going to fire-up the Mean Green base......disappointing.... But, of course, I'll watch/listen to each game no matter what!

  25. Late KC Chiefs owner Lamar Hunt called our friend Abner Haynes “the 1’st super star of the American Football League.” Hunt was known to not throw such accolades. I saw Abner & the Chiefs play the Oilers in Rice Stadium while a HS student. Our entire football team bussed over to Houston for the game. Rice Stadium? Judge Roy Hofheinz & Bud Adams were still feuding & trying to work a deal for the Oilers to play in the Astrodome. I mentioned to Abner (back in the day) that (like UTEP’s Don Maynard) had he played for a New York or east coast team that he’d be in the NFL Hall of Fame today. Sad that such regional bias existed back then, too. GMG!

  27. Worst football related post ever? If posts were football games, this post would be Portland State. We lost by two points to a good team. Everything that could go wrong, did, and we still NEARLY won. Littrell took a 1-11 team, has us at 4-1, receiving national publicity, and going to bowls. Your post is why people should step back, count to 10, and ask if what you're about to post makes any sense. The audience is now dumber for reading your nonsense. I award you no points, and may Seth Littrell have mercy on your soul.

  28. I'm on the 9:35am flight out of Love to El Paso and flying back Sunday night. Going with a buddy who is a UTEP grad who I've forced into caring about C-USA football. I love to point out the week after week performance of UTEP... he loves saying they're saving their one win for North Texas. We were talking about going out to Cattlemans Steakhouse for a meal on Sunday. I don't think we'd have enough time after the game to make the drive. I'll take some pics. We still don't have tickets, haven't decided if I should sit visitors section or buy some 50yd line tickets.

  32. There are about at least 5 more of those plays. Ejiya's late hit, extending a drive that was stopped at 4th down & a mile, effectively turning the tide of the game. That long 3rd-down Circus catch over Johnson The Easly fumble The first missed FG The blocked FG So no, not 100% on Darden.

  35. Amen, Marty! An Abner Haynes Story (he told many of us downtown Dallas at Old One Main Place back in the 1970's). This story some of you know and I as recall I believe its in his book. Well, the story goes......North Texas was taking a train down to the Bayou City to play the U of Houston Cougars in the mid 1950's. We were both in the Missouri Valley Conference at the time. So, the train arrives in Houston stops behind the hotel where our team would stay. Hotel officials told Coach Mitchell that Abner & Leon would not be allowed to stay in the hotel because of the segregation.😡 ❌Unfortunately, an ugly era in our country (Jim Crow, etc) was happening in the South & Southwest. Long story short , the entire North Texas football team’s attitude was...”If Abner & Leon can't come inside that hotel with the team then we are staying on the train with them" (& they did). We have had some great athletes & human beings walk down "the Corridor of Years" at all of our's favorite school. You know, we may not always have everything in common but what we do have in common is...the University of North Texas & the Mean Green! GMG!

  37. This is my first time checking the forum since the game. I still have a terrible taste in my mouth. That’s the saddest I’ve ever felt after a UNT game. Portland State was a disaster but we were garbage and expected to lose. I still love this team and will still be at all of the home games, it’s just hard to shake this ****** feeling after losing our chance at the division (yeah UAB COULD beat LA Tech but UAB also got blown out by 2nd year FBS team Coastal Carolina). I don’t mean to be a bummer, but this is honestly the worst I’ve ever felt after a UNT game.
