Minnesota head coach Jerry Kill announced Wednesday that he is retiring, effective immediately, due to medical concerns. Kill steps away from college football with a career record of 156-102.

The 54-year-old coach has dealt with epilepsy, suffering multiple seizures while on the sidelines during games. It's unclear whether his retirement is directly related to that condition.

Kill went 29-29 in his five years at Minnesota, twice improving the Gophers to 8-5 records. His team was off to a 4-3 start this season and hosts No. 15 Michigan this Saturday.

Defensive coordinator and associate head coach Tracy Claeys takes over, a role he filled for Kill at Southern Illinois and at Minnesota. In 2013, Kill took an extended leave of absence, during which Claeys team went 4-4.

Sorry for coach Kill, but this is not good for UNT as it pushes us down another place-card on the open HC job list.

In the 2013 season there were 25 new HFC in FBS.

Churn is the name of the game.

Pfft.  Stay with the narrative, man!  For every position that opens, our prospects get shittier and shittier! Position opens up at Liberty Christian in Argyle?  Oh dear us!  That's ANOTHER coach we're not getting!  Coach retires from Hedrick Middle School in Lewisville?  Dammit!  We list another prospect!  Clerk quits at Glazed Donut Works in Deep Ellum? Well, now we're in deep shit!

This just in! UNT moved another notch down on the coach-hiring pole when The Chicken Ranch in LaGrange fired its piano player. Applicants must understand exes and ohhhhhs!

Minnesota: Interim head coach Tracy Claeys has been elevated to head coach and will sign a three-year deal. Under this new agreement, Claeys is set to make $1.4 million next year, with $100,000 raises each of the next two seasons.

"The move is a big one for the sake of continuity, as most of the staff has been together for decades under Jerry Kill, and the program has made huge strides under Kill and his staff leading up his resignation a few weeks ago. Claeys himself spent 21 years as an assistant under Kill."
