While the overall situation is certainly not good, this newest report from the auditors provides a dollar amount several millions BELOW what was originally expected...which, of course is good news. And, UNT officials believe the figure will be even lower than it currently is when final reports and comments are submitted. The other "good news" concerning this unfortunate mess is that UNT has now a balanced budget, much stronger financial procedures and some very good new finance and budget officers. While challenging to say the least, it is good that the old practices were stopped and that better procedures are now in place. The repayment will take place over a 10 year period....IF, in fact, UNT is required to pay it all back. And, repayment and amount of repayment has yet to be determined. Word is that several other Texas state supported universities are quickly and quietly reviewing their procedures in this regard as well...and holding their collective breaths. Rumor is that UNT was not alone in such procedures. But, I really don't care about other universities...it is UNT that matters here, and UNT is getting its financial and budget house in much better order.9 points

That's an awesome idea. If y'all beat us...I would like to see that. All you gmg folks need come on down to SA in November and support your team. Unless you're just a miserable person to begin with you're almost guaranteed to have a good time. (win or lose) We're typically very hospitable to our opponent fans.7 points

RV how about looking at UNT's license apparel agreements with stores that sell caps, T-shirts, Golf/Polo shirts etc. I live in Houston and you don't know how frustrating it is to see stores selling university apparel and other logo items for every other university in the State of Texas, but UNT gear. I bet if fans had access to UNT apparel they might not wear other university logo'ed apparel to UNT games at Apogee stadium. You can blame UNT fans all you want about not supporting athletics by wearing other university apparel to home games, but if we can purchase your product then who's fault is it really!!!!!????6 points

So, this crap has been going on for years, and yet, state auditors could not find discrepancies during this entire time?? It took an anonymous phone call?4 points

Three home games in September, two of which under the zenith of the Texas sun, are indeed a rough way to go. I don't mind the early starts in terms of ability to make kickoff, but good lord, when it's still summer, it just ain't right. And yes, make sure the yellowjackets do everything within their physical ability to prevent anyone from getting any relief possible. I'm kinda surprised they didn't have guards overseeing the bathroom sinks to make sure that nobody stole free water to quench their heat exhaustion and health threatening dehydration. Oh yeah, #MGBmustwearfulluniforms!3 points

Disagree, ODU is in a bigger market and a good recruiting area. Most important ODU will have what I believe is the largest athletic budget in C-USA.2 points

I do feel much better with our new President taking things head on and doing some basic things link not budgeting 100% expected income and having external audits. I'm still pissed that our financial department could not do those two, simple, very basic things that any 1st year accounting student would know. Grrr!2 points

The first TD run by Dajon was not a typical "zone read" play. It is called an inverted veer play. This one specifically you call an inverted veer power. The RB and QB are attacking the same side of the field. In traditional zone read plays your QB is reading the backside DE. If he crashes the QB pulls, if he stays home he gives to the RB. Most coaches prefer the QB hand off to the RB on traditional zone reads. The inverted veer play is much like the Power O concepts that we use and thats why you see this play more than a traditional zone read. Y'Barbo is the pulling guard on that first TD. Dajon is reading the DE #99 Cole Frazier. Frazier is the best DL for the Colonels. Its typical that you force the opposing teams best player to be the one being read or zoned. What needs to happen to stop this play is for the DE to crash the QB and the LB's to scrape over the top to the RB and not over pursue.2 points

Time of possession is a by-product of offensive and defensive efficiency. As you could see in our first two offensive drives and our first defensive participation, we were hyper-efficient. Six offensive plays got us two touchdowns and a bundle of yards. One defensive play and we had the ball back. Yards-per-play matter more than time-had-the-ball. Much like in soccer where possession stats are grossly over-valued vs shot supremacy (shots taken vs allowed) it is far better to focus on what teams do with the possession. In the case of our turn-based gridiron football, it also matters what we do with our defensive turns as well. Whereas we can use possession in an overall strategy to increase efficiency, as was mentioned, it is far more effective to practice the blocking, tackling, and other direct football-y stuff.2 points

Uh oh, I sure hope you got permission from athletics before you used the name Mean Green for a child's athletic team like I was told to do? Sarcasm on my part of course with the question but it's true about the other as you can't make this up. And we wonder why fewer and fewer familiar alumni support? Congrats to the Mean Green Flag Footballers. Proud of y'all. Rick2 points

During the LaTech game, you could not walk the lower bowl without getting checked. At the Nicholls game, they only checked your ticket as you tried to enter seating area (lower seats for sure, not sure about upper seats, but did not appear so.)1 point

I'd love to see a Texas State or a Grambling come into town. We'd also be looking for home opponents in 2016 and 2017 as well it seems. 2016 - vs SMU; at Army; at Florida 2017 - at SMU; vs Army; at Iowa Fortunately from 2018 it's alternating home and home between SMU and Army. With Dajon Williams I'm cautiously optimistic about our game versus Florida. They don't seem to be the powerhouse threat they used to be in the Meyer/Tebow era. What a thrill that would be if we could knock of Florida. But I'm getting ahead of myself. Let's beat Indiana next week and assert ourselves in conference play.1 point

It used to be hella fun when they would bring their band to play during lunch hour in downtown Dallas the day before that annual Grambling-Prairie View A&M game at the Cotton Bowl. Do they still do that? I think that was an Al Lipscomb thing.1 point

Time of possession is still a goofy way of measuring it. If an offense runs 6 plays and takes 4 minutes off the clock doing it, does it really take a bigger toll on the opposing defense than a no-huddle/hurry-up offense that will run 6 plays in less than 2 minutes? I'd say the 2nd is far more wearing on a defense.1 point
