I am taking my 13 year old grandson to Annapolis for our game with Navy on 10/7. Actually I am 80 and he might be taking me. At any rate , what is best way to get there? Fly to Washington, train to Annapolis or rent a car? Will I need a car once I get there? Any motel/hotel suggestions? I took his older brother when he was 15 to our game in West Point against Army about 6 years ago and except for freezing our butts off had a great time. UNT Athletics put a package together to include tickets, air and ground transportation, and hotel. Hopefully they will again but if not I need a little help. Thanks

Yes I am hoping they put together a package for this as well.

I fly to Baltimore quite often, its usually cheaper than flying to DC. Easy shuttle over to the rental car center, then about a 30 minute drive to Annapolis. Several folks posted on another thread about hotels in Annapolis being really expensive that weekend. Might look in the Hanover or Laurel area.

Agree. Like at West Point, probably best to stay somewhere else and come in to Annapolis early to enjoy the city and tour the campus. I enjoyed talking to the Army fans before the game at tailgates, and I would suspect Navy folk are also welcoming.

Want to be at this game as it is my last Academy game to see but Tulane outdoors, $MU and Tulsa will have to suffice this year.

I’ve been to the other two as well but one was windy with intermittent snow and the other chilly with intermittent rain. Hopefully the weather gods do us a solid this time.

I was looking at train options from DC and Baltimore and it looks like there are only bus options. Google has you taking a metro or train from DC to New Carrollton and transferring to a bus. Similar options from Baltimore. Takes nearly two hours from DC. So if you don’t want to rent a car there are options, although not great ones.
If your grandson has never been to the area, I would recommend staying in DC to see the sights and then just going to Annapolis for game day. It’s a very nice town but only a few hours needed to see it. I can recommend the Maryland State House, which briefly served as the US capital. If you are just popping in for the game, then staying in/around Annapolis would be fine and you can tour the Naval Academy as well.

I've stayed in Annapolis a few times for business. It's a great town.

The Graduate Annapolis is a nice hotel downtown on West Street close to good restaurants and bars.

Further out, the Crowne Plaza Annapolis next to Westfield Annapolis Mall was cheaper and pretty nice.

If you stay on West Street, the goat and fig flatbread at Light House Bistro is crazy good. And if you leave without having eaten crab cakes, crab bisque or crabs in the shell you have failed at life.

I live in DC and there are several options on the way to Annapolis.  For example, there is a Casino (for those that gamble) in Hanover, MD (Maryland Live).  It is a 30 min drive to Annapolis.  You can fly into BWI from Love Field on Southwest.    Hotels right now, near BWI, are about $180 per night for the Friday - Sunday of the game.  I am more than happy to help if anyone has any questions.

Also, I am working to get the DC Area UNT alumni to get together for this game.  I sent out an email today to about 100+ alums in the area.  Would be great to have a tailgate also.
