I don’t get anyone blaming our people in the department or staff for this? if it weren’t for Coach’s Littrell & Harrell MF might not have even gotten the chance? They evaluated him, brought him here, placed him immediately in the center ring and he took GREAT advantage of his opportunities. He played on national TV several times. Shocked the SEC by routing one of their schools in a game that was talked about for weeks,, led the nation in completions over 40 yards one season, was at the top in completion percentage, broke several school records, had one of our greatest all time comeback wins, earned great respect by everyone he played against, always represented his university by speaking with a respectful, intelligent & confident attitude every time he faced the media. I mean,...I don’t know what else he could have done here or anywhere else, or what more the department could have done to convince the so called experts to bring him in? Rick13 points

According to a quote by Mason, "I am 5'10 and 3/4" tall." Now who wants to quibble over 1/4" with that much at stake? By the way, James Morgan, the FIU quarterback who was drafted in the 5th? round, was tenth in CUSA quarterback ratings. But...he is 6-4.4 points

I know some here don't want to hear this, but I think a good example of a career trajectory for Mason would be Graham Harrell, who, after a fabulous collegiate career, went undrafted, never really established himself at the pro level, and now, at 34, is probably one of the highest paid assistant coaches in college coaching.4 points

Can someone answer this question? I see a lot of people angry at the department for not having producing a pick but I’m missing what they could have done with Mason specifically to ensure that he gets drafted4 points

Again, we can't drop a sport and remain in the FBS unless they change the rule. We have the minimum number now (16). I just don't see Wren Baker willing to drop to FCS when he is unwilling to pair with Sun Belt schools because he feels (and I agree) that we would be moving backward. He has supposedly stated that we are not in worse shape than most of our peers. I'm sorry, but this 'poor me' attitude is beating me down. Keep positive!4 points

Disappointed that Wren feels geographic alignment with SBC is beneath UNT. Last I looked CUSA West was the lowest rated division in D 1. Also our strength of schedule for 2020 is 115 out of 130. Finally, hell will freeze over before we get invite to AAC.3 points

Nothing left for him to do or prove. If the f uckers in the NFL can't see who he is they're all morons.3 points

Agreed. Mason broke all those records running for his life. We have done okay in run blocking, but pass protection has been a glaring weakness.3 points

And this, my friends, is the heart of the North Texas problem. Good offensive(and defensive) linemen MUST BE A PRIORITY FOR THIS PROGRAM TO GROW! You can have the best QB and RB in FBS football, but if you don't have maulers up front, at every position, then you are set for failure. And on the defensive side too.3 points

I hope so. We need a few breaks to come our way after so many years of playing catch up; trying to overcome bad, past decisions that put us behind the eight ball. We have come a long way in a relatively short amount of time. Thank God for Dr. Smatresk and Wren Baker.3 points

Wren did say in the call we are better positioned to come out of this then most of our peer institutions and does believe this will help us pass some of those institutions!3 points

that's what i've heard, but i don't know if i'm gonna try it again. once the head guy did his bionic man slow walk to his office and they kept on him for 20-30 secs of him making stupid sounds and random movements, i quit2 points

Couldn't get into Breaking Bad or Ozark. I tried a couple episodes each. Forgot about Parks and Rec. Will look into that.2 points

To clarify, Wren said that he is aware that fans of teams that had left the Sun Belt may see merging with Sun Belt teams as a step back. He didn’t say he personally thought it would be beneath UNT. He was speaking of fan perception.2 points

Yes, smaller receivers do better in the NFL than small QBs. Quick hips and short field agility getting in and out of breaks are more useful to that position. There's also 5-7 WR on a given team, so a lot more spots to go around and a lot less risk in missing on one. For Darden, it will all be about numbers (either measurables or stats) and positional scarcity. Something about his performance will have to be AMAZING for it to happen. Whether that's beasting a Combine/Pro Day and or lighting up a scoreboard, he'll have to do something that makes coaches/GMs sit up and take notice. That's the thing with Mason. He is great. Has ALL the intangibles. But what did he do last year that was so amazing it made people HAVE to pay attention? The regression we suffered as a team did him in. It's part of why we fired an OC after one year. When I say "what did he do", understand I'm not blaming Mason. Our football program failed HIM in his senior year. If he threw closer to 50 TDs and/or had 70-ish completion percentage, we'd be having a different conversation.2 points

Most FBS recruits think they can get to the NFL. And, most people don't let facts get in their way when they want to believe something. It's how Vegas makes billion every year.2 points

Wren has been the AD at North Texas since 2016. It isn't like he doesn't know about our drought. The administration should be having a ongoing conversation with Littrell and his staff. They should be formulating a plan to get us a player drafted. We shouldn't be sitting around talking about this issue. No other program in this country is facing this problem. It isn't rocket science. Hit the Juco's and target a top notch talent that isn't a high priority at an OU or Texas level P5 (maybe a kicker), and get him into our program. I don't care if Littrell has to go to the kid's junior college and hand him the offer with the band and cheer leaders throwing confetti. We need a player selected next season. If they have a better plan that's fine, but we need a player drafted the next draft. The 2021 recruits were not even alive the last time North Texas had a player drafted. Let that sink in. I know our leadership has to be embarrassed by our 17 year drought.2 points

There’s nothing else the department could really do. They ran a freaking Heisman campaign for the guy, it just sucks that we were hot garbage last year. Also the global pandemic didn’t help at all. I still have trust that the Administration can get us back on the right track. In Wren we trust.2 points

I really liked Wilson’s chance a couple of years ago and was a little shocked that he didn’t get taken in the draft ( him getting injured probably costed him). But Novil and Darden, I like as much or even more than Wilson to be drafted next year (but who the hell knows). Hopefully they both go off and stay healthy.2 points

There is no excuse at any level of the program to go 17 years without a draft pick. That is straight up ineptitude at every level.2 points
-
Just out of curiosity, what does the admin do to make that happen? You think they're not trying to do that already?2 points
-
Lol. Come on though, the truth hurts. Its just reality. I love our school but we have ongoing problems in football. I think the direction of the program is improving still.2 points

G5 slot receivers are a dime a dozen, I'm not saying Darden can't make a roster but no team is going to draft him unless he can run under 4.4 and he's not that fast. Novil has size, decent production so far and plays a premium position he is our best shot in a while.1 point

Wtf is wren going to tell seth about football in this conversation? 😆 And your plan is to basically recruit better players? That's like watching football with a female and we score a touchdown on a 60 yard pass play and she says "why don't we run that play all the time?". It's not like we're not trying to do this already. Only thing in our complete control is coaching the players up. Thisbis a valid argument. Not sure I blame seth yet, but in another year or two for sure. We cant make the better recruits come here (unless we go old SWC in them with money), we cant make them get taller either and we cant make scouts or GMs like our players.1 point

Why not? If local instate guys that are highly recruited don't want to stay because its Little ole UNT, I am all for going out of state to get kids. They may see it as a destination parents can fly into DFW be at the game in 30 minutes. I don't mind it one bit so long as they continue to hammer the streets of Texas. Specifically Houston area.1 point
