Tuesday afternoon hoops notes (Holmen, UNT women’s GPA, etc)

Tony Benford mentioned during his coach’s show last night that Jacob Holmen could be out for a while. I had a chance to follow up today.

It doesn’t sound good.

Holmen went down after colliding with another player in UNT’s win over South Alabama. Chris Jones, myself and a university spokesman started counting concussions today in practice.

That is usually a bad sign.

Holmen cracked his head on the floor early last season in a loss to Mississippi State, had another concussion late in the year and has now had one this year. That is three that we remembered at practice today.

Holmen really had a tough time recovering from those concussions last year.

That sucks for him. At least he can still play golf. It would be nice to get to see him on the court again this year since it is his last season. Even if he just spots of the corner and is protected in a zone d. This team has been completely diminished due to injuries. It's time for Niko and Keith to step up.

Is illness another word for a coach that's lacking in good judgment?

One stormy night, a home invader burst into my house and started threating my family, but I quickly reached into my nightstand and pulled out a zone d, used it a few times and scared him away.

Zone d, is there anything you can't do?

Interesting. Did you use the high powered 4-1?

I prefer the 2-3, reliable, handsome, portable. Easy to find ammo. I'll hang up and listen.

As a non-coach or former player, I'm uneasy discussing these in depth scheme topics. I'd prefer to withhold an opinion until Skiver (http://www.gomeangreen.com/forums/user/41725-skiver/) makes his first official GMG.com post on the issue.

You better believe it. Sick of USA and their new coach infringing on my right to bear zones.

Well, you DID use the 4-1. I heard the Conference USA commisioner outlawed it today because it looked much scarier than all the other zone defenses, even though it basically operated the same way.

Oh, the commish also said you can now only use 4 players in a zone defense.

I think he is Russian or something.

I thought it was that any offense that shoots more than seven times a half will be banned?

No, no, no! You got it all wrong, man.

After you take seven shots, you have to take a timeout and put in five new players before you can shoot again,

Is it really that hard? I mean, this will make the game sooooo much better!

What do you think about this Notre Dame story? Who would do something like make up a fake internet alias and try to keep it going for so long, even when the doubts and dots were all obviously connected?

Let's step up tonight and beat FIU!!!!11!
