Zac W. #23 It Don't Mean Nuthin

If Zac Whitfield had gotten that ball and ended up in the end-zone we would be erecting a statue of him in Mean Green Village. It didn't work and so no statue this year. Shake it off #23, there are twenty-two guys who play four quarters, there were lot's of other chances to win. Can't wait for more UNT football in the spring, Go Zac W, Go Mean Green !

Agree. I was really upset when it initially happened, as I am sure he was and still is. Bottom line he knew what a lot of us fans know - that was our best chance to put it in the end zone with the game plan we called. Can't fault him for trying to make a play.

I feel bad for Zac, you're either the hero or the goat in that situation. I've known the Whitfields for years & I can tell you there's nobody that feels worse right now than Zac Whitfield.

I blame him. He took a risk that put our last chance on the line and blew it.

I don't blame him for trying. I blame him for not being successful. And if I were him, I would say the same thing.

It was a dumb move and I don't think he would have scored even if he scooped it cleanly as there were too many UTSA players around him. I like the effort, just a poor decision. Things happen and that was not the sole reason we lost the game (only FGs from two muffed punt recoveries stand out in particular). It stands out more simply because of where it occurred during the game.

Fitting end to the season. It really stunk and was sad. We win as a team and lose as a team.

Use that disappointment as rocket fuel for the journey back to the top.

He had a front row seat all season to Mac ball and McNulty leading our offense. Surely he knew, like we all did, that simply giving our offense the ba wasn't going to result in points. It was 't the smart thing that he did, but I can see the reasoning.

I have no problem with his decision. That's what he watched Brelan do and he saw the opportunity to make a play.

I have no problems with the decision, either. If he had handled that cleanly, he was going to get a good chunk of yardage. Honestly, even as that ball was taking a North Texas bounce (before he mishandled the ball), I really didn't have much confidence that the offense was going to score six. Zac wanted to win and I see his reasoning for making a risky decision. He'll learn from it, and most likely won't ever make the mistake again.

How many times have we hear Mac say "Make a play"?

In a "normal" situation, advancing this ball would have been wrong.

But this isn't normal. We have a bad QB/offense and ZW knows it.

Completely agree.
Zach tried to make a play. He didn't execute well.
Looked like Perry talked to him and was on the same page.
On the broadcast, it looked like Mac was pissed at Zach & coach Perry had to come over and explain/calm him down. I certainly hope McCarney didn't make him a goat in the lockerroom.

What matters most is if he learned from his mistake. If we're down and the ball is bouncing around back at the 15 and he thinks he can catch them off guard and take it up field, then fine.

But if our defense finally gets a stop and the punter shanks it and the ball is taking a North Texas hop towards the 50, then leave it alone. That ball might have rolled to their 45 but we'll never know.

Learn from this and move on.

I never heard the term "scoop and score" until Coach Mac got here. Like Meangreenacct I was upset at the time, but had an odd shaped ball bounced our way, we'd be falling over ourselves to congratulate Zac for a gutsy move. It was perhaps the proper signature to end this season.

Just wait 'til next year.
