  1. If we can get a big crowd and get a win against Cal…..4-0 isn’t out of the question. Morris and Co. want to make a big splash, beat Cal. And if Mosley and Co. want to make a big splash, market the hell out of that game. And yes, we’ve got a bad record for situations like this but you gotta change the narrative sometime. GMG.

  2. Just a lurker these days…this place got way too personal. Decided to just walk away…

  5. Not so fast. It's not like Eric is going to run the same plays that Seth did. Not only that but we have new personnel coming in and we will probably be using our existing personnel in different ways than he's used to. He certainly won't know shit about how the defense is going to play.

  6. I love UNT, but that’s a big ask for the first game of the season with a new coaching staff. It’d be fun, though. I’ll be there. GMG!

  7. It all starts with the QB. If one of the guys can be a legit FBS starter, we should have a decent to good season and the recruiting will follow.

  9. Cal really isn't that good, even though it's a name. 9 wins combined in the last 2 years, and only 1 in 2020 (but that was a weird year in the PAC12). A win is definitely possible, and would grab headlines.

  10. We have a bigger advantage having Morris here than they do having Bloesch there.... Wazzu beat Cal 28-9 last year. Cam Ward threw for 343 and 3 scores.

  11. I'm with you on the too lazy to look up thing. But I'm not sure that's too terribly relevant, as we have not had a first year coach to take over a 7 (or more)-win team since the '70's. Morris gets to do that.

  12. We were 7-7 and a qb away from being conference champs.

  13. Quite the correct post. As others have said, I do believe it is a bubble that will burst, but we have no place for arrogance right now. They have a lot going for them that we don’t and vice versa. In the long run I think we have all we need to move past all of that, but they’ve done a great job with football. We have the “resources” but also the apathy. They have the inverse. I pay them respects while also believing we can and should be on a different tier if we get serious about doing so.

  15. If they play it right it could be a sellout

  16. If they don’t market the ish out of the Cal game, they’ve severely messed up. New coach, new conference, winnable P5 in your house? Should be an all out blitz to get butts in seats.

  17. I look at it differently. Every kid that commits to us over San Antonio CC is a smart one that we know won’t have trouble reading a play book or remembering how to tie their shoes.

  18. The last UNT head football coach to win his first game was Mike Canales in his first interim role in 2010 at WKU, 33-6. When we started a season with a new head coach, Matt Simon was the last coach to win his first game - 1994 against Abilene Christian.

  19. They are replacing their QB with Jackson, a little used QB from the Horned Frogs. This game could be interesting.

  23. Yes, I think Morris will be familiar with Cal's defense.

  24. Simpson was a good player for us until his arrest and dismissal. But in general, many of the top rated recruits we signed were risks, either academically, character, or out of state guys. That's why we have missed on so many. Hopefully the current staff can use the conference change and local connections to change this.

  25. You’re not wrong. It won’t take much to surpass them. But to bury them and forget them forever, which should be our aspiration, we need a QB (which we may have gotten), the facility improvement, consistent quality attendance, and to f’n consistently win. Til we do that, I won’t run my mouth at em even though I hate em. I think we should aim higher than being their rival, but for now they’ve more than made their case. It’s on us to get the leverage now. We’ll see.

  26. Get ready to be disappointed when Harris finally runs out of eligibility….. and utsa doesn’t fall off a cliff. Granted, it would not surprise me to see traylor leave the same offseason. Not necessarily because of Harris…but if he wins again this year, as we all expect, he’s going to be a scorching hot commodity.

  28. This could easily be like 2018 with a 4-0 OOC start. Let's just hope first AAC game goes better than 2018...

  29. Just ignore RIvals and ESPN. 247 does a decent job but even they rushed evals of our guys and three have exactly the same rating. On the plus side, they had ignore Nelson who had a ton of offers and finally gave him a solid score.

  30. Beat cal and theres a legit opportunity for 2 5-0 unt vs utsa at denton to happen. That would be the best opportunity for a full sell out stadium

  31. I agree, big ask. I think we will be okay if we can be competitive. Just don't get blown out and fans will see that we are much improved and I think they will support that. A win on the other hand would be icing on the cake. I would just hope that if that happens, Morris can keep the guys from reading their own press clippings and keep them grounded.

  32. Yeah, that was the wild wild west days of the internet, long before there were closed sites and passwords. We would read the info on Harry's Mean Green and then go converse about it on the "Paradise Board" with the lawnmower banner add. People from various schools were constantly screwing with each other's fan boards. Totally untraceable. We had trolls like Loyalfan (Dickey lover) and Whitman Mayo (Trilli hater) that lived on our board. And yes, signed Letters Of Intent were faxed to each school back then. It would have been so simple to have a dozen fans fax a bunch of black papers to a school all day and really screw up their signing day, or worse yet, forge signitures of some of their highest rated offerees that they were not going to get.

  34. I taught at McKinney High School in the early mid sixties. We had players earning scholarships to University of Texas, Baylor, University of Oklahoma, Texas Tech, and Rice. More recently, I remember a bobsledder (Johnny Quinn) from McKinney.

  38. I think very little of utsa the school. Having said that, and after attending the championship game, as long as they can continue to draw to the Alamodome they will be a problem to deal with. That dome provides them with a great atmosphere. Another thing to consider is that the San Antonio news actually covers them and puts them on TV and in print. We have Brett Vito. That’s it. The draw for kids to play there will be there as long as they aren’t terrible. Great atmosphere and TV coverage are real advantages. We literally went from looking down at them to celebrating every recruit we got a commit from that was offered by utsa like they were superstars. That‘s pretty telling and upsetting.

  39. Kevin Dillman, I'd forgot about him. Once recruited by all the big boys as QB, even compared to Tim Tebow. Moved to TE by John Walsh at Guyer. Committed to NT as TE/Athlete and just never found a place.

  42. 99th in Nat't recruiting, we need to turn that around and fast! I like what's happening with adding to the recruiting staff, should pay dividends next year, but we need to win in 2023!

  43. When the difference from 3rd to 10th is .74, what does that mean in real world, on the field terms? USF, 3rd place, had a .0087 (percent) better recruiting class than UNT, 10th place. Sounds like splitting hairs to me, and will boil down to coaching, assuming the star ratings are accurate.

  44. I don't think it is really that meaningful a comparison. There has been a lot of rating inflation over the years, everyone almost is now at least a 3. However, your main point is that rankings are often wrong is very valid. Obvious, you should actually rate a class after all those players have use up their eligibility. However, that is not very apparently appealing to the average fan and would take some real work. Rankings are basically a byproduct of what schools are thought to be recruiting a player. The number and generally what conference the teams are in. None of the rating staffs spend much time on really viewing the play of the recruits and why should they? The teams themselves for the most part do their our evaluations and they set the ranking by their interest.

  45. Those boys got faces fit for radio and voices for print but it was a pretty informative show. I agree with Billy on the B+ grade. I think that is fair, and the class was impressive given the short time the staff had, but probably not the type of class we would celebrate otherwise or keep U.S. competitive in the AAC. Next year will be the real challenge and a better judge of whether they can win longer recruiting battles.

  46. I loved this inaugural GOMEANGREEN National Signing Day Super Show. It has great information and very good production quality. Hopefully it will become an annual event next year. A lot has changed for us since the olden days of recruiting speculation on Harry's Mean Green board prior to signing day and the simple Signed NIL list in the newspapers.
