Yes.  I believe he was still working at UNLV but had already been hired and publicly announced by UNT.  He was staying loyal to those paying the bills at the time while entertaining the new bosses too.  In this pic, he is also wearing lapel pins from each school.

He sat in the middle of UNT fans at that game....rooting for NT

It depends on how you look at it.   Schools Smatresk presides over are 0-1 in the HoD when he's wearing that tie.  Keep in mind that he was still the President of UNLV at the time.
