Conference USA Teams Recognized by the NCAA

Thirteen full-time Conference USA members fielded teams that received the NCAA Public Recognition Award, based on the NCAA Division I 2012-13 Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores released today. Affiliate members Colorado College for women's soccer and Tennessee for women's rowing were also recognized.

Rice led the pack with five teams ranked among the top 10 percentile of all teams for all sports nationally. The Owls men's golf and women's tennis teams were honored and also won conference championships this season. Both were repeat winners, along with the Rice women's basketball, women's cross country and women's soccer teams.

"The academic success of our student-athletes is a major priority and we are proud of the academic performance of these teams," C-USA Commissioner Britton Banowsky said. "Our expectation is the academic progress rates will continue to rise."

The APR provides a real-time look at a team's academic success each semester or quarter by tracking the academic progress of each student-athlete. The APR includes eligibility, retention, and graduation in the calculation and provides a clear picture of the academic culture in each sport. Below is a complete listing of Conference USA teams receiving the Public Recognition Award. For more information on the Academic Progress Rate, please log on to www.ncaa.org.

So wouldn't it be much more relevant to learn which 2012-13 Sun Belt teams were so honored?

Here's what I found, anyway:

Men's Golf Middle Tennessee State University

Women's Basketball Florida International University

Women's Golf Florida Atlantic University

Women's Golf Middle Tennessee State University

Women's Golf University of Louisiana at Monroe

Women's Volleyball Western Kentucky University

if its old, then why is middle tennessee on there?

because C-USA claimed all the teams that are current members who won the award - which is why MUTS, F_U are on both lists

Harry,

you're right. It's a brand new article. The NCAA typically announces these a year after the fact

and MeanGreen 93-98 was right to look up Sun Belt from last year to see if we were honored.

we weren't - and now we can all see that the C-USA list had already listed all the current members who received the honor on their list
