  1. The mens basketball team is off to its best start in conference play in program history. They are not getting enough attention, we need to be promoting the home game Thursday vs. Charlotte to anyone and everyone I hope this thread is not moved. North Texas: 16-9 (10-2) vs Charlotte: 14-9 (8-4) is a pivotal game in the CUSA championship race. I have not made it to a game this year admittedly because of the ease of watching on ESPN+ but I have made plans to be there Thursday. There are only six games left in the season four of which are at home, if you're like me and you have not made it to a game this year, now is the time. WE ARE ***KING BACK FOLKS WE ARE 10-2 IN CONFERENCE PLAY LETS SHOW THIS TEAM THE SUPPORT THEY DESERVE PACK THE PIT!!!!!

  2. I am more in favor of giving Apogee appreciation for their support, than trying to break a contract. I doubt there are a lot of entities willing to spend millions for naming rights of a G5 stadium.

  3. One of our greatest and longest-suffering fans on GMG.com could use some positive thoughts and prayers from us today. Jack Fincher, aka @GrayEagle had to have surgery and is recovering.. I’m hoping and praying for a quick recovery Mr. Fincher.. Hope to see you back in the Ap soon. Rick

  4. Bussey's behavior and the way this has unfolded suggests there is a broken relationship with the coaches or, for whatever reason, he has lost his bond with the teammates. Let's move on.

  9. On that note, in 85-86 Judy Nelson's women's basketball team went to a tournament[I think it was NCAA] At any rate the Athletic Department had no money to purchase a banner to hang in the Supper Pit in their honor and asked me for $500, which I gladly gave. I am 77, and just don't think many of you younger alumni realize what a shoestring operation our Athletic Department was for not years, but decades.

  10. Apogee has been great too from a branding perspective. The local media can even easily say it with ease and confidence. It’s short sweet and not “taco town stadium” or investment analysis field or something whack like that. gmg

  11. Agree with both. Plus there are naming rights on just about everything. For example, the field. So you could have Toyota Field at Apogee Stadium.

  14. Some would argue this is what’s happening at UConn right now - their roster has basically evaporated due to the changes in conference affiliation. But, I mean, it’s their own fault. Stanford is running into a unique problem- due to the difficulty of getting into their graduate schools kids who graduate with playing time remaining are leaving early. To his credit David Shaw has recommended they move on to a master’s program, and as a result they’ve got something like 15 kids transferring this year.

  16. Right. (Stoops OC and Fry player, too, for the 1985 #1 ranked Iowa team). Point is, he likes to chuck it. Pun motherloving intended. Passing is better than running. Play action is better than running. Don't get me wrong, smashmouth football gets me up in the morning, in that special way. But passing wins games, and both Mumme and Long are aware.

  17. Jones and his team are going for the national high school record for consecutive 100-point games. Would break their own record set I believe 9 years ago. Kind of a shame it’s so hard to find individual stats on this team.

  18. It was near the bottom. We were only a few years removed from the Southland (FCS). People sure give RV a hard time but he absolutely raised the bar for us. Here is how bad it was when RV got here: Fouts Field was absolutely the worst stadium in FBS football. They had to bring in generators to handle the electrical needs for a game. If you had front row seats on the 50 yard line you were a good 35 yards from the field. Those seats were too bad to sit in of course because they were low and the field had a crown. All you could see was the players asses. People were trying to think up ways to improve Fouts (not demolish it which was the right answer) back then. True story...in the 7 OT game against FIU I just couldn't hold it any longer and went to visit the pee wall. In comes a player with the same issue. Also opposing teams headsets would routinely malfunction so our coaches would have to take off their headsets. Strength and Conditioning - What S&C? I know there was one but I honestly don't know where athletes worked out before the athletic center was built. Someone please inform me. Our current plan is to greatly expand the athletic center that we have identified as an area to improve. So before the current athletic center was built which was a giant leap forward, athletes did strength training wherever the heck that was. Meeting space - I remember we had a "big donation" of $100,000 to renovate some space in the bowels of Fouts. That was a big leap forward at the time. No, I'm not kidding. Sports Medicine - Please see strength and conditioning above. Practice Fields - I think there were 2(?) fields where the parking lot is between Fouts and Traditions Hall. It was surrounded by chain link fence. Academic Center - I don't know where that was either, I just don't know if there was some space dedicated to that or not or how many people we had dedicated to that endevor. Coaching salaries -- Near the bottom of the Sun Belt when we joined. We were at or near the top when we left. Uniforms - some programs would have to fundraise to buy their own uniforms. Sports Nutrition - I almost forgot this one. There was none. Yeah, things were bad.

  21. The facility is beautiful, its a sign of the the university's commitment to athletic excellence to all that see it from the interstate, and it advertises the program to millions every day when it is shown during weather reports from Denton. It is already showing as being incredibly beneficial in recruiting and should remain so for decades. Thank you McNatt and Lovelace families.

  28. We have by far the strongest resume in CUSA. Here is the data line in order. The reality is the entire league has 1 Q1 win (La Tech at Miss St). We've played by far the most Q1+Q2 games and have the most Q1+Q2 wins. We played 9. ODU had 8. No one else had more than 7. We have the best Q2 record in the league. To put in perspective, the Big 12 has 3 teams with winning Q1 records in Baylor (9-0), Kansas(10-3) and West Virginia(5-3). After that, they don't fare much better Oklahoma (3-7), Texas Tech (3-7), Texas (2-8). Interestingly enough, if we moved up from 89 to 75 in Net Score, we'd be a Q1 win for Oklahoma. 31. Nit saying the students use email a lot but that is how the university sends information like closings, registration reminders, ECT. I have 2 daughters at UNT and they get the school messages. Just a thought. Students probably know when we have games, just not motivated enough to attend.

  33. If I recall correctly it is not all cash, but a lot of "in kind". That is not necessarily all that attractive. That said, changing it only makes sense if there is a suitor that is willing to pay enough for it to be worth it to buy em out.

  34. Since 1913 we have had 3 coaches with winning records.According to UNT "All Time Results",Fouts was 23-14-2, Mitchell 122-85-9, and Fry 40-23-3.We have not had a coach with a winning record since Fry left for Iowa in 1978.

  42. Cisco Catson is listed on the (Austin) American-Statesman 2021 Fabulous 55. This is the first time I have ever seen UNT listed next to a player on the Fab 55 list. Most programs listed are P5, with an occasional smut or U Of H listed with a player's name.

  43. In one of the most bizarre coaching decisions ever, Rubin was literally playing on one leg during a key stretch of their State Semi-final loss this past year to Oak Cliff Faith Family. Clearly not effective, coach Wise kept him in the game; which didn’t help their chances late. Could be a good pickup but is a bit erratic with good skill sets and length.
