Wolf At The Door?

As written last week, Tech may have their hand forced re: the future of Hairgel Hands.  Local media has fallen out of love with him, and Jones/AT&T began to empty out in the 3rd quarter of the West Virginia's slaughter of his squad.

So...

...the only "winnable game" left on Hairgel's schedule is Iowa State, although they've played some of their opponents tough this year.  As low as the intelligence quotient is for the average San Aggie, even they are recognizing the stark reality that their beloved alma mater is paying $3.5 million for a 3-9 or 4-8 season.

If the bottom does totally fall out and the Sand Ag Sod Busters come up with enough scratch to buy out Hairgel Hands - and Seth delivers a bowl season to us...?

Are there donors for us willing to step up and keep Littrell when the Sand Aggie AD, a former OU associate athletic director while Littrell was still playing there, calls him up and throws Big 12-type cash offers to him?

It's a problem.

Cheer loud and long for Hairgel Hands to find a way to turn around the Sand Aggies' season.

Not worried.  Tech still believes they are actually relevant and they'll look for more "splash" with the hire.

Yeah, I kind of factored in the unrealistic bent of the average Tech supporter.  But, I think the whipping West Virginia gave them was a huge wake up call.  It managed to wake up their little media up there.

If OU waltzes over to Lubbock this weekend and kicks the sh*t out of them the way West Virginia did - and, with the walk-on QB Hairgel Hands specifically declined to offer a scholarship to boot - they may start saving some money from the cotton harvest to rid themselves of the sticky handed city slicker, thinking How Many More Times do we have to see this sh*t go down.

As far as splash...I think they'd be happy to have a Spike Dykes/Tommy Tuberville-type guy that can at least put up winning records in conference.  No reason to think Littrell couldn't do it there if he does it here in just one season.

I would not put Briles past the Oil baron mega-boosters out there in Lubbock.   Great fit as both are filthy.

Briles will be the HC at Auburn or LSU next season.  Rumors are both have contacted him multiple times.

If Littrell finishes the season at .500 or better, he'll definitely get looks.  We were absolutely terrible last year and that big a turnaround will not go unnoticed.  Especially since he's an offensive coach whose biggest improvement here has been our defense.  I guarantee that resonates with any  tech fan who is sick of watching the worst defense in the country every week.

TFFL may be partially or even mostly crazy, but I agree with him here.  It'll be a reach, but maybe not as big a reach as some think.

Not a difficult leap.  Tech AD and Littrell were both at OU Littrell's final two year, then Littrell coached at Tech a few seasons.  He's familiar with the Big 12, having played and coached in it.

But, look at the picture closer.  If the defense keeps improving, schools up the ladder will be taking long looks at Ekeler and Reffet.  So, we could go 6-6, make a bowl, sweat out teams looking over at Littrell, but still lose a defensive co-coordinator...or two.

So, again, do we have the donors/boosters who can help us keep head coaches and assistants?  If Tech is paying Hairgel Hands $3.5 million a year, that's a lot of money to turn down.  After four seasons, he hasn't come close to improving the Sand Ags.

Don't know what Tech's defensive coordinator makes, but if Hairgel Hands does somehow survive another losing season, he'll surely be in the market for a new defensive coordinator.

With Ekeler, you're looking at a guy who has been at OU, LSU, and Nebraska.  If we have a winning season, he's also going to get looks because he's a known entity anyway by P5 programs and delivering results in short order.

Personally, I think Dykes' son and even Todd Graham get calls from Tech.  But, if they stay put, then you're looking at Littrell's agent fielding calls.  Graham earns less than Hairgel Hands.  At minimum, Graham would use the threat of leaving as leverage for a raise.

One season and not a full year of recruiting would hold Seth back. My biggest concern in the off season would be loosing Ek!
