I'm glad to see Rice picking it up a little. A better Rice makes for a better C-USA, which is in our best interests.5 points

DRC: Connection with fellow North Texas recruit helped the Mean Green pick up commitment from Clear Brook WR Loronzo Thompson https://www.dentonrc.com/sports/connection-with-fellow-recruit-helps-unt-land-elite-wide-receiver/article_9cf05864-7f9e-50c2-87a9-f73d29d82a82.html5 points

This is serious progress. I commend the league for finding an actual network on a TV that football fans know of and can show the best games of the week to showcase the conference and tell recruits that actual NFL front offices and scouts will have even better coverage of their games than Facebook or something call beIN.4 points

Larry Wise was a top local recruit that was redshirted. Mohamed the 6'7 transfer was injured and redshirted. Hold off evaluating that class. The Russian was a miss and so far so is J. Simmons but Larry Wise had other big school offers so let's see how he turns out. I agree the schedule was way to easy but we would all be complaining if he had pulled a UTA and played tons of big name schools all on the road. I'm not saying Grant is the greatest coach in school history, but he has done a great job of fixing the mess left by Benford. The next two years will determine how great a coach he is. By the way, getting an interview means schools think you are head coaching material or they wouldn't waste their time.4 points

Former FSU QB Deondre Francois transferring to FAU as a walk-on graduate transfer. Francois had several domestic, hmmm, "situations" while at FSU until he was finally dismissed under Wille Taggart in February, for another "situation". Lane...keepin' it classy. http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/26788056/ex-fsu-starting-qb-francois-transferring-fau3 points

Agreed. We really need Rice and UTEP to up their games to validate whatever we do in conference, which it looks like they slowly but surely are.3 points

Getting an interview and being hired are 2 different things. How are we heading in the right direction with a roster of mostly juniors. (And no big men brought in) He got 0 production from a 6 man signing class just last year. These guys are now at the end of the bench. We went from tied for 7th in conference to tied for 11th (I believe). I hope he does well for the kids. UTA, TCU and SMU continue to land better local transfers. Take away many of the scheduled winnable games and were looking at a losing program. When this staff start reeling in top local talent, others will follow.3 points

Damn, I shouldn’t have bought $40k worth of tattoos and Taco Bell beefy 5 layer burritos... But really, you seem to talk a lot of shit about the very students that are paying the fees that subsidize the sports programs you like to watch. I don’t see you complaining about that. Typical boomer bullshit talking points. There’s so much to unpack here but the bottom line is that the costs of college have outpaced housing, consumer goods, healthcare, and wage growth. States have cut funding, shifting the costs to students. Schools are increasing overhead by investing in administration and luxury capital projects (see Apogee Stadium, et al). The entire system is broken, and no amount of cutting back on Taco Bell and Netflix is going to fix it.3 points

I didn't mind that. He seemed engaged with his group and was able to captivate them. Didn't like the shorts and what not, but I am sure his band loved it. Never met the guy, but from afar he seems like a genuine good dude.3 points

This will be Cas's best team. As a G5 where are you going to get the best talent? In HS it will be undersized guards that don't fit the P5 mesurables. I believe we are going to have to stick to Juco's and transfers that want to play, especially recruiting size. How far would Tech had gone without them? Very excited to see what Cas can do with a more balanced team.2 points

I too question he ability to recruit. Benford was at many Guyer games during his tenure talking with coaches and players. In two years Mcasland hasn’t been once. I understand we aren’t going to land their big guys, but taking the time to visit/invest is important. Hopefully Grant picks up on this because his ability to recruit has been laughable. 🤷🏼♂️ Side Note: I bleed green and will support Grant just like I did Tony, but UNT basketball really needs a pick me up. I question this season/recruiting group, but I hope they prove me wrong.2 points

I really don't care who the coach is. The overall recruiting has been bad or decent. To your question, this coach is grossly overrated. Mainly because he is often compared to Tony Benford; where you and I would look better. The 20 win season(s) is over-blown due to the cream puff schedule put together to ensure 20 win seasons. (and playing 5 extra games in a tournament most other "left over" programs turn down). No one is a bigger fan of the basketball program than I am and have been. I just refuse to be hoodwinked by the likes of Brett Brett "Associated Press 2018 Star Sportswriter of the Year Award-winner" Vito and others. When it takes nearly 40 games to win 20, the bar has been lowered from previous era's. We are a below .500 program, within a mediocre conference, that falters annually down the stretch when it matters the most. Is it a lack of coaching, talent or both? Certainly, nothing to get excited about from my perspective. For a coach with roots in the metroplex, I don't understand why we have to bring in guys from Russia and other areas of the globe/states when the campus is within 50 miles of the top talent in the country. This guy is over paid and thus, we are stuck with him.2 points

Just drove past Apogee (Sunday 1:00p) and we saw 10-12 cars in the black lot and 2 or 3 in the white lot all wrapped up as if for Christmas gifts. Do the big donors get cars now ? Is this the ultimate in parking lot ding protection ? Are these cars in the witness protection program or are they just being stored so the recruits at Southern Meth will be surprised ?1 point

Impressive! An anonymous source tells me that the donations cover 70% of the cost; the remainder will be handled with a revenue bond issue. The debt service will be covered by a so-called "Date-rape Tax" on Baylor students, with the amount doubled on football players.1 point

I’m just hanging around waiting for you to realize that you are now one of those “old white men” you want to disparage on a regular basis. Just ask a current college freshman. 😂😂. All relative my friend...all relative. No more freebies for you...and you need to do penance since you helped cause every problem the world now deals with on a daily basis. Welcome! 😂😂.1 point
