I don't understand why NIL collectives aren't putting athletes in billboards and other ads. It would make the process look less like a farce if they found companies and products willing to be promoted as part of the NIL deals they are putting together.

wondered that too...

or show up for 30 minutes and sign a few autographs. "Hey 5 star recruit, One of the guys in this collective  owns a car dealership or real estate office or -insert business here-"....show up tomorrow afternoon from 2:00 to 2:30 pm for autographs and here's a $1 million and a car. NIL requirement met.

Only a fool would be so naïve as to to think NIL has legalized cheating.  Every program that's actually trying to win has been skirting (or outright ignoring) rules for decades.

      Congrats to those programs! There is no reason for us to be playing an FCS opponent. It's an expected win and false accomplishment or a huge PR hit with a loss. It should be like in basketball, a preseason exhibition game only. If it's used for schedule balancing then someone messed up the schedule years earlier. As a regular season home game it diminishes the value of a season ticket. It artificially inflates the win column to try and achieve Lame-Bowl eligibility.

      My take is a bit different. Not disagreeing with NT having poor financial support is an issue, but I do think this has a lot more to do with outside forces than it does NT. One factor, that is rarely mentioned is that NT's early integration played a substantial role in NT not being in a Texas conference . Being in the MVC certainly didn't help create fans as the SWC ruled the state and did everything they could to maintain that status. This may be ancient history, but I believe the effect still lingers. Students that wanted a rah rah sports oriented school did not pick NT if they had other options College student support is now becoming more equal not because of NT's progress, but now most students are just not as interested as in the past in college sports. Teams are propped up by rich alums that grew up when college sports were much more popular. This audience will fade away. College sports has thus far survived NIL, title 9 and other government intervention; but at some point unless massive changes are made, it will not in the future.
