Local schools not recruiting well?

Seems to me this "local" school ain't doing too bad in the the area of recruiting:

(from BillySee58's research last week)

"We have 9 current commits who are rated 3-stars by at least one of the four major recruiting websites. Our 3-star commits and what services have them rated as a 3-star:

Branding Garner (ESPN)

Connor Means (ESPN)

Andrew Jones (ESPN)

Trevor Moore (ESPN)

Jalen Adams (ESPN)

Willy Ivery (Scout & Rivals)

Tee Goree (Scout, Rivals and 247

Caleb Chumley (Rivals, 247 & ESPN)

As for "almost" 3 star ratings:

O'Keeron Rutherford has a grade of a 78 on 247 (80 is a 3 star, 70-79 is a 2 star)

Shaq Jackson is a 5.4 on Rivals (need a 5.5 for a 3 star

Josh Greer was just rated a 5.4 on Rivals as well

Also, a few of our 3-stars are very close to being 3 stars on at least one more website.

Fonzale is a 5.4 on Rivals

Garner is a 5.4 on Rivals

Jalen Adams is a 5.4 on Rivals

Andrew Jones is a 78 on 247

Brandon Garner is a 78 on 247

Connor Means is a 78 on 247

Willy Ivery is a 79 on 247

Another reason we shouldn't always put too much stock into stars (I use

offer lists and film ahead of stars) is a guy like Chris Miles, the Flower

Mound offensive lineman. Look at this offer list: This is easily a 3 star

offer list yet he is a 2-star? Very excited to have him and I couldn't

care less that he is not a 3 star. Very valuable commit and smart kid

who will do well on the field and in the classroom."

GMG!

PS: Did I leave a name off the 3-star list because I think you said "9" 3 stars in your original research.

So stars DO mean something this year? It's hard to keep up.

Only when it's in our favor.

Exactly. But in all honesty, it's just a frame of reference. Especially after they finish their college football careers.

The more important thing is a player's offer list (who you beat out and who wanted him at some point), his highlight tape, and production. We have players who have some pretty sweet offer lists, great highlight tape, and absolutely dominated on the high school level like you would hope to see from your signees.

It's nice to have extra stars, but it ultimately does not determine the sucess or failure of classes. Whenever I've gotten the chance to speak with coaches and scouts, they pretty much all agree that you have 100 or so bonified five-star "can't miss" prospects, and then everyone else is slotted according to who is recruiting them. That's why the ratings for 2-4 star players fluctuate all the time - when the big boys are recruiting them, it is assumed that they've got something in the bag.

That's not to say that stars are meaningless - if other people believe that they have value, then it can't hurt to have perception (and positive PR) on your side.
