SMU: The school has announced a three-year extension for Jones, through the 2017 season. "Coach Jones and his staff have successfully engineered our football program's journey from relative obscurity to competitive relevance," SMU AD Rick Hart said.

To me, it doesn't make sense for either side. June Jones is a good coach, but he left a bad taste in everyone's mouth and lost a lot of support when he was ready to jump to Arizona State. I believe June Jones can win somewhere else, but his best years at SMU are probably behind him. And with the salary that SMU offers, they could just about have their pick of any coordinator in all of FBS and out of several head coaches.

They're stuck -- if they fire him it will cost a lot of money (he makes 2 million a year!!) and hurt their recruiting. If they keep him it is demoralizing to the fan base. The whole Arizona State caper is like a cancer for their program.

They are having some success there. This season was a disappointment for them, but they were terrible before he got there. How does Gilbert end up there without June Jones?

If they were paying him double Mac's salary maybe but more than triple??
