Taking an early stab at a prediction on UTSA football

The time has come to take a look at what we can expect from UTSA football in Year 3 of the program.

And I know what you're saying as you read this.

“Isn't this the guy that picked UTSA to finish 4-8 last fall?”

I can't deny it. It's a fact. Last summer, I was asked to make a prediction on the Roadrunners.

At the time, 4-8 seemed generous.

Well, we all know what happened after that.

The Roadrunners got hot at the outset, won their first five games, and then cruised home at 8-4.

This time, I'm going to take another stab at it.

It seems appropriate to say something, after all, following the release last week of schedule information out of Conference USA.

With the release, we found out that the Roadrunners would be playing home conference football games in the fall against Rice, Louisiana Tech, Tulane and Alabama-Birmingham.

We also learned that UTSA would play C-USA road games at Tulsa, North Texas, UTEP and Marshall.

It's nice to be among a startup's "most beatable opponents." :glare:

We are gonna beat the shit out of them.....book it. I wager UTSA has 1 win next year (UAB) when they get their reality check on FBS ball.

6 of the 8 wins they had last year were FCS teams or lower.

The 2 wins last year (FBS) were against Idaho and New Mexico State....... and I need not make comments about both of those program's performances last year.

TxState and UAB were both fully D1-A last year as well (not to mention UAB was one of the 4 total wins north Texas had last year)

so the reality is UTSA had one more win over D1-A teams last year than north Texas had

and they had wins over Georgia State and See You Later McNeese State both of which are dramatically superior to Texas Southern

ohhhh......ok I forgot we played UAB last year. I guess I missed that game. Was it away or at home? Would you really consider two schools (I assume you meant South Alabama) that had their 1st year in the freaking watered down WAC with THAT type of out of conference schedule...to be FBS football teams? That is like saying just because you are on a 85 man roster that you are an FBS football player. Not until you have proved you are on the field and actually done something. Go back to the drawing board with this attempt there Todgy.

Cut check facts some slack. He simply forgot to, well, check his facts.

It's hard work doing the same routine for years and years. Better comedians than he will ever be have a hard time with it.

yes TxState should prove something like going down to UH and kicking the hell out of them the way north Tex.....oh wait never mind

and yea TxState needs to "prove something" like north Texas did this year with 4 wins and only 3 of those over D1-A schools

oh wait TxState had 4 wins and 3 were over D1-A schools......they had wins over two of the crappiest D1-A schools out there.....NMSU and Idaho.......and oh lookie here north Texas had wins over two of the crappiest D1-A schools out there USA and FAU.......and then TxState had a win over Stephen F. Austin that is a D1-AA school and lookie here north Texas had a win over a D1-AA team TSU that just plain sucks compared to SFA and then TxState kicked the crap out of UH that a few weeks later kicked the crap out of north Texas and then north Texas had the win over Louisiana

so yea TxState should really take advice from north Texas fans on "accomplishing something" when the reality is TxState pretty much "accomplished" the exact same thing in their first year in D1-A as north Texas did in their 18th year back in D1-A

both had 4 total wins......one over a D1-AA team with TxState beating the better D1-AA team and two wins over some of the crappiest D1-A programs out there and then a win over a better D1-A team with TxState kicking the crap out of a school that both teams played at UH while UH kicked the crap out of north Texas

so yea the part about just because you have 85 players does not mean you compete.....I would think that applies as much to a school that is in their 18th season back in D1-A and still winning 4 games mostly over crap VS a school playing in their first season in D1-A and actually stomping a common opponent VS getting stomped by a common opponent

and same goes with any UTSA comparisons......both beat a really bad common opponent, both beat some other crap, and both beat a D1-AA team with UTSA beating the better D1-AA team of your choice and UTSA also actually beating more total D1-A teams VS north Texas and UTSA beating the team that kicked the crap out of UH to open the season while north Teas got stomped by UH

at the end of the day north Texas beat crap to get 4 wins and UTSA beat crap to get 1 more total D1-A win (4) vs the three than north Texas has......but yea somehow north Texas beat better crap even though one was a common opponent

this is what makes this message board such a laugh the inability to accept reality even when it is beating you over the head

Not gonna read your entire rant.... what I did read was the part where you called something "such a laugh". Speaking of laugh... you live in Lubbock but have screen names on MULTIPLE sites wherein you won't declare an allegiance to any program except the one that beats North Texas. Even with just being able to post once per day (you are lucky we gave you that) you still come by to use said post. Are you unemployed or just generally bored? While some of us are mental for spending too much time on this board at least it is because we are passionate about our school. Can't you pick up a new hobby like porn or something? I know Lubbock is a dusty armpit of Texas but come on man... there has to be something you can do there. When was the last time you made at least an attempt at trying to physically communicate with someone? You're obsessive compulsive behavior reminds me of a serial killer's profile.

I bet UTSA goes 3-9 this year, which would still be a huge step in the right direction for them. If they win 4 or 5 games next year, I think everyone should start looking at them as challenging soon for a division or conference championship.

UTSA is an interesting school to look at right now. If they suck, they'll be nothing more than a CUSA/FBS punching bag. But if they get it going and somehow become a bowl team in the next 3 years, much less contending for a championship, the doors that are going to open up for them will be doors that we could only dream about. Somebody is gonna come knocking on their door if they start winning soon, whether its the MWC or the Big East. The MWC would love to get back in Texas with a team that would bring eye balls and media coverage, meaning that UTEP and UTSA could very easily be travel partners very soon. The nBig East, especially SMU, UH, Tulane, and Tulsa would love to add a Texas team in a big market that they don't have to share. Since San Antonio is a destination city and they play in the big Alamodome, they are going to be very marketable to lots of people. UTSA may end up being no different than we have been as a FBS underling, but they might also be the next USF, too.

So lets see, I mean, what GL2greatness is saying that we'd be like 10-2 if we had UTSA's schedule.

another stupid and laughable claim

the only losses that UTSA had were Utah State and San Jose State that were both 11-2 and La Tech that was 9-3 and Rice that was 7-6...there is not a chance in hell north Texas would have been 10-2 and there is little chance north Texas would have even beaten Rice out of those 4 schools much less any of the other three

In your logic there was pretty much no chance UNT would have beaten the university of Louisiana which went 9-4 including a bowl win.... yet UNT did. UTSA has no comparable win on last years resume. Enough of this "discussion".
