One of the assistants told a group of us at the spring game that we were purposefully waiting on after everyone's spring to go after some defensive linemen in the portal.  They didn't want us to tell anyone as they feared some other teams may also try that but I think the cat is probably out of the bag at this point.

What's the rationale behind waiting until after spring to get defensive linemen in the portal vs. going after more in the previous portal window?

With how the roster was constructed by spring time, the coaches had to be banking on some scholarship guys entering the portal so they could grab defensive lineman and fill other holes from spring evals. Seems to be part of the plan, but we will see how it pays off.
