  1. Some good UNT football news after yesterday's blowout: I attend Milestone Church in Keller and it was baptism weekend and the first guy up looked familiar. Then they said his name was Riley. Sure enough it was Riley Dodge. It was pretty cool to see. Hope everyone has a good Sunday and week and hope the Mean Green can come back strong next week!

  3. Honestly if you hate this program so much why do you stay here? Also: If your time is so valuable then why are you wasting it posting on a fan board?

  4. HA. As I mentioned before, you want butts in seats you deliver consistent, winning product. I hope this is a reawakening for this young team. Bad games happen, and I expected to drop atleast on of one to USM, UTSA orFAU. I'm not disappointed in the loss, but I am in the performance. Still going to root for the team, this isn't a fire-sale moment. This is a big wake up call. Hopefully we pick up the damn phone.

  5. Look, we got absolutely ROCKED. That start to the game was as bad as I've witnessed. That thing snowballed on us so fast we blinked and it was 21-0. We have a team who isn't used to winning consistently, and they dang sure aren't used to the expectations associated with that. The upper class men haven't done it, and the lower class men are starting to do it. We are starting and playing an inordinate amount of freshman and sophomores, and unfortunately things like this happen when that is the case. I'm still pissed about the loss, but I'll show up Saturday and cheer for UNT. This will be the wake up call that propels this team to a great finish to the season. If we tackle the RB in the first two drives on 3rd down we may be having a different conversation. We didn't and things got out of hand quickly. Games like this, you watch and learn from then move as quickly as you can onto the next on and get ready to compete.

  6. At this point, yes. And the message sent is “we aren’t accepting shittiness on defense.”

  7. Wives and family on the trip is the issue? Please ... talk about stupid ideas ... it's a non issue. I think the big issue we saw today is we have a bunch of kids playing football and they sometimes act like kids. They probably didn't prepare as they should have ... they didn't respect the opponent as much as they should have ... they probably over estimated themselves ... and when they fell into the huge hole they kinda gave up. These are the types of games you see from every college team but we don't have the talent to sleep walk for a half and get away from it.

  8. Really, there was nothing that Littrell could say in a post game interview that would satisfy anybody after a game like that. Blaming anybody but himself would serve no purpose. I don't like his coach-speak, another week better, etc. but it is pretty much universal among coaches. What matters is what he communicates to his staff and team and I doubt it is going to be pleasant. As far as the wives, I doubt if NT would have won; there would little interest. This is a Baker mess-up, it is just bad optics no matter what it actually cost. I don't believe it had any effect at all relative to the game. A more experienced AD would know better. Any organization depending on donations, should know that an expenditure like this is going to get the reaction that is happening.

  20. Never in my wildest dreams could I ever imagine FAU spanking us like they did, but in the back of my mind I was a little worried because of all of the attention paid to last week. The Players and Staff: Enjoy your serving for the letdown after last week. The attention was Rat Poison, as Saban likes to call it, and you fell for the hype. Reff, Koontz, Yellock, Brown, etc... on the defensive side must go back for sexonds and thirds. The Fans: This is what we get for focusing on the fan meltdown on the UTSA board, talking bowl games, talking about other programs poaching ojr staff, messing with uniform juju, etc... I still stand by my 8-4 prediction but let thoughts of 10-2 enter my mind too many times this week and started bragging on our team. Reff and the D staff: you have to eat the leftovers. This should be a great lesson for the team. I believe we have the leadership in place to respond accordingly and to use this to motivate us moving forward. FAU exposed our poor defense and provides a blueprint for every future opponent. That, plus a couple of our players that had preseason accolades and NFL aspirations are playing way, way, way below their potential need to either play better or be shown the pine. Nothing on D was acceptable. We were passive, let FAU dictate everything, had zero urgency and played like we didn't want to be there. I would ban the team from social media for the next week. They can earn it back with their performance. 8-4 regular season.

  22. If English is as advertised and at full speed, he could have an impact like we haven’t seen since Booger Kennedy. This defense needs that in a bad way right now!

  23. Fine has proved he has developed to an impressive level.. he does not need game reps.. Putting in Quinn would have been good for Quinn because it would have changed the voice in the “huddle” and it would have provided him some playing time if needed.. Also, Fine took a beating vs UTSA, giving him half the game off would have been nice

  24. In reading media reports, I’m concerned that several quotes from players and Littrell are referencing the fact they had no energy or excitement coming into the game, but had a good week of practice. Littrell emphasizes a good week of practice leads to a good game. That didn’t happen tonight. And Ejiya said they couldn’t figure out a way to stop the FAU offense. This game felt a lot like a combo of the SMU game this year, the Portland State disaster, last year’s UTEP game and the 2008 Rice drilling. I’m really hoping this is an isolated situation, but these are the kinds of losses that are simply unacceptable. If energy and excitement was lacking...why? Do changes need to be made with travel-related issues, hotel, food, etc.? How can you not be excited for this kind of match-up with the conference division in your control? Disappointing...time for this program to look itself in the mirror and decide to be great or go home!

  26. There was no organized or formal pool party. The pool was by the meeting rooms. Some guys took their shirts off and sat on some loungers for a few minutes during a break from team meetings. As for the wives, except for sharing a room, they were not with the coaches the whole time. Wives did dinner on their own Friday evening and had their own activities Saturday morning before leaving for the game. They didn’t even ride on the same buses as their husbands, and no, they didn’t have their own bus.

  27. I've got to say that the knee jerking after today's disaster is much less than I anticipated. Most of us, while obviously very disappointed in the result, understand that the season will go on and that we have all of the same goals still in our reach. This game, no matter how ugly and embarrassing, only counts for one loss in the standings.

  28. OK, here is my assessment, for what it's worth. First, FAU had an off week to prepare for us, we were getting cocky after the UTSA game and FAU has a pretty good team. We certainly made them look better than they are, but that is just the way it happened. Also, playing in front of 2,000 people did not help either. College kids can get complacent...hope the coaching staff snaps them out of their complacency. Practices this week should be very interesting.

  29. I don't get this logic. So the other conference title contenders that have a CUSA loss can regroup, get better and progress, but somehow we're incapable of that? I understand that everyone's pissed about the completely flat performance (I am too), but this kind of sentiment comes across as overly emotional. Ideally, I want us to win the rest of the CUSA games and force a rematch with FAU. Think we'd see a totally different North Texas team against them in round 2.

  30. What did you say? We still have ringing in our ears due to crowd noise from that last touchdown from Fine to Bussey. Say again?
    4 points
  31. I think they kept Fine in for the game experience. He is a true sophomore. Every play he is in is more film he gets to watch of himself. He’s our future QB (Next 2 years at least), so you should at least salvage something out of this game.

  32. What a shame that such a good team, FAU, has a fan base that is smaller than a mid-size high school. We sure can’t say the crowd effect had anything to do with this pitiful performance by UNT. Going to just have to finish the game...try to get something positive going (just like in the SMU game) and move on to Old Dominion. FAU is far superior tonight in every aspect of the game! Real gut check for the Mean Green tonight. As head coaches should do, Littrell gets to take the responsibility for this one. That’s what you get to do when you are paid a million a year.

  36. I don't know if the wives had anything to do with this loss or not. What I do know is that this defense is giving up more points per game than they did last season. What's the difference? The difference is Ekeler is gone and Reffett is the lone DC. Maybe that's why Ekeler left. Maybe he didn't agree with what Reffett wanted and got tired of it. Reffett has been a DC before and it was short lived. He should go back to his Alma Mater which is UTEP. There is no way a defense with basically the same people as last year should be this bad except that the DC is that bad. It's too late now to change, but at the end of the season Seth needs to have that difficult talk with Reffett. If Seth is expecting to move up to a P5 school, he has got to prove that he can win in all three phases of the game and not just on offense. When a team has to rely on it's offense to bail them out, that is a recipe for disaster. It has always been true and is true now, defense wins championships.

  38. I'm talking about a college coaching staff paid millions of dollars to prepare their team to play 13 games a year. Just 13. That was the most poorly prepared and coached game I have seen in my 20 years of following this program closely. Bringing their wife on a vacation to their work detracted from those coaches preparing our team and contributed to that embarrassing performance and that is the fault of Seth Littrell and Wren Baker. Take your wife on a vacation to Boca in the off-season. NOT ON GAMEDAY. PS: I'm not talking about HS coaches. Good HS coaches are some of the most important people in the country.

  41. You have to be kidding... you have a family?? Ever spent 3-4 months away from them, I'm talking 6 am-7-8 pm maybe later for college coaches. And done that for 6 days a week. The one day you don't is show up to work by 2 pm and get home when everyone's asleep.

  42. Coaching staff brought all their wives to Boca and must have had a fun time NOT preparing their football team.

  44. I need to remind coach Littrell and GH about STD!! First, don’t be “Selfish” with putting his team at risk of injury to pad his productivity! The “Toughness” and “Discipline” wasn’t there either.

  46. You have to honestly start asking the question why Seth is so adamant that Finr stays in the game. At some point do potential recruits look at this and have to wonder if they have any chance to get on the playing field in the next two years.

  47. I thought that I wouldn't see this poor of a performance with this coaching staff and these players. They obviously weren't prepared and regardless of second half performance have been humiliated. This doesn't mean that NT can't win the division but I believe that the conference championship is out of the question. We see how weak and vulnerable this team can be. I do agree with Cerberus that both the offense and the defense must show up the second half and make up some of the 34 point halftime deficit if this team is to get back on course. So far, we aren't doing that. My worst fear is that they've lost a lot of fans for the next game. Our culture is too fragile after too many seasons of losing to overcome our degree of apathy.
    4 points
  48. I'm sure they do. Well, uh, maybe they should stop. It's not as if the team is there for 72-96 hours or something. It's a day before flight usually paired with a post game direct flight home. What is the point to bring in the distraction? There is none. And bet your ass they all get a say in where and when they go. The whole damn university, administration, coaching staff, and players should be ashamed. No, he doesn't know that. But he doesn't know otherwise either. There is sure as shit some evidence to suggest his theory is at lest close to accurate. 804 pieces of evidence.
