We are all so very proud tonight of our Mean Green ladies and their outstanding win to secure a coveted inaugural AAC Championship! Also, a huge shout out to Coach Jason Burton and his assistants who did a fantastic job coaching this team! Credit to AD Jared Mosley and his staff as well as they have provided a great support structure for this program. The future is so very bright! I am also proud of what we have been able to accomplish in about 5 whirlwind months with the Mean Green Collective. We have been able to donate $191K (cash not pledges) to both the men's and women's programs. We could not have done this without the support of so many of you and we appreciate every donor that stepped up to help us. 🙏 The future is extremely bright for Mean Green Basketball and we want to help support the teams in reaching their full potential both on and off the court. The road ahead does not get any easier for us as we will have other teams coming after our players and we need to raise more money to keep them here as well as attract others. If you would like to be a part, we could use your help. Please join us at MeanGreenCollective.com. Thank you again for your support and GO MEAN GREEN!11 points

Better energy than some of the MBB games this season. Fun crowd.6 points

Possibly the best attended game outside of the DISD game? The crowd is really into the game. Jason Edwards walking around the court talking to fans right now.6 points

There are a lot of people who have said for years you can't win anything at UNT and you can't build anything of significance. What Coach Burton and the ladies proved is that you absolutely can with the right coach. Just like McCasland did with an NCAA tourney win and NIT championship. It can be done here! You just have to have the right coach. For years we were told that Jalie was the best we could ever wish for and that without her we would be in big trouble. Same with Coach Pete and Tina Slinker before him. There are some on the football board that say we should give coach more time and I don't disagree but you can't just allow coaches 3-4-5 years to prove themselves anymore.5 points

I yelled that at a Tulsa fan during the 08 or 09 game. This old lady told me, actually we had a hurricane hit last year. Drunk me was caught off guard. So was the Mendoza defense as we lost by 30 plus points.4 points

FAU's Dusty May on playing the Mean Green in Denton Wednesday night: "they're healthy now. They've played extremely well with a full roster. They beat Memphis at home. And then they bring in Rubin Jones and CJ Nolan back from injury and they sputtered the first game or two. I think sometimes you bring a guy back from injury and you just expect him to work back in seamlessly. In reality, roles change, rotations change, it's not quite that simple. And as we know it, every game is hard to win and is a challenge to win. So they played as well offensively as they have all season yesterday vs East Carolina at home, so they're clicking with a full roster and we're very well aware of how difficult it's going to be to win and in The Pit."4 points

White stripe is strictly for film purposes. Coaches have a much better idea where the players eyes are when that giant white stripe is pointed towards where they SHOULD be looking or where they SHOULDN'T be looking. Takes the players ability to lie about where they were looking away. Eye in the sky don't lie.4 points

Next time you ask yourself that, think about this. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/2024/03/01/after-loss-in-court-the-ncaa-is-pausing-investigations-into-third-party-nil-deals-with-athletes/72810794007/ Anytime they have tried to wrangle in NIL they have been unable to, due to the antitrust laws in this country. It's simply not possible to enforce rules that hinder a person's ability to be compensated. The big schools want it to be this way, they knew what this would bring. So can we collectively agree that the problem is not from a lack of trying from the NCAA?3 points

I have felt that MTSU joining the MAC may have been the best decision they could have made. Granted, it would have killed of the C-USA, but they sacrificed stability of being in the MAC into waiting for an opportunity (that may never come) to replace Memphis in the AAC if they get picked up by either the ACC or Big XII. I could be wrong though.3 points

We need to up our budget across the board, but particularly in basketball. According to this article we spent $3.5m https://www.collegefactual.com/colleges/university-of-north-texas/student-life/sports/ And this older article had us ranked around 130 https://www.three-man-weave.com/3mw/college-basketball-budgets-2022 The problem is we are well bellow the AAC's average budget of $5.5m. For reference Memphis' budget is $13.7m and USF's is $4.9m.3 points

34-26 NORTH TEXAS at the half! Memphis held to just 10 points for the 2nd quarter.3 points

All those matchups tire fans already. But we have already seen that these decisions aren't being made based on what fans want (or on what's best for student-athletes, or for the integrity of amateur sports, or for increasing the competitiveness of the games, etc.). It's all about dollars for Disney--and dollars from Disney.3 points

Honestly who cares anymore? This realignment stuff has gotten so stupid.3 points

Having Senior Day the Saturday before Thanksgiving is far preferable to the Saturday after Thanksgiving. We also avoided a Thursday/Friday home game (so far).3 points

I mean, I do think you need to give coaches a bit of time to get things established, but in the day of endless transfers, the leash is definitely shorter. Not that someone can't completely turn it around in Year 1 (Burton just did it), but I don't think it's necessarily realistic to expect going from the basement to a title at the snap of a finger.2 points

Definitely agree with you and @NorthTexasWeLove will 100% agree with you. One silver lining is look at what we have accomplished on a shoestring budget!2 points

It's nice when there's no need to lean on one player. It's good to have alternatives.2 points

Mike Canales per Footballscoop.com in 2010. “Our motto is going to be that we are going to lock the gate and go to work. If it is at 2:40 or 2:50 or whatever time we are going to practice, that gate is going to be locked. There is a time to play and a time to work, and we are going to work. I am going to demand a lot and expect a lot.”2 points

I've grown tired of "realignment" talk. It's the most overblown game of musical chairs ever. The rich and power hungry football schools just continue to consolidate and all of us peasants keep trying to kill each other for the chance to join them....but there are no new seats added. Just removed.2 points

Memphis, Tulane, and USF do not have the brand names they think they do. All this horrible realignment has not left any more big-name G5's for the Big XII's or ACC's to backfill with. Memphis may have the history but right now I think Boise State is a bigger name than them.2 points

There's not a chance the B1G takes Louisville. Even the Big XII passed up on Louisville because of their lacking academic reputation.2 points

Big takeaway from today's game is our balanced scoring, even without contribution from Aaron (and our three-point shooting). Five players in double figures, all under 20, so not having to lean on one player. Jason's shot wasn't there early but he started making them later on. Liked that Stone dared to put it up a few more times today, just wish one or two had gone in.2 points
