North Texas:

411.6 yds/gm = 68th nationally

227.6 pass yds/gm = 68th nationally

184 rush yds/gm = 47th nationally

31.5 pts/gm = 50th nationally

UNLV:

423.8 yds/gm = 56th nationally

242.4 pass yds/gm = 51st nationally

181.4 rush yds/gm = 52nd nationally

31.3 pts/gm = 53rd nationally

Pretty even matchup here, with a slight edge to UNLV, especially in the passing game, which is cause for concern with our defense.

Defensive Stats:

North Texas:

18.1 pts/gm = 9th nationally

355.5 yds/gm = 27th nationally

230.4 pass yds/gm = 64th nationally

125.1 rush yds/gm = 18th nationally

UNLV:

31.5 pts/gm = 93rd nationally

436.3 yds/gm = 100th nationally

214.5 pass yds/gm = 32nd nationally

221.8 rush yds/gm = 110th nationally

UNLV has a slightly better pass defense, but the Mean Green defense pretty much blows them out in all other categories. Anyone else think Byrd & Jimmerson are licking their chops to get at this leaky UNLV rush defense? Yikes!

Punt Returns: 14.7 yds/kick = 6th nationally (4 TD)

Kick Return DEF: 20.95 yds/kick = 57th nationally (0 TD)

FG%: 66.7% (Z. Paul: 10/15 - 48yd long)

UNLV:

Kick Returns: 22.7 yds/kick = 40th nationally (0 TD)

Punt Returns: 3.64 yds/kick = 114th nationaly (0 TD)

Kick Return DEF: 22.02 yds/kick = 82nd nationally (1 TD)

FG%: 55.6% (N. Kohorst: 10/18 - 50 yd long)

I think the numbers speak for themselves here... very loudly. Brelan should be looking forward to this matchup very much. UNLV Special Teams is certainly a weak spot.

Intangibles:

UNT:

Turnover Margin: +10 (32 gained / 22 lost) = 15th nationally

Penalties: 6.33/gm = 88th nationally

Record VS bowl-bound teams: 3-3 (Wins over Ball St., MT, & Rice. Losses to Ohio, GA & Tulane)

UNLV:

Turnover Margin: +6 (19 gained / 13 lost) = 29th nationally

Penalties: 3.58/gm = 4th nationally

Record VS bowl-bound teams: 1-3 (Win over SDSU. Losses to Fresno St., SJSU, & UT St.)

Both teams in the black in TOs and UNLV is very disciplined in penalties per game. UNT plays better against good teams.

This is the most craptabulous college band I've ever seen. Any number of High School bands in the area would kick the UNLV Band's ass.

Maybe UNLV can pay the UTA marching band to perform in their place.......or how about the UTSA band?

After SJSU doubled their avg on UNLV Nov2, it looks like UNLV settled down, keeping each of their last 3 teams well below their rushing averages.

Taking a closer look, this may not be quite the advantage we thought it was. I guess we'll just have to wait and see. I think we all know coach McCarney is going to try and run the ball anyway.
