  1. A lot of good work done by him, but time to bring in a HS relations guy who can really take us to the next level with his connections. IMO make this position 90-95K a year and watch the HS coaches flock to it. Hell I'd do it and drive all over the state and into LA etc for 65 a year.

  2. Exciting last half of the game as the Saints thwart off a Panther comeback. Craig got a lot of camera time and mentions in the first half. I never heard them mention that he went to North Texas, but they did say this was his first time in the playoffs and that he never even went to a bowl game in college.

  3. You should put in an application. An alum that is also a young relatable coach seems like the direction we should go.

  4. Good luck to him in his retirement.... for UNT this is an opportunity to move onward and upwards

  5. Absoutely. Someone who made the commitment to graduate from NT and has coaching experience is a great candidate to sell the program to the coaches in Texas. I've always believed that the best people to sell NT and/or work in it's best interest are NT graduates.

That Rice game almost finished me as a UNT fan. A few of us were standing around outside the stadium after that game and a Rice fan goodheartedly came over and said “I want you to know that team of yours never quit out there. They will get better.” We all looked at each and said “dear God please tell me they quit”. It was the worst football game I was ever witness to. Rice easily could have scored a 100 on us. Unlike the Portland game we knew we had Dodge for at least a couple more years and things were not going to get better with the promise of a new hire.

  7. Commitment from both parties? Coaches sign players on NSD then dash the next day, just look at our staff from last year.. We signed a bunch of guys on NSD, the next day we had 3/4 coaches leave.. Shit happens and the kid had something come up. Let’s move on like adults and not worry about the guy looking out for HIS well being and his families future. Seeing grew men tossing up negativity on his decommitment from UNT just makes us look even worse.

  9. No one can make anyone be a fan, but I really don't understand your view. If you were a fan in the past, why let a questionable decision to allow Benford an extra year deprive you of seeing the best NT basketball in decades. No the team isn't yet as good as some of Jones' best, but McCasland is a far superior coach than Jones. You are also not likely to see any team consistently play any harder. If you like NT and college basketball, I don't understand a boycott against a program that is currently doing almost everything right. I assume you are not a football fan because you had to quit when Dodge was hired or McCarney given an contract extension. Both of those bad decisions dwarf how many years Benford was allowed. Even worse was the hiring of RV and allowing him a 15 year career with NT.

  10. Why commit if you're just going to change your mind less than a week later?

  11. Not aimed at anyone in particular and I am as guilty as anyone. Anyone that uses "light years" to denote differences even in exaggerated manner really is not thinking about the vastness that implies. The difference in an education between Vanderbilt and NT would not even be a blip on the scale of light years. As far as on the football field, there are a lot of CUSA teams that can compete with Vanderbilt. I .

  12. I was corrected that alumn doesn't mean graduate but only that you attended. So he is an alum so even if he doesn't (which is a shame) I do. He wasn't built to be a DI quarterback but that wasn't his fault. He a tough SOB who should have been allowed to stay at receiver.

  13. you should check mens team out, finally play some defense and play hard. shooters need to be more consistent but team is fun to watch finally.

  14. Basically, no I'm not. Retaining Benford for five full years was the straw that broke this fan's back. No school that takes it's athletics seriously would do something that foolish. When combined with the decades of evidence that shows UNT (as a whole-alumni, AD, administration) doesn't care as much as I did about North Texas winning it was time for me to step away and funnel my time and money into other pursuits. I still drop by GMG from time to time, but I have no desire or plans to attend games anymore.

  15. I don't think Ejiya is a MLB either, and we don't know what we have in Fulp yet... hence hitting the JUCOs for LB help. I know Garner gets a lot of heat on here, and he could certainly work on shedding blocks, but I think he'll do much better lining up behind English & Young instead of just Young.

  16. Total speculation, but I like to think the kid wants to come to Denton but his immediate circle of family and friends wants him at Vandy.

  18. Why this of relevance on gmg.com? He presided over a dismal period in Mean Green Football. He was a bad hire by a mediocre Athletic Director trying to be frugal. We got exactly what they paid for. Expecting him out do Dickey just because the new stadium was finalized was just stupid. Let’s stop looking back please except when it is time to replace our head coach. We want to learn from past mistakes.

  19. Dodge wins while at UNT and those teams' records: 2007 -- Western Kentucky, transitional FBS -- 7-5 (All 7 wins over FCS opponents) Louisiana Monroe -- 6-6 (This team actually beat Alabama who had an uncharacteristic 7-6 year) 2008 -- Western Kentucky, transitional FBS -- 2-10 (2 wins over FCS Eastern Kentucky and Murray St.) 2009 -- Ball St. -- 2-10 (Wins over 0-12 Eastern Michigan and 5-7 Western Michigan) Western Kentucky -- 0-12 2010 -- Florida Atlantic -- 4-8 Cumulative opponents' record, including FCS games 21-39. Six wins in 3 1/2 seasons. Three of those wins were over a hapless Western Kentucky team. Best win appears to be against the juggernaut of Louisiana Monroe. It's difficult for me to determine if 2008 under Dodge or 2015 under Mac was the worst season I've seen. Mac at least fooled me into thinking that he knew what he was doing there in 2013. Dodge never offered any such comfort, fleeting as it may have been. As to high school, discounting the endless resources provided at Southlake and Westlake: Cameron Yoe -- 8-12 Carrollton Newman Smith -- 9-11 Keller Fossil Ridge 7-12 Marble Falls 8-12 So best assessment I can objectively give after looking through the records is that if you give him the best of the best of everything, he can coach a Greg McElroy, but if you put him in a position to build from the ground up, well, he ain't no Jim Leavitt.

  20. This Although, I choose to think that most North Texas fans react to this news with by overcoming the appropriate level of disappointment with perspective and understanding. Those reacting otherwise is likely a vocal minority. Until a player formally signs, this should be all but expected. I only hope the change of heart is a result of receiving counsel from trustworthy, well-intentioned people around him.

  22. Don’t be bitter.. kid owes us nothing.. he is doing what is best for him and his family... No matter what, where else he goes.. they will be the fall back/2nd option. Vandy is a great education and in the SEC. can’t doubt or be disappointed because many people here 3 days ago thought we had 0 Chance.

  23. I did and while Todd Dodge’s teams were frustrating to watch at times, the games were much more fun to watch than 05-06 Dickey. 05-06 were the hardest to watch other than 2015. 2015 was just disgusting. Wow, those downvoting are saying that Dodge’s team was less entertaining than 05-06 Dickey? I’m guessing you didn’t see that 7OT pillow fight disaster of a game against winless FIU.

  24. I believe that, if he is at a location that has vastly better resources than the competition, he is capable of great success. But, if he has to actually game manage, outscheme or out-think, he crashes and burns. So, yeah, UT may suit him fine.

  25. So there’s a 3rd column next to W & L titled “losses that weren’t so bad” ?

  26. I know y’all love to hate on Dodge. Out of boredom the other day I went and looked at the seasons. Many, many 7 point or less losses. Lots of bad luck for TD. He was a good recruiter for sure. He knows QBs and offense. Let your hatred of the guy go.

  27. Dodge was a "Hail Mary" hire that no other fb program would have likely picked as a head coach. Only a completely incompetent AD would have added to that decision with allowing him to bring basically a high school staff with him. That being said, Dodge was a pretty good offensive coach and recruiter by NT standards at that point. He also demonstrated he was a man of high character and I never heard him complain or blame anybody but himself. If he wants to try the college game, I can't think of a better situation than the above rumor. He wouldn't have to move and if it doesn't work out, he can always find another high school gig.

  29. When the board ops folks had to add functionality to automatically detect/change the word 'quit' to something else (can't remember what that other word was now) in every post for a while do to your quitting on the team, your name shouldn't get to be mentioned in comparisons like this....IMPO. Now the fact that both technically transferred out of here is an interesting problem here. Were they both "quitters"? We give Riley a pass and consider him an alum since most gave him an out after his Dad was fired.

  30. Not sure why but this forum seems to be hypersensitive to what we search or look at... I am now getting an ad for "Gamiss" or sweatshirts ( mostly with a Lion picture) constantly after I looked at one a couple of days ago.

  33. Children shouldn't be allowed to "commit" to anything. Most would not be allowed to sign a contract such as a lease without a parental co-sign. And so I wonder why we waste paper and time on a "commitment" that is anything but. Now, can anyone think of an NT "commit" that "decommitted" and ended up back at North Texas ? We should use terms like "going steady" and give out "promise rings." GO MEAN GREEN

  35. If it's the way it used to be, home team owns broadcast rights. If you are in a conference, the conference usually has first right to those rights (conference and non conference). So if it still works the same, if ESPN wants the game , they alert CUSA and CUSA tells the school. ESPN sets the game time once they slot it in their schedule.

  36. Players are drafted into the NFL because of their talent not were they when to school at. The fact that NT hasn't had anyone drafted in ages is because they have not recruited that kind of talent. Faulty thinking to believe you will be drafted at school A and not school B because scouts are to lazy to scout all schools.

  37. It's not different. I can't say too much, because of the civil lawsuit, but an officer I know was in a shooting. The individual lived. There was no doubt it was justified. It still went to the grand jury. Just because the news doesn't broadcast it, doesn't mean it didn't go to the grand jury. Also, I've seen the dashcam and body cam footage. Even knowing the outcome, it was still shocking how quickly it all unfolded.

  38. More like WTF to the UNT fans that have sent replies some of the most disappointing replies back.. (FYI for people who haven’t looked of the 10 replies to the tweet, 5 or 6 are from bitter/upset UNT fans..) Not saying he may (or may have) flip/flipped back to us, but if we had any chance it’s likely gone now..

  40. Totally agree. No where does it say anything about the NFL, and it’s not like Vandy, ULL or Toledo are pumping out NFL talent. If he goes to Vandy, you can’t hate because of the quality of the education.. Also, they are still the back up/fall back school because he committed here first. You got no idea what the situation is.. it’s easy to post here being critical of a young man who has way more on his plate.. yes it sucks we lost a really good recruit. He is looking out for himself and his family, he doesn’t owe any of us nor UNT anything..

  41. And Thompson has been told he will compete and with his size I would assume likely get a LB spot over Fulp well this didn’t age well lol

  42. I don't believe the premise of this thread is correct. In the midst of this run of success, their 2018 recruiting class has 17 commits, 2 of which are 3-star recruits. Only a few of their commits have FBS offers. Most of them are from the frozen north--Minnesota in particular--so they're used to cold weather. Only one of their commits is from anywhere south of Illinois. So it's not like they're making a living by stealing away recruits coveted by FBS schools. They've been good at identifying solid underrecruited talent, particularly from their own geographic region, and coaching it up.

  43. If you want to drive yourself insane, imagine the Big Eight coming in and grabbing us because the SWC as full already at 9 teams with UH and we would have been their 9th team. That's playing football in the late 70s thru the mid 90s against OU, Nebraska, Colorado, and Oklahoma State, many of them at their high points, as the only Texas team that gets to play them as a conference mate (think A&M today against the SEC). Then, imagine the Super Pit hosting conference games against Kansas, Kansas State, Missouri, Iowa State, as well as those incredible Oklahoma teams under Billy Tubbs. Then think of how amazingly short-sighted it was to go SWC or bust and how Hayden Fry leaving us literally led to the ultimate give up of I-aa ball just 4 short seasons later.

  44. Just six months ago, after Michael Diebold lost his left hand and part of his arm in a fireworks accident, he became a local celebrity. The police chief of the small Pennsylvania town of Leechburg drew sympathy from community members, some of whom raised funds to help with Diebold’s medical expenses. A church hosted a fundraising dinner, while others sold T-shirts that said: “We Stand By Ours. #teamdiebold1565.” Just 18 days after the accident, Diebold got married and about 200 people attended the ceremony. He smiled at his bride, who was dressed in an off-the-shoulder white dress, as she placed a wedding band on his right ring finger, and attendees raised their phones to catch the moment. Diebold made the news again recently. This time, he wasn’t smiling — and it’s unlikely that anyone in the town of 2,000 was. 45. I think this team would have been better if they could have held on to Benford's recruits Combs, Frazier and Reese. I never would have thought that NT would be starting 4 Benford recruits. Season is young, but it doesn't look like McCasland recruited the talent that this team needs.
