In Two and a half weeks recruiting takes off in full speed. I believe by NSD we end up with a Top Six C-USA Recruiting class. Just a gut feeling I have. I know I have been harsh on the staff and there recruiting so far this 2017 class. But the more I talk to people and gather info. The better I am feeling about this classes potential.

Kody Fulp, a linebacker at China Spring decommitted from UL-M last night and has reopened his recruitment. He had just received an offer from North Texas. The line of Cougar defensive stars possibly continuing at North Texas.

Meh, I would be willing to bet of those 34 less than 6 are his fault and that is as a TRUE freshman QB. Going from Small School OK ball to D1 football. I'll take the few bumps he'll have for 3 years of really fun football to watch.

Had to go there. Fact: All logs placed on the Aggie Bonfire are done so by human muscle power. The weight of logs being hoisted by block and tackle attached to the Center Pole is what cracked it in 1999 causing it to collapse. Built four of them in my day. Never saw a log placed by a crane. Anyone can stack pallets.

Kinda showing my age here, and I don't consider myself old, but it wigs me out that a college team rolling out 350-ish yards and 25 points/game is last in their conference offensive rankings. I used to watch a ton of slugfest football where the winner scored about 17 points and anything more than 20 points was a really good day.

Listed as 5'10", not sure if he's that tall but very fast, Ran a 10.8 100 meters at the state meet last year, He posted on twitter below that he was hand timed at 4.31 40 at the Texas Tech camp last summer. No, I haven't seen a CS varsity game in three years because I referee on Friday nights so I haven't seen him play in person. But I do know him. He is big. He is fast and hits like a Mack truck. Air Raid offenses are set up to get playmakers in one on one matchups that they can explode for long gains. See Goree touchdown from last week. Perfect example of what plays in the Air Raid is supposed to do. All the huge Buyers plays and the swing passes to Jeff Wilson. We just don't have enough of them or have consistency in producing those plays. We need better playmakers.

Mason Fine has answered any questions on toughness. He leads the NCAA for being sacked with a total of 34 times and counting. More protection .............please!!!

A Hearty Amen, GMG24! Like many of you, we've seen many non-Mason Fine types (or projects) the last 4 to 5 decades who helped us have not too many winning seasons during that span of time. Mason Fine is a breath of fresh air as a true freshman. We probably wouldn't have 4 wins without him truth be told. Yes, he has some tweaking to do, but (after all) he is a true freshman. GMG!

When 1/3 of stadium is empty for homecoming it just shows that we have work to do. Winning cures a lot of ills, but not necessarily attendance.[refer to 2013] . I am hopeful that moving forward our A.D. will have more promotions, we will win more games, and generate new fans. We have a core of about 15,000 who support the program annually. We just need to figure out how to double that figure.I expect this to be accomplished in the next 5 years, as at 73 I am running out of time , money, and patience.

He should be a good player for us somewhere but not a quarterback. The QBs Harrell and Littrell are bringing in are good enough where you don't have to bother with putting Dillman at qb. Looking at both Dillman's and Fine's high school tapes, Fine looks like a quarterback, while Dillman looks like a physical specimen playing quarterback. His technique isn't close to Fine's and I think size was why he was ever a 4 or 5 star qb. Don't think for a second that if Dillman was truly a P5 caliber qb that John Walsh wouldn't have found him a home on a big 12 team.

The consistent gold standard for a progressing G5 program is to sign double digit composite 3* recruits on NSD. It's what all the model G5's pull in on a consistent basis such as Boise, SDSU, CSU, UH, Navy, Toledo*, USM, La Tech, *NIU, etc. *Some years

Tulsa is on the other side of the state from where he is. Per Google Maps, he is a little over 3 hours from Tulsa but 2 hours and 40 minutes from Denton. We're closer. Win the battle. Edit: 204 miles between Cache and Tulsa. 162 miles between Cache and Denton.

Vic Trilli and Tony Benford are/were great recruiters for UNT in Basketball. Todd Dodge was a great recruiter for UNT in football. Trilli and Dodge oversaw the worst periods in their respective sports at UNT and Benford is about to get run out of town. Recruiting is important but you HAVE to be able to coach those players.

They knew about Todd Dodge back in 2008. That's what got us that class. I once spoke to the head coach at Daingerfield HS back in the Dodge days. He said that most of the coaches he knew felt like Dodge was leaving the premier job in the state to go to a place that was, in their minds, a last resort. I asked him why he and they felt that way about UNT--his exact answer was that everyone knew that winning at football wasn't the priority, at least back then--that was 7-8 years ago. I asked him how he steered kids to make decisions on where to go and he always asked the kid what they wanted to do with their life (i.e. Major choice, where to settle down, etc...) and how important would it be to play for a winner. Because he felt that if playing time was all you were offering, that wasn't a good sign for signing up to be a part of a winner. Granted, this was also when we played at Fouts in the SBC, so very little was appealing to our situation as compared to today. Look, we play in a great stadium, in a better conference setup, in a college town, and have solid academics. You tell me why our recruiting sucks every year compared to others in the state with a similar position in CFB--because that conversation with the HS coach i mentioned above still sticks with me after all these years. Just like with fans, it's gonna take a special coach to build something up here that will attract the attention of recruits who normally wouldn't and haven't given us the time of day when comparing offers from other similar FBS schools. I think about the way Johnny Jones built up our hoops program. He focused on building up talent from HS, but he got high end talent in transfers to come back to the Metroplex, combining to get us into the NCAAs. Eventually, before we killed the program by hiring Benford, JJ got some really solid HS kids to come here. That's what I'm hoping Seth Littrell will follow here with out football team.

And to add to that, the idea that it doesn't matter if our signees don't have any other offers as long as Littrell thinks they can play and they fit our system is flawed, similarly. The other coaches are recruiting to their system as well. And the other coaches are good evaluators as well. There is no shortcut from winning recruiting battles for players other teams want.

I think student attendance might have been under counted. About 10 minutes prior to kickoff there was one of the longer lines I recall at the gate on the student side. The AD staff was handing out paper vouchers to quickly get students into the game prior to kickoff. Kudos to the staff for recognizing the importance of getting the students in quickly even if it skewed the official attendance. I overheard two very high level members of the AD talking about how one of their staff members did a good job of getting the students in quickly.

I've said this for a while and I do believe Seth Littrell is the one guy who could change this perception, but right now, the biggest problem we have with fans and with TX HS coaches and parents is the fact that losing has gone on for so long and been tolerated by the university, it takes a long time to change the views that have prevailed for so long. We got 21k for a Homecoming game, at Apogee, against a good name team in Louisiana Tech (not playing at Fouts against Louisiana-Monroe). While a solid number compared to our historical attendance, it just hits on far behind we are in terms of getting interest turned toward the program beyond the diehards. Now, the good news is that we have the opportunity to gain the interest and attention of alumni, students, and local citizenry--but its hard because too many of those people don't consider UNT, even if is their school or alma mater, as their primary team. Littrell has a very bright future as a coach, obviously. If he can't get recruits here that lift us above 100 on the recruiting lists, it speaks more to the institutional issues that have been allowed for so long. Believe it or not, people do know when you let a terrible AD stay in place for 15 years that winning isn't a priority. But if he can pull this off and start getting recruits that have solid FBS offers to still come here and turn them into a winner, the sky is the limit here for our program.

Sure thing! The thing about high school kids is they really are blank canvases, so to speak. For us who have followed the team for any length of time, we know the history but high school kids typically do not. Unless their parents went to North Texas, they really have no concept of us or any CUSA program, for that matter. They most likely grew up watching the games on CBS, ABC, and ESPN which we don't play on (ESPN3/360 doesn't count). Also, we try to forget the Dodge years and feel like it is a black cloud on this program that will linger forever. But for recruiting, it never happened! Not because of how hard we try to forget about it, but because the current HS seniors were in 6th grade the last time Todd Dodge coached a game for North Texas. They were born in late 1998 or early 1999. They don't know about the Dodge era. They definitely don't know about before then, and unless Mccarney offered them before he was fired, they most likely don't know who Dan Mccarney is. Like I said, these kids are blank canvases. They know what the coach recruiting them tells them, their parents if they have parents who do their homework, and what their HS coaches tell them, and maybe some research the proactive ones do on their own. The facilities are here, the students and campus are here, and the proximity works in our favor. If we have good recruiting coaches, it doesn't matter what we did or didn't do before they were born or before they really spent time watching college football.

Funny, not a mention about FAU beating NT in the tourney. Soccer is without a doubt the best program at NT. However, they have never won a NCAA playoff game. I hope Hedlund maybe with the aid of Baker can find whatever it takes to get over that hump. Hedlund almost entirely has done it with second tier recruited players from the metroplex. He obviously has a great network to identify the right players and does a great job getting them. I wonder if adding a couple of international players which are a mainstay of a lot of the programs he faces, would help take that next step. It also would probably help if that soccer facility was upgraded. They are obviously better off than playing in a crummy field by the Beer Barn, but I am guessing that most even conference foes have better facilities.

Absentee owner thinking more how to get media coverage for himself rather than looking out for his team. Oh, well, his money, but he sure is screwing the fans who pay for tickets to watch this hot mess. I feel sorry for Dirk, one of the NBA greats. Dirk's loyalty to Cuban and the Mavs is not being rewarded by an owner more interested in being a media clown than building a winning team. Sad.

Cuban is failing as as an NBA owner. He needs to focus on the team, take a step back so as not to be a distraction. I don't think players care for his personality and that hampers signing free agents. I also think Donnie Nelson ks way overrated as a GM.

You know, in Texas there are approximately 1024 High School football teams from 6-A to 2-A. How is it that we can't seem to find an adequate number of lineman amongst that many Texas High School football programs?
