  2. The roster format has been updated. It now shows the players in # order, includes a picture of them, & just looks cleaner over the old format. Check it out https://meangreensports.com/roster.aspx?path=football

  4. Not crazy about the idea of 4 smaller screens instead of the one large one we have now... Let's be honest, I hate it. Right now everyone is dialed in on the big screen and it creates excitement. I feel like 4 smaller screens just dials back the hype during the games.

  6. Except it isn't the NCAA that is paying COA, it is the university. And while the NCAA makes a great deal of money in average, the median G5 program has to subsidize sports because it all accumulates at the biggest programs like Texas and Alabama. For most programs like UNT the value a student-athlete provided to the university actually is pretty nebulous and hard to quantify. UNT has been subsidizing athletics, so it has not directly made money. That said it has likely made those subsidies because there is value to the culture and advertising athletics brings, but quantification of that in dollars ought to be described as highly inexact at best. In other words -particularly for a public university like UNT - the value a student-athlete brings is NOT a dollar amount, in the same way, the value of your education isn't a dollar amount. In fact, whether it is a profitable enterprise for the UNTs of the world is legitimately debatable. On this board, most will readily agree that the value of athletics to the university far outpaces what it puts in. However, you can easily find a few pretty well-educated folks outside of athletics who will opine that it is a monetary loser for UNT to have a football team.

  9. I ended up getting the Touchdown Terrace tickets because it was better deal for me. I told them that I rarely sit down during the games. I kind of walk back and forth in the stadium as the ball is moving up and down the field. The location of the seats would have you baking in the sun on hot days. They are great seats when the ball is in that part of the field. When the ball goes to the other side, you won't have a very good view of what is happening down there. So, I would say if you like to use your seats during the game, I would not get them. If you walk like me, then it is worth it because you still have access to the club level and you can always sit in the silver chairs outside if you want to get out of the sun. As far as cost, they are $1000 each. For that you get club access, parking pass, and your seat. That price includes the donation to the Mean Green scholarship fund. You also get access to the club level for events outside of Mean Green football if the club level is open. Again if you like to sit during the game, I would suggest spending the extra money to stay out of the sun. I hope this helps everyone.

  10. Here is what happened to higher education. Many elected officials wanted to bring "market" concepts to higher ed. The real motivation for some was adherence to principle, others expected students would punish those loud mouth liberal professors by going elsewhere and some wanted to just find a way to funnel government money to religious institutions. So money was put in student hands with scholarships, grants and loans. Students are generally ill equipped to assess if a school offers a good education but they are able to determine if they have to walk down the hall to take a dump or get an apartment like experience in a dorm, they can determine whether is a nice workout center and what fast food they can buy at the student union, and see whether or not there is good, fast, stable wifi or a an entertaining athletic department. So schools divert resources to amenities to attract students and compete in the market. Those have to be paid for and the student is now less price sensitive thanks to the funds in hands. So tuition and fees rise to pay for things that have nothing to do with educating. The government outlay really hasn't changed in most states or grown slowly all that changed was who got the money first.

  12. I don't know how or where that all started, but I have absolutely seen both of my alma maters go from cozily spartan living conditions to everything at or above Hilton hotel levels. I still don't think that is what college should be nor do I think that is what parents or students should demand -- it is against their own best interest, and it sets up students for false expectations on standard of living when they get out and find themselves forced into renting a crappy 2-bedroom apartment with cockroaches and three roommates for the first couple years as they enter their chosen field. But it's there. And I'll circle back to my original theories -- how would any of that have even begun without a massive influx of student debt funding? Is this a financial chicken and egg?

  14. There are plenty of reliable studies that establish the long term monetary value of a higher education degree vs high school diploma. Obviously it is a wide range, but you can choose to be as conservative or liberal as you want to be with estimates, but they all end up in the same spot. Your ceiling for earnings on average is much higher with a college degree than with a high school degree.

  15. From what I was told, the original plan was to put the larger scoreboard/video screen in the north end zone. However, noise and light complaints from Denia forced them to put it in the south end zone facing north. Putting it on top of the AC wasn't feasible for a lot of reasons, so it was put right in front of what would have been the touchdown terrace. I think there are now plans being evaluated to somehow move that scoreboard/video screen, add another one so all of stadium has one to view and finish a build out of what was planned to be a touchdown terrace by extending it out.

  16. It's pretty odd to give a "coaching position" to a Sophomore undergrad, no? I am confused by this move. Is it really a coaching position? Or some internship/unpaid thing? I don't think I've ever seen this before.

  19. Don't disagree with the fact that people are mostly watching the action on the field, I do as well. I still think the jumbotron is a big focal point during the games and it doesn't change my opinion. 4 smaller screens is a terrible idea. Sticking with that.

  24. I agree. I was just showing what the original plan was, which was later scrapped. The pic is from before the stadium was built. The scuttlebutt I’ve heard for the future was the scoreboards in the four corners.

  34. It's the revival of the Fouts Field endzone tent city! Would be good for one game -- or maybe only one half of that one game a year where the weather is neither blistering hot nor cold and rainy. I like their ambition on trying to create game day appeal.

  36. Truth be told, we don't deserve that "respect" currently after the two beat downs (and I mean beat downs) we took from FAU. FAU deserves the attention with the season they had last year. The Troy loss didn't help either. Hate to admit it but it's true. Thankfully, we'll have a chance to rectify this situation in the near future. Go UNT!

  41. In a very simplified painting with enormously wide strokes world view: 1) The national sport of Texas residents in annual property tax protests keeps increases in revenues limited. 2) The easy credit rip-offs of student loans for anybody and everybody incentivizes universities to raise expenses and costs exponentially (in Texas, this is probably the greater influence. In other states, I'd argue for #1)

  43. I heard the plan was to put the scoreboard on top of the Athletic Center but it was going to cost a ton of money to add the infrastructure to support the weight of the scoreboard so it was moved to where it is today.

  45. I guess this is a case of UNT simply having too many talented QBs to give proper reps to, and likely giving it straight to one of them, and asking what they could do for him. Wouldn't be surprised if they offered a position move first. Since he wanted to get into coaching, this was a logical move. Don't know if there is any money in being an undergrad assistant coach (if there is it won't be much), but I would guess that you still at least get to travel with the team a bit, and indeed do get to learn the coaching ropes quite a bit.

  46. UNT, Rice, UTSA and UTEP all need to join the Mountain West in an eastern division with New Mexico, Air Force, Colorado State and Wyoming. If not a revamped AAC. Winning games in all sports is our only way up. BEAT SMUt and Arkansas and then Fla Atl at home. Go Eagles!!!!!!!
