UNT Stadium Upstages its team

DENTON, Texas — One of the sweetest little eight-figure stadiums this side of Allen opened to requisite fanfare Saturday. Pat Boone crooned the national anthem, the Geezle Eagle statue birthed a tradition and a North Texas player reversed field not once but twice on the opening kickoff.

Unfortunately, long-suffering North Texas fans missed most of the above while tailgating among the graceful berms and oaks that once decorated Eagle Point Golf Course.

By the time they nearly filled up Apogee Stadium, the atmosphere wasn’t quite so festive anymore.

Houston took advantage of three first-half turnovers by UNT, then pulled away in the second half with a stack of records in a 48-23 win before 28,075 in the host’s new digs.

Designed by HKS, the outfit that dreamed up JerryWorld, Apogee Stadium is a cozy, honey of a joint. The ends on each side bend toward the field, improving sightlines and turning up the sound level.

Get this: Houston’s coach, Kevin Sumlin, cited the “atmosphere” as a factor for his offensive problems in the first half.

Crowd noise? At a UNT game?

“That atmosphere,” Mean Green coach Dan McCarney said, “was unbelievable.”

this guy can choke on a short cylindrical object...

I concur!:sword:

North Texas and Bill McCarney will soon make some of the Dallas MN's elite forget about an elitist university whose best days were over 60 years ago. Mark it.

And the Allen HS comparison was spoken like a true Dallas snob. Wonder what crawled up his bum to make him be so ugly with that sarcastic "high school'ish" remark? Wonder if ol' Kevey Boy knows more NT Exes read his DMN than any other DFW-based collegiate alumnus group? The DMN should assign him to: Allen High School and their 900(?) piece marching band. What the heck can you do with a 900 piece marching band is my question? Has the Allen HS Jazz Band been nominated for any Grammy's of late, Kevey Boy?

GMG!

Read that yesterday....Sherrington's point doesn't even make sense. How could he comment on how noisy the crowd was.....and then in the same column, say that most of the crowd didn't get there until the game was out of hand.

But, I do think the column was overall...more positive than negative.
