  1. Just picked up my 2019 edition of DCTF. Thought I’d start a thread where folks could share their thoughts on this year’s offering. One of the greatest things I noticed was that while they list NORTH TEXAS AT SOUTHERN MISS as UNT’s Game of the Year, they list SMU’s Game of the Year as SMU VS. NORTH TEXAS. Greatness.

  3. Kim, My time at NTSU coincided with your Dad's and it was a privilege and a thrill to watch him play.

  4. Kimberly, during my time at North Texas(long ago), it was a pleasure and sure fun to watch your Father chunk the football. He was an amazing QB to watch. Thanks for sharing him with Mean Green fans!

  12. If I had my choice between the AAC and MWC. Of course I would take the AAC. But that wasn’t the topic of this thread. The two choices are choosing between MWC (higher profile) and CUSA (easy road trips)

  13. Not at all said to disparage either UNT nor Mason Fine. In fact, the quotes I saw were rather complimentary to both. They seemed to be saying...yep, we missed this one and the reason we did was...... Both programs are fully aware of the talented college QB Mason has become, and neither program has done anything to disparage UNT’s program in the last few years. Why would they? One of their own is the head coach who might just end up leading one of the two Oklahoma programs someday. Someday...like hopefully a very long time from now! Very long.

  14. Leading up to New Mexico? Surely you mean earlier than that, how many 3 TD leads did we blow down the stretch again? Not to mention getting our teeth kicked in two Decembers in a row. FAU, Troy, and USU all beat the daylights out of us. The head coaches of two of those programs are coaching in the big 12 now, the third has an alias and goes by the name Joey Freshwater.

  17. Did you see the article on him and the Manning Passing Academy? I bet he is even more prepared this year than any year prior, and that is saying A LOT! I have heard the guy is always in the film room getting ready for opponents.

  19. Rod was a great coach no doubt and deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. His problem, being from out of state, was recruiting. He inherited the great players he had and once they departed, he was unable to recruit in Texas at even an acceptable level. If he had more local ties, he would have had a better chance at competing in the recruiting game.

  21. Hi - Thank you all for the posts! It is all so interesting to me and my family. My dad was Steve Ramsey the QB you are speaking of. My son, John Stephen, is now 8 and loves football! He is also so interested in looking up his stats etc. on the internet. It has been really fun and interesting to see these posts and hear about my dad. I really miss him. He died in 1999. Keep the info coming! (ie I didn't know they were suppose to play in Texas Stadium, but it wasn't finished!!!) Thanks - Kim Ramsey Kavanagh

  23. Never heard of league of legends. But it sounds like you actually did get your feelings hurt? Don’t,.....it’s just our opinion. I’ve wasted more money on video games than I ever care to admit over the years and for everything I’ve seen it’s a waste of time and money. In fact...that’s exactly what it’s for...wasting time and money as a luxury to relax and pass the time,....similar to laying around and eating and drinking and sleeping all day. I wouldn’t recommend a person to lay around and eat and drink and sleep all day just like I wouldn’t recommend them spend untold hours laying around eating and playing video games. But that’s exactly what more and more kids are doing these days and it’s an extremely unhealthy lifestyle and I believe our university shouldn’t be encouraging that lifestyle. Rick

  27. Other than size, your comparing apples to oranges... Kyler Murray was at the helm of of a team that went undfeated for 3 straight years and won 3 state championships in the highest classification in the state with the arguably the best football being played. Mason Fine was at the helm of a small classification school in an ok football state and never won a state championship, nor is he anywhere near the pure athlete that murray is. and again, if Mason would have been 5-11 180-185 coming out of high school like you say murray was then he may have very well ended up at OU or OSU, Mason was 5-8/5-9 and 165 coming out of high school

  28. Or, when he wins 9 games again regardless of a bowl win/conference championship (which all of US desire badly). Seth wins 9 games 3 seasons in a row at UNT after what our program got turned into in previous years.....The guy will be carried away by piles of $$ to a much larger institution. No matter what every time he gets extended his buyout $$ goes up substantially meaning we wont be paying as much for our next HC because whatever school hires Seth away will be footing most of that bill.

  29. Well, maybe you are right and they and the Louisiana schools won't want to go east because of their ability to recruit in Texas. You may find out in 2023.[I say you only because I will be 80 then if still above ground. Sorta iffy]

  30. I really must say I could not disagree with you more. I think what the University has done is shown a commitment to athletics and something that is being noticed throughout the country. With Seth’s contract, the University is getting recognition throughout college football as a school that is committed to building an ongoing successful program. This commitment has been something North Texas has not had in the past and frankly has been used against us in recruiting. As we move forward if Seth should decide to leave I believe we will have a much higher level of interest in this position as potential coaches will understand the commitment from North Texas for success. I believe it also shows high school coaches that the University is committed to building a strong program - A place where they can encourage their players to continue their football careers. Are there risk, yes. But as you try to take it to the next level just like in many sports contracts you have to pay for potential. I believe what North Texas has shown is they are committed to the future.

  33. It also helps us pull in better coaches in the future via our budget. It’s easier to keep allocating $1.8M to salary each year than it is to change the budget to bring in a new coach at $1.8M or even $2M from $1.4M.

  34. “No upside”? The guy has us playing some of the best football we’ve played in decades... Baker & Smatresk give him a ~10% raise (which keeps him very happy here & thinking twice/pulling out of P5 offers), and there’s “no upside”?

  35. The news to me is Seth is still here and he is in the top 5 in G5 dollars .WOW! This not only shows our $$ commits to football, but will definitely attrack attention from other highly regarded coaches when the position opens up.

  37. I think being in the MWC paints UNT in the same picture as SMU and UH. Being in our current position clearly puts a peg or two under those programs as far as perception goes. To note, it also puts us squarely a peg above the current Texas CUSA members. And given the ebbs and flow of the MWC vs AAC, it could put UNT above all of the G5 Texas programs for recruiting purposes. And if you're not getting better, you're getting worse. And there is no valid or verified invitation or even an actual legitimate rumor of one. But that's on UNT's administration to get that rumor buzzing with real conversations with the MWC office. Reach out and test the waters and see if there is some valid mutual interest there.

If you wait about 10 minutes you can do it again. It will say Thanks for your vote if it is good. We appreciate GMG Nation for helping. He has gotta catch up so the more y’all can vote the best. Really appreciate it.
