  1. Team looked good, hot dogs were great and Shorter is a man child! The most impressive was the Maroon mini van that drove up to me in the parking lot. They were an Asian family that had driven 20hrs from California looking for Russell Hall. They were checking their son in. The parents were in the front not being able to really speak English and their son and aunt were in the back. As I'm visiting with the son the other family members are just beaming with pride and excitement. Very impressive that UNT is attracting a student from the LA area, but really amazing is the family driving the 20hrs and then 20hrs going back to share this moment with their son. He is the first generation going to college! Shout out to all the family members and friends that got the child to the college level! GMG

  6. Realignment is inevitable. When TV contracts, specifically LHN, expire programs and conferences will see a shift. The first domino to fall is almost guaranteed to be LHN negotiations. We have 4, maybe 5 football seasons to completely change the perception of our program to best position ourselves. It can be done. And we are currently on the perfect trajectory.

  9. I think it will be the largest attended game in school history. Dare I say 500 butts short of a sellout? I think the program is out of the "show me" phase unless of course there is a setback this season. We are more in the"let's go see it phase." The excitement of football being back is a draw. The opponent is a draw. And for the folks that get their rocks off from fake fighting is another draw. Give me 30k and change.

  11. See this right here...this is the whole point. Sure, the competition was sub-par at best, but that is not the point. This team got several extra practices (coupled with the extra practice for the CBI tourney) and several extra games (coupled with the extra CBI games) to help the team mesh as a team earlier and to gain valuable game and practice experience. This trip along with the CBI should set the team up to start this coming season on a high note ready to go from day one. I think folks should seriously consider getting their season tickets as soon as they can as this season has the "makings" of one fun season. Cannot wait to see this team in action. I know several folks here on GMG.Com dropped their season tickets during the Benford years, but, if they remain UNT fans and basketball fans at all, the time is right to think about "coming home" and being part of this. Students are beginning to trickle back in, which always makes for a better game day experience, and the coaching staff is working hard to re-gain fans loyalty. Just think about it. I realize that once one "gets out of the habit of doing something" it is very hard to re-engage in that "something", but this team and this season might just be worth the effort. Can't hurt to at least think about it. A couple of long time fans who "went away" came back last season and bought season tickets again after a few years absent. Their presence was certainly noted and they helped make a positive impact by the fans on the coaching staff and the team. And, I would hazard a strong guess, that they are very pleased that they did return.

  16. 6 days until Rice kicks off the season for C-USA. Everyone thinks their team is better than “insert rival here”. Let’s see how everyone sees the current power ranking of C-USA. Here’s what I think: 1) FAU 2) UNT 3) Marshall 4) UAB 5) LA Tech 6) MTSU 7) ODU 8) UTSA 9) FIU 10) Southern Miss 11) Western Kentucky 12) Rice 13) UTEP 14) Charlotte The first grouping is the schools who I think can win C-USA. The second grouping is the schools who I think can make it to the title game, but would likely lose to whoever comes from the other side. The third grouping is the schools who can have a good season, but won’t make it to the championship game. The fourth grouping is the schools who are just trying to make it through the season healthy. They won’t make it to a bowl game, but they can get some experience this year and grow.

  18. I know we get tired of this subject, but 247 posted an article May 30th with an entirely new twist. When the P5 conference contracts expire 2023-2025 realignment will be decided by tech companies like Amazon, not ESPN. They have a lot more money, and will contract with the top 30 to 40 schools regardless of present conference affiliation. Texas and Oklahoma are in, the rest of the Big 12 are out. Its an interesting concept. To read entire article google "college conference realignment.

  19. OU will not leave OSU. Or OSU will not let OU leave them behind. WVU will get plucked by someone on the East coast, and the expansion of other conferences will then follow suit. KU will get picked up on the basis of basketball only, probably by the Big10. The SEC has been in talks of reorganizing their divisions to better suit travel schedules per geographic sense. Mizzou will soon enough be in the SEC West, other things will have to play into that for it to happen. In this, look for realignment version, look for 'P5' conferences to contemplate cutting dead weight as well. Somewhere, someone is going to get plucked and invited. KState, ISU, Tech, and Baylor are toast to me. I think TCU very well falls into this camp as well. Their numbers and TV pull just really isn't there. The plan for UNT should be to hitch the wagon to the Big12 rejects. That should be the absolute goal moving forward. And a 5 year plan should be put in place for just this, yesterday.

  20. 1) FAU 2) Marshall 3) La Tech 4) UNT 5) UAB 6) MTSU 7) USM 😎 WKU 9) FIU 10) UTSA 11) ODU 12) RICE 13) Charlotte 14) UTEP FAU was in a class by themselves last season. I know they lost a few key guys. But, they are still loaded. La Tech, NT and UAB are going to be in for a dogfight. Any of these teams could take the west.

  24. I received a silver MGSF license plate frame. Pretty good quality. I have a similar style all green metal one on one of my vehicles. I'll put it on my Wagoneer maybe. If I was to nitpick, I'd wonder why there was no green in sight on the plate frame.

  25. Clearly it's a different style of basketball and lesser competition from a talent standpoint but it's great to see the squad taking full advantage of their chance to build on-court chemistry while facing completely unfamiliar settings/circumstances. Much like the CBI Tournament last year, I see no reason why this isn't great for the growth of the program. With Wren's background, I've always been confident in his ability to oversee a turnaround for MBB and the progress they've made in the last 14 months is incredible.

  26. Just have to look at is, a natural grass field with a Kelly Green painted end zone. It doesn’t look bad in person. In fact I think it looks pretty dang good and the shadowed Texas at midfield is a nice touch as well. It’s noticeable but doesn’t jump off the field at you

  29. SIDE NOTE: 30 minutes before kickoff the stadium manager told me that they could not get the lights to come on at Fouts Field. Luckily, they finally came on...I've always wondered what would have happened if we could not get the lights to come on. It was a locally televised game, too. Would we have had to forfeit? Who knows?

  31. 21 - 24k. Labor Day weekend may have folks out of town, and I assume a shellacking in the NO Bowl still has most on-the-fence fans in "show me" mode. Still, it should be closer to the 24k number than the 21k though.

  35. Huh? It is convenient of you to cut off the first line of this quote: "“We need to constantly show that we are not adding our own bias, which I fully admit is more left-leaning,” He is clearly saying there is NOT a bias or double standard. That they need to more actively show how their left leaning employee tendencies are not being added to their business practice. Is that really hard to understand?

  38. UNT golf alumnus Sebastian Munoz finished tied for 6th on the web.com tour this weekend. It was his sixth top 20 result in the last seven tournaments. It could have been even better, as he had a couple of day two leads the last three weeks. More importantly, it sent his seasonal winnings above 160k, and the last few seasons that was always good enough to make the top 25 of the web.com tour rankings, which in turn gives you a PGA tour card the next year. With how well he has been playing, it is hard to imagine he would not do decent at the PGA level, which would be good exposure for UNT golf. The two other UNT alumni on the web.com tour: Carlos Ortiz hasn't played the last three weeks (not sure if he is injured or just taking a break). He is still very much in the running for a card though, having made 120k so far this year, currently ranked 21st. At the very worst he'll have another Web.com tour card next year. Rodolfo Cazaubon, on the other hand, might not. He is on a streak of 7 missed cuts in a row and is currently 128th in the money list at 11k. You gotta be 75th to be assured a web.com final spot and a tour card for the next season, although 85th will still give you start opportunities.
